AIBU to think that anyone who hears Laurel is playing a practical joke? It's definitely yanny!

Yanny - not even NEARLY Laurel.

ColinsVeryJolly · 16/05/2018 08:21

I can only hear Yanny.

38 btw.

honeysucklejasmine · 16/05/2018 08:21

Right. I am sat with American DH. I played it and asked what he hears, without telling him the options. "Laurel, what else?"

I hear Yanny. Well, yammy actually.

Crazy.

Jonsnowsghost · 16/05/2018 08:22

Yanny for me too, can not hear Laurel at all!

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 08:23

It's not a trick as DS heard it differently at the exact same time as me

I want the audiology geeks to come and tell us about the speech banana!

UterusUterusGhali · 16/05/2018 08:27

X post, NPG!

hula008 · 16/05/2018 08:33

Yeah the above link explains it - “Yannay” is high frequency which as some people get older they can’t hear but “Laurel” is low frequency in the background

ALY44 · 16/05/2018 08:33

100% yanny I cant hear anything that even remotely resembles laurel and I've listened about 50 times.... my 6 year old son however is adamant it's yanny

ALY44 · 16/05/2018 08:34

Sorry my 6 year old son is adamant it's laurel

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 16/05/2018 08:37

I'm in my 20s and can only hear Laurel Confused I'm generally pretty good with higher frequencies too. I don't understand at all!

shirleyschmidt1 · 16/05/2018 08:38

Yanny 100%!

DappledThings · 16/05/2018 08:39

Yanny for me, no hint of Laurel. I'm 38 but have weird hearing where I still hear high frequency stuff. Until only a couple of years ago I was still bothered by those Mosquito things they have to stop teenagers congregating and there is a projector in my office that has to be turned off at the wall otherwise the high-pitched whine when it's on standby drives me mad. Nobody else can hear it.

Antonia87 · 16/05/2018 08:39

Laurel in american accent

WeWere0nABreak · 16/05/2018 08:40

Laurel!

Apparently your hearing and what pitches you can hear has something to do with it, so then I tested that online, and now I'm depressed and blaming the shit speaker on my iPhone!!

StoorieHoose · 16/05/2018 08:41

I only hear Laurel. I’m Scottish and frequently using Yanny as a child friendly version of calling someone a fanny

VioletCharlotte · 16/05/2018 08:42

I can only hear Yanny.

AgentProvocateur · 16/05/2018 08:44

I hear Laurel, as clear as day. No hint of any Yanny! Grin

Chesntoots · 16/05/2018 08:44

I definitely hear Laurel

shockthemonkey · 16/05/2018 08:45

It's SO Laurel

Is this the audio equivalent of those silhouettes of pirouetting balerinas?

CheeseTheDay · 16/05/2018 08:45

I hear Laurel, and only Laurel. I'm 40.

AliasGrape · 16/05/2018 08:47

This was on the radio before and I heard Laurel clear as day, listening to the one linked now it’s plainly yann - so maybe sometimes I can hear high frequencies and sometimes not?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 16/05/2018 08:50

I think the speakers you are listening on make a difference, earlier I listened with headphones on and could hear both, and now listening on my iPhone speakers I can only hear Laurel

ToothTrauma · 16/05/2018 08:51

I don’t understand how anyone is hearing Yanny. It’s crazy.
