To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

😂😂 I do this and, prepare yourself, I sometimes let my 3 yo play on her kindle whilst she’s sitting in there. Zero fucks given.

Think of the men that don’t wash their hands after having a wee and all their willy germs on the Handel bars.

Blackforestdonuts · 12/06/2018 19:02

I put a shopping bag down and they sit on that. Keep them contained! Anything is better than them disappearing off around the aisles.

NoSleepforAYear · 12/06/2018 19:03

Drives me batty, not because of the hygeine issues, but from a H&S perspective. My local supermarkets have a vast array of seat combinations, singles, twins, baby seats combined with toddler seats etc and a couple of trollies adapted for special needs children. Yet I still see more children in the actual basket part of the trolley. Every trolley bay at my local Tesco has a sign reminding people not to put children in the trollies, I can only assume that the level of education of those doing so matches their common sense. Yes, I'm a judgy b1tch.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 12/06/2018 19:09

Bonkers thing to actually give a shit about! How does other people's shopping actually cause you a problem?

Roversandrhodes · 12/06/2018 19:32

I’ve got bigger problems

Still alone with this one.I have 2.5 year old twins and I would rather have them in the trolley instead of bumping into people or picking up and dropping on the floor, whatever they fancy. With some people you can't win.

DottyBlue2 · 12/06/2018 19:56

I put the OP in the supermarket trolley today and wheeled her round while I did the shopping. But then I got told to leave the premises. It wasn't even a Mumsnet supermarket Angry

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/06/2018 20:02

Aww Handel bars. I want a musical trolly too. can you get them with other composers or with different styles of music? :o

Ivygarden · 12/06/2018 20:10

This has literally never occurred to me. I’ve clearlt been eating contaminated food all this time; it’s any wonder I’m still alive Confused

Shopkinsdoll · 12/06/2018 20:16

My kids always go into the trolley. I have never thought about dog shit being
In it. But I always check my kids feet for it, so much I am obsessive about shit on their shoes. It won’t stop me putting my kids in the trolley though.

Ginburee · 12/06/2018 20:45

You know if your child has stood in shit and would act appropriately.

Sod That, my 3 year old is normal for his size but we struggle to get him in a seat. While he can if he is in a bad mood then yes damnit I sit him on the trolley.

I then get him to choose a piece of free fruit and then feed him snacks lime chocolate and Haribo all the way around the supermarket. It is much kinder for all other patrons of the supermarket I promise you.
Personally I scan my own shopping as it is so much less of a ball ache, the shopping goes I to my bags and doesn't touch the trolley.

Carouselfish · 12/06/2018 20:48

My 3yr old sits in the proper seat until the checkout, when she goes in the main basket to help unload and pack. Never, ever considered the reasons you've stated not to, only thought the trip from the checkout to the door I had to be extra careful not to let her tumble out.

Leontine · 12/06/2018 21:19

I've never even thought about it to be honest - and I'm very particular about things like that usually. But then again, on the rare occasion I actually go to the supermarket to do my shopping I never have enough shopping to warrant getting a big trolley, so that's probably why it's never occurred to me.

Sissyjd · 12/06/2018 21:24

Def BU...We did it as kids & no harm came to any of us re poo contaminated shopping or warehouse Dave scratching his bollocks before loading up a pallet of baked beans. Lol

cholka · 12/06/2018 21:29

Agreed, the only solution is to have mandatory showers at supermarket entrances then all the shoppers wear disposable boiler suits and foot covers. And children should be shrink-wrapped for the duration.

Icanttakemuchmore · 12/06/2018 21:42

All those people in the supermarket searching through all that unpacked fruit and veg and squeezing it to find the best, who probably haven't washed their hands after having a dump, or touching the handle of the trolley after the person who used it before hadn't washed their hands, and then handling all sorts of produce that you then pick up and put in your trolley... And you're worrying about a little kiddies shoes. There's more germs on the handle of that trolley than on the bottom of those shoes.

winniestone37 · 12/06/2018 21:53

Bonkers. It's not a big deal.

Lindsxxx · 12/06/2018 22:01

You do know that for the most part trolleys are housed outside. Shat on by birds. Probably rats and mice too.

I'd be more concerned about Billy scratching his bum before sprinkling the toppings on the pizzas!!!

FontSnob · 12/06/2018 23:54

Your assumption is incorrect NoSleep.

Dont like dog shit on my beans either.
But you are alone.

Take care.

User121 · 12/06/2018 23:59

My local supermarket removed the self scanning handset holders for hygiene reasons because they were found to be dirty and near food. When I asked if they had banned children from sitting in trolleys, given their feet are more likely to be dirtier than hands and also nearer to food, they said no. WTAF?

I don't particularly like seeing children sitting in trolleys, but ultimately food is packaged (even if overly so).
