I know her tweets were abhorrent but I was loving the reboot. I also feel for all the cast and crew who have now lost their jobs.

Ffs Roseanne, what were you thinking?

I've seen a bit of the new series and was quite shocked by some of it. There was one scene where she grabs her teenage granddaughter and runs her head under the kitchen tap as a punishment. To a soundtrack of cheers and laughter. I certainly felt uncomfortable about a lot of the show.

mostdays · 30/05/2018 11:33

I'm glad it's been cancelled. I'm glad there are consequences for hate.

RoseWhiteTips · 30/05/2018 11:47

It’s about time she was shut up. Odious person.

Annabel7 · 30/05/2018 12:51

20 odd years ago when I was travelling in the States, I went to see her show being filmed. I used to love that show but she was foul - really arrogant and rude and patronising to fans who had gone to watch the show. I haven't been able to bear her since then. I'm really glad her show's been cancelled because of her disgusting racist comments.

AlisonCHaynes · 30/05/2018 13:02

I read her so-called apology, apparently it wasn't her fault because her sleeping pills made her do it. Didn't she read the leaflet ' warning -side effects may include becoming a vile racist cunt'?

kmc1111 · 30/05/2018 13:05

The show was so awful anyway. The Muslim neighbours episode was hideous.

Roseanne acts like a vile bigot, then decides maybe the neighbours aren’t active terrorists only when they go way out of their way to be kind to her. Then at the end when she’s ‘accepted’ the Muslim family, she says that maybe she won’t have to call the authorities on them now. So the message of the episode was to show love and kindness to your neighbourhood racist, because if you work really hard to prove yourself to them, they might just about tolerate your existence.

LighthouseSouth · 30/05/2018 13:10

Woah
That's the famous muslim episode I heard about?!

CremeBrulee · 30/05/2018 13:10

I'm thinking that an After Roseanne show would be a great idea - it could focus on the impact and damage done by a narcissistic racist bully to her kids and grandkids and how they overcome the legacy with tolerance and respect.

TanteRose · 30/05/2018 13:11

Did you see this? Wink
I'd watch this for sure!

To be Gutted that Roseanne has been cancelled
SalemBlackCat · 30/05/2018 14:11

Caitlyn Jenner??

TanteRose · 30/05/2018 14:46

Salem Confused you mean that pic?

No, it's Laurie Metcalf who plays Jackie in the series

DN4GeekinDerby · 30/05/2018 14:54

I haven't seen the show yet, the reviews I've seen are quite mixed even among those that are Roseanne's political opposites. I remember watching it as a kid but haven't been curious enough to seek it out the reboot. I do feel for the cast and even more for the crew as well as the fans who were hoping to see where it was heading. It would be nice to have more grounded representation of a wide range of political views, not sure if this was it as I said I haven't seen it but I think the premise of a family with mixed political views hashing out living with each other does appeal. It's many people's reality.

I've no idea what she was thinking though I don't think any of this is going to change her mind on anything. She's been like this for a while.
I think ABC likely did the best thing though it's probable that there were other issues behind the scenes as well that this was more like a last straw than the entire reason. I really don't think it's entirely for moral reasons or that the vast majority of media has a moral leg to stand on to be telling anyone anything about ethics with any authority. as they've been trying more and more to do and keep ignoring that it's backfiring on them - having rich coaster in a well-known corrupt industry tell people what's right and wrong is just asking for people to tell them where to stick it. I mean, this is the industry where they're still celebrating and welcoming and hiring violent abusive people, who still give out awards and excuse admitted child rapists, and it's an open secret how much control certain creatives have and how they abuse that power. Casting Couch 'jokes' have literally been around for over a century in Hollywood so they've got a long way to go if they want to make it appear that they actually care at all about the morals of the situation.

Really, the only message I've gotten here is that horrible right-wing conspiracy theorist old women with little power might get punished, eventually, but there is no evidence that this part of any move to really challenge behaviour or language or the status quo in media. I kinda think if she was a leftist who was going on about Bush and was saying trash about his people that far fewer in the media or in general would have cared, but then I voted Hilary while fully appreciating why some people would never vote for her after all the horrible things she's said and done and how entrenched in the establishment she is. I'm not one of those who thinks only wrong-headed, vile wrong-thinkers voted Trump; I loathe him but he pretty much followed in Reagan's footsteps and until Democrats can deal with the desire that happens when shit hits the fan for anti-establishment appearing people who act like autocrats and end up breaking a lot without demonizing people for that, that cycle is going to keep happening.

MiggeldyHiggins · 30/05/2018 15:01

rather than the media pretending every right thinking person in the country voted Hilary

thats not a pretence.

Ohmydayslove · 30/05/2018 15:39

Lots of the cast in Big Bang anyway

MiggeldyHiggins · 30/05/2018 16:32

2 is hardly lots. And one of them a guest star rarely in it,

Verdad · 30/05/2018 17:08

Isn't it 3? I thought I read that David is back in it too - Leonard from Big Bang.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 30/05/2018 17:34

Its 2

With a third as guest star

AJPTaylor · 30/05/2018 17:40

When did she take lessons from Hopkins?
Worlds gone mad.

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 17:51

How is calling someone a loudmouth piece of shit misogynistic? You do realise that feminism is not about giving women the right to do and say whatever the fuck they like and everyone having to blindly support them? It's really not. She is a loudmouth piece of shit.

I didn’t really explain what I meant. It was late and I’d had a few jars (sounding like Roseanne and her Ambien excuse now).

I totally agree that feminism isn’t about giving women the right to say and do whatever they want, ffs. I just didn’t give my comment context. He’d said this way before this outburst of hers and it just seemed such an aggressive way to refer to her. As I said before I’d not really been very aware of her views as I really don’t pay any attention to social media whatsoever and just knew her from the show.

Anyway, it’s possible that @SalemBlackCat is correct and my dad meant Rosie O’Donnell.

Who knows.

Re the Big Bang I was really looking forward to seeing more of David (Leonard) in the new series too. Ah well.

MiggeldyHiggins · 30/05/2018 18:09

Its 2With a third as guest star

No, its 2 and one of them is a guest star. Darlene hasn't been in the Bign Bang for years and won't be again. Jackie is a guest star, rarely in it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 30/05/2018 18:27

miggeldy

Sorry i was getting my actresses confused

And i wasnt talking about darlene or jackie Grin (im still wrong though)

Caribou58 · 30/05/2018 18:45

She’s always been a gob shite and it’s finally caught up with her

This.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 30/05/2018 18:51

I'm really pleased that ABC have taken such a firm stance and so quickly. When the leader of the most powerful country in the world is openly racist there's a real danger that extremist views become normalised. By cancelling the show they have sent a clear message that there is nothing normal or acceptable about racism. Her apology was so insincere it added insult to injury. The fact that she pathetically tried to blame her use of sleeping pills for her racist statements says it all. She's not sorry for what she said, she's sorry that she's been held to account for it and it has hurt her career.

beguilingeyes · 30/05/2018 18:52

This has made me very sad. I haven't seen the reboot, and it seems likely that I never shall, but the original, in it's pomp was a wonderful thing. It was groundbreaking. You just didn't see people who looked that normal on US TV. They were poor, their house was grubby. The characters, Jackie, Darlene and David, the gay guy who ran the coffee shop, Roseanne and Dan (god, I so loved John Goodman) were such wonderful characters.

I know she was loud mouthed and stroppy, but who knew she was the female Ted Nugent. :(
