To be Gutted that Roseanne has been cancelled

I know her tweets were abhorrent but I was loving the reboot. I also feel for all the cast and crew who have now lost their jobs.

Ffs Roseanne, what were you thinking?

OP posts:
FurryDice · 30/05/2018 02:04

She was due to have a knee op and was worried about it. They could always use that as a springboard

TheStoic · 30/05/2018 02:08

I think there is room for debate when one character says appalling things and the entire show they’re in, which is NOT representative of those views, gets cancelled thus affecting so many others.

Well they can hardly just kick her off the show, can they? She should have thought of her colleagues BEFORE she opened her racist mouth.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/05/2018 02:16

I am heartsick for her fellow cast mates and production team. Because of her idiocy they are all out of a job. She deserves whatever is coming to her, but they are innocent in all of this.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/05/2018 02:18

But what you're saying Furry is that we should 'put up' with abhorrent behaviour/statements because we like what the person 'does' (i.e. athlete, actor, musician). IMO this is wrong-thinking and a slippery slope. If we ignore someone's behaviour but continue to allow them to perform we send the message that we should 'tolerate' their unacceptable views, because they make us laugh/score goals/whatever. What message does that send, not only to them but to our children and to the people in charge of our countries?

If tweeted " is a stupid cow" would that be OK because he's made some great movies? Shouldn't he be called to account for his statements? Shouldn't everyone be called to account for unacceptable hateful views?

I don't know if you're in the US, but there are such increasing incidents here where people are now openly calling other people horrible names based on perceived ethnicity, gender, or religion that something really has to be done. And the only thing to do is to start calling them out on their behaviour.

Back in 'olden times' people were subjected to the 'cut direct' and being 'sent to Coventry' when they stepped outside of what was deemed acceptable socially. We need to start bringing some form of that back.

Er, no I’m not. That’s what you’re projecting onto what I’m saying.

Furrydice Roseanne has been coming out with shit like this for years, therefore everyone knew before they signed their contracts. The show was under her brand and the network has every right to not want to be associated with it.

Birdsgottafly · 30/05/2018 02:28

"And speaking of cast, poor old Michael Fishman who plays DeeJay has been in nothing else since growing up on Roseanne. I bet he could use that paycheck."

He's down to his last $8 million, poor love. He has stared in other Films and TV shows. He works on Sets, Writes, Directs and does stunts. He also does comedy.

helacells · 30/05/2018 02:30

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 02:30

OK, I’ll stop feeling sorry for DeeJay. I maintain that people are being punished for Rosesnne’s Twittergasm tho

I think she was doing it for publicity for the show. She way over-played it and she deserved to be shut down. Serves her right. But that the channel decided to renew for season 2 before 10 episodes were even aired, just because of the controversy Roseanne was generating are absolute idiots and it also serves them right and I hope the network loses a lot of money. They fed this animal so to speak. Now they are forced to abandon it.

To me it isn't just the racism and hatred that Trumpbots encourage, it is the stupid conspiracy theories, it is the OBSESSION they have with attacking Obama (ffs he is so 2 years ago now!), and abusing Hillary (even though they beat her they are still acting like they are in competition with her). If her tweets were based on current politicians, on current Democrats and their current policies, it would be one thing. But to be so utterly obsessed with one-upping Hillary and Obama still, even after they now are in govt and Hillary is defeated and Obama long gone? What is the point in being stuck in the past? Discuss current leaders and current Democrat policies and issues. Otherwise it all makes no sense.

noeffingidea · 30/05/2018 02:36

Furrydice they decided to work with a known racist. What did they think was going to happen?

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 02:41

Was she really a known racist, though? Was she really? I had no idea this was a thing she was supposed to be - and that’s not because I’m a fucking racist and agree with whatever shit she says- it’s because I don’t read the tweeter and only know her through other media.

OP posts:
FurryDice · 30/05/2018 02:45

By the way, I cried like a baby when Obamawas elected and cried like a fucking she beast from hell when Trump was. I LOATHE the cunt. Truly. I have no idea what possessed the —Russians— US public were thinking when they voted that piece of extrement in.

But yes, I liked this show. It wasn’t all Trump rah rah rah, it was kind of centrist. As I said, Roseanne was no longer writing it whatever her views and it was good. So yes, I am gutted it’s been cancelled.

YABU and I personally hope she never works again.

Agree with those who have pointed out that the cast knows her, knows what she has been doing for the last few years, and still signed on. She is a shameless attention seeker with no loyalty to anything but her own over-inflated ego.

Danny Zuker worked on the first incarnation of the show and tweeted, tongue in cheek:
"Hard to believe a woman who supports a man who calls nazis "very fine people," would turn out to be a miserable racist bag of shit. I'm definitely team @iamwandasykes!"

Not all the cast feels upset that the show is kaput.
Emma Kenney tweeted:
"As I called my manager to quit working on Roseanne, I was told it was cancelled. I feel so empowered by @iamwandasykes , Channing Dungey and anyone at ABC standing up for morals and abuse of power. Bullies will NEVER win."

Wanda Sykes, one of the producers, also pulled out ahead of the cancellation.

I am surprised Roseanne contained herself for the two months that it took before descending into gratuitous, mind-boggling offensiveness. I would have lost a bet if I had put money on the two weeks I thought it would take.

EachandEveryone · 30/05/2018 03:02

Wanda Sykes was writing it and I adore her. Loved her on Curb. I cant believe people would willingly work with her knowing that these were her views. Its such a shame I love John Goodman and I thought he was totally the opposite of Roseanne politically and the daughter Darlene. It couldnt have been money that motivated them they must have liked working with her for all those years.

Im also sad I havent seen the new one as it was getting good reviews. I was looking forward to it.

Is she going to turn up on Oprah again? I doubt it.

EachandEveryone · 30/05/2018 03:04

Cross posted there!

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 03:07

Without wishing to sound like an apologist, although I’ll no doubt be accused of being one, they worked together a very long time ago. Sara Gilbert was but a child when she first knew Roseanne and I believe John Goodman and Rosanne fell out probably many times but made it up again. Because that’s what people do!

Even if some of your friends hold views you’d rather they didn’t you kind of forgive them sometimes not always.

They knew her differently to how we do so I don’t think we can judge them for their complex feelings towards her.

OP posts:
FurryDice · 30/05/2018 03:13

And you know, Roseanne isn’t actually the antichrist. Like everyone she has light and shade.

When things like this happen people focus so much on the shade it seems to blot out any sun or spark of light whatsoever. There are very few people that are entirely good or entirely bad.

I am sounding slightly like an apologist now and that’s not my intention but in these social media days people are so quick to label ANTICHRIST.

OP posts:
EveningShadows · 30/05/2018 03:14

Verdad, even if not every right minded person voted for Clinton it can be safely said that no right minded person voted for or supports Trump. Impossible to be both right minded and a Trump supporter.

RedDwarves · 30/05/2018 03:32

She's always been a loudmouthed dickhead.

'Bout time it bit her on the arse.

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 03:34

My dad actually called her a loudmouth piece of shit. Which upset me. He’s very conservative and that’s what he, as a conservative, called her.

OP posts:
FurryDice · 30/05/2018 03:35

And he voted for Trump. So go figure.

OP posts:
RedDwarves · 30/05/2018 03:39

Furry I am also a conservative. I can still spot a dickhead when I see one.

FurryDice · 30/05/2018 03:41

I was just surprised, given the whole Twitterverse had her down as a Trumpite and he, being a Trumpite, didn’t like her.

I didn’t get it.

But that's exactly what she is.
