To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

ERM....do it all the time. If tested I would assume trolly handles would send me in a bacterial hell. However, Contained children in supermarket cage like transport.....utter bliss

Northernlight22 · 12/06/2018 17:43

My little boy is 2 in September - he climbs out of the seat at the front, sometimes the only way to contain him is to sit him in the trolley. I never thought I’d be a parent who did this, but seriously, how on earth else would I get round aldi??

Annette69 · 12/06/2018 17:44

How odd you are.

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 12/06/2018 17:47

I can’t imagjne having so little in my life that something like this would bother me.
In case you hadn’t noticed the trolleys are left outside where god knows what happen to them. If you pack your shopping properly there’s no need for your kids shoes to touch the food.

fruitbrewhaha · 12/06/2018 17:51

There was something on the tv recently about the amount of bacteria on trolleys. It was outrageous.

I'd be more concerned the child would pick something up from the trolley.

Jaxhog · 12/06/2018 17:52

Probably no worse than all those dirty customer hands squeezing the fresh veg and bread etc.

Flisspaps · 12/06/2018 17:53

YANBU.

TLou88 · 12/06/2018 17:55

Haha what a strange thing to be concerned by.

FeckBuggerAndArse · 12/06/2018 17:56

It’s not just disgusting (from the point of view of dirt off their shoes going on to the food in the trolley) it’s also dangerous. I work in radiology and have seen several children with broken bones from trolleys tipping over because the child was in the main part of the trolley and not in the seat part.

linzm1985 · 12/06/2018 17:57

You're not alone OP.

I don't even take my children in the supermarket. I leave them in the car - they're filthy things as it is without letting them contaminate other people's food. There's also the issue they might pick up more germs from other people whilst inside the shop, so it's safer for them to be out of the way.
Personally I wear disposable gloves when using a trolley too. God only knows who's touched them! I burn the gloves when I get home to be safe.

FontSnob · 12/06/2018 17:59

Lol at all the mentions of trolleys Livingston outdoors. Enjoying the idea of herds of wild trolleys living in the wild and going on adventures of a night time.

Mumto2two · 12/06/2018 18:00

One of the oddest gripes I’ve seen yet. Seriously??? Some people are just irked by the air we breathe....Hmm

DorisDances · 12/06/2018 18:10

Always been one of my pet hates but noticed recently how few traditional trollies that seat youngsters there are.

marymoosmum · 12/06/2018 18:18

Not RTFT but your bonkers

Katherine2626 · 12/06/2018 18:31

Only a couple of days ago I saw a woman with two kids in her trolley - one was sitting down and the other, about three at most, was trying to jump out, standing on the edge of the trolley, whenever she turned her back. Several people told her and she just caught him in time, twice. He might have been better off in a trolley seat with a harness - I'm all for a bit of freedom but he was on the edge of having a fractured skull.

TigerTooth · 12/06/2018 18:35

I do it every time. 2yr old in the seat and 3 yr old in the trolley. The world is not sterile op - get a grip.
Yes, you are very unreasonable (and grumpy)

toomuchtooold · 12/06/2018 18:40

Is this a good time to share that when DD2 was a toddler, she always wanted to run off and lick all the vegetables. And I didn't always manage to stop her Grin

GlomOfNit · 12/06/2018 18:47

OP is not alone - I've been on MN about ten years now and this must be the 901,567th time I've seen this thread. (approx)

though she may be overthinking the contamination thing. I think using trolleys as ambulatory cages for children isn't great, though frankly if I thought my autistic seven year old would stay in one I'd give it a go.

follywalk · 12/06/2018 18:51

I saw a young boy, who was holding on and helping to push, ram a trolley into someone’s shins today. A pure accident. My first thought was I wonder if the rammed person would have agreed with that child being in the trolley?!

Lethaldrizzle · 12/06/2018 18:53

Ooh I love a licked legume

bondgirl76 · 12/06/2018 18:54

Yep,you have OCD...

follywalk · 12/06/2018 18:55

toomuchtooold It all helps towards her five a day!

bondgirl76 · 12/06/2018 18:56

Spot on! Children are disgusting,,should not be let out,

SuzieCath · 12/06/2018 18:57

Slightly OTT. Most food is packaged and I personally wash all necessary foods before cooking/eating. I would rather my small child sit in the trolley than run around the supermarket!

soundsystem · 12/06/2018 18:57

Um. I don’t think it’s partIcularly safe - so wouldn’t allow mine to do it for that reason - but I wouldn’t worry about “contaminating my shopping” Hmm
