To ask what your low cost luxury is?

We are trying to save money at the moment so there is little room for luxury.

I'd love to hear your low cost (or even free!) luxuries? At the moment mine are a cheap bunch of flowers and a coffee from the machine. I did buy myself some tights today but I'm not sure you can call that a luxury...

How do you treat yourself?

Coffee. Being able to read a book, in peace, alone. Using cuticle oil. Alone.

Just generally being alone.

My dream for when I win the lottery is to have a shepherds hut at the bottom of my garden with a sign outside that says "fuck off" in lovely writing.

Camembert and crusty bread
Nice hand soap

Simple things Grin

Bakingberry · 26/05/2018 20:40

I treat myself to a nice bath. Posh bath oils last ages and are much cheaper then a trip to a spa.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/05/2018 20:43

Olive oil as hair mask. Cheap, and so so effective. Also good to remove make up
Do book swops with mates and I’m work folk bring in books they’ve read for free, so get a good read, and then recycle it
We swop dvd and boxsets too
Clean pjs hung on radiator so warm when I pop them on

ALittleAubergine · 26/05/2018 20:45

Colin caterpillar cake is amazing

Littlelambpeep · 26/05/2018 20:46

I love lillies too (usually buy in aldi) and they really brighten up the house.

I bought a magazine today. Usually the weekend times (love tjr magazines)

Aldo cappuccino sachets - bring one to work for first coffee. Also fresh soup cartons - cheaper than buying lunch ad I buy in aldi buy don't have to wash my bowl etc. Totally worth it !!!

Murane · 26/05/2018 20:48

A magazine subscription and a couple of uninterrupted hours in a hot bath once a month to read it. A squirt of expensive perfume every day. And an occasional takeaway!

haverhill · 26/05/2018 20:48

Jade by Yardley. Smells like Chanel Cristalle. Extraordinary Oil for hair, it’s fantastic.

BonnieF · 26/05/2018 20:49

Fruit.

A perfectly ripe white peach or punnet of raspberries is an amazing cheap treat.

MismatchedPJs · 26/05/2018 20:50

Supermarket or Boots sushi. Ok not really cheap, but the treat bit is the extra it costs over a sandwich. We also make sushi or onigiri at home, which is a treat to eat but a bit time consuming.

I don't really value posh coffee, I like coffee I make at home in my Hario V60.

Redcrayons · 26/05/2018 20:50

Mine is also flowers. I buy whatever is the cheapest in Tesco on Friday on my way home from work. Feels like a bit luxury even though I've never spent more than a fiver.

pasturesgreen · 26/05/2018 20:50

Cappuccino from the local independent posh coffee shop.

A 'new' book (can be second-hand).

A mani (I do my own nails, so free).

KeefBurtain · 26/05/2018 20:51

I always have flowers.

I live a stones throw from a Tesco metro and at 10 to 8 I send one of the teens down to pick up some flowers - they’re often selling them off for 10p a bunch. Don’t think I’ve spent more than £1 on a bunch in years.

HolyShmoly · 26/05/2018 20:51

I have a monthly flower budget. Nothing brings me anywhere near as much joy.

I also love a bubble bath with a book and classic fm, but lately my bump sticks up above the waterline and gets cold so it's not as enjoyable!

MissMarples plan sounds wonderful.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/05/2018 20:52

Buy make up testers on eBay eg Estée Lauder lipstick. No box,and looks like tester but still real deal

PastBananas · 26/05/2018 20:52

Proper strong farmhouse cheddar. We save money on a lot of other things, but I won't compromise on cheese. Mmmm.

noeffingidea · 26/05/2018 20:52

Crusty granary bread with some blue cheese.
Some liptons peach iced tea.
Cold iced water drunk out of a nice glass. Same with tea or coffee drunk out of a nice bone china mug.
Hand cream. Aldis is very cheap and nice.
I don't drink now,but I used to like those fruit flavoured spritzers.

myheart · 26/05/2018 20:53

Bought some massage oils and get Dh to give me some lovely massages.
Bubble bath with prosecco is nice too.

SlinkyB · 26/05/2018 20:54

Dark chocolate. The nicer stuff from Lidl or Aldi is still super cheap.

GeekyWombat · 26/05/2018 20:56

M&S flowers when they've been reduced. My DH mocks me but I love a yellow label - my best was a gorgeous massive bouquet of lilies and roses that would have been £25 but because they'd reached their sell by date and it was ten minutes to closing was down to £1.75. They lasted a week and gave me ridiculous amounts of joy.

Otherwise, a bar of whole nut and a copy of Take A Break (I know it's not luxury in itself, but reading it in the bath with a cuppa feels pretty decadent!).

Lou0390 · 26/05/2018 20:56

Aldi Face mask- smells lovely and good for the skin
Gin and Tonic
Walking the dog before anyone else is up- bliss

Queenoftheblitz · 26/05/2018 20:56

Smoked salmon
M&S cherries
Fresh orange juice

GreatWesternValkyrie · 26/05/2018 20:57

A really fab smelling fabric conditioner, a little more expensive than standard, reserved just for our bedlinen. We change the linen every Friday so that we start the weekend in a perfect, clean lovely smelling bed .... simple but lovely Smile

I often pick up face mask and exfoliating treatment samples at beauty counters and use one every Saturday morning - freebie treat!

plingly · 26/05/2018 20:58

A hot cup of tea in a le creuset mug, in bed, on my own
A perfectly ripe mango
A glass of prosecco while I have a bath
A medjool date stuffed with peanut butter
Lovely smelling hand cream
