AIBU to think that anyone who hears Laurel is playing a practical joke? It's definitely yanny!

Oh my god that is so frustrating.

The very first one I heard yanny in a really weird American accent and now I can only hear laurel Confused

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 16/05/2018 07:55

Yanny. Every time. How is anyone hearing Laurel?!?

0h · 16/05/2018 07:58

It's Laurel now! Shock

OrangeJam · 16/05/2018 08:01

Now it's back to yanny and I don't know how I ever heard laurel. Nooooooo.

StickThatInYourPipe · 16/05/2018 08:01

Laurel for me - how is anyone hearing that as Yanny? Confused

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 16/05/2018 08:03

I can hear them both. The yanny is quite high pitched and the laurel is lower.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 08:04

Yanny

UterusUterusGhali · 16/05/2018 08:07

YANNY!

Sons hear Laurel. Wtf?!

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 08:07

WTAF ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

I hear yanny crystal clear... as I'm repeating it to try and hear the laurel which I can't AT ALL ....

DS (5) starts repeating out loud "laurel... laurel...laurel..."

WowserBowser · 16/05/2018 08:07

I hear something more like 'Yammy'

Ds who is 7 hears 'Yemmy'

ButFirstTea · 16/05/2018 08:08

I honestly think anyone who says Yanny is lying!! I cannot make out a Y or N sound whatsoever. I hear a very clear Laurel!

Treaclepie19 · 16/05/2018 08:08

Yanny. I can't get Laurel at all.

grendel · 16/05/2018 08:09

I think it’s to do with sound frequencies or something (#notatechie)

I can only hear laurel but I am old. I think the ‘yanny’ sound must use higher frequencies that only those with better hearing (and young people) can pick up.

VileyRose · 16/05/2018 08:10

I can only hear yanny?

Nothing remotely like Laurel

SlowlyShrinking · 16/05/2018 08:11

Just played it to my 10 yr old, without telling him the options, and he said ‘law-rull? Plural, maybe?’ I can only hear yanny and he’s incredulous Confused

NurseButtercup · 16/05/2018 08:12

I hear yanny I've listened 5 times. Gosh this is intriguing!!

Dollius01 · 16/05/2018 08:13

WTH?? It’s Laurel. Can’t hear anything even slightly resembling Yanny...

Lonelynessie · 16/05/2018 08:13

Laurel. Cannot for the life of me hear anything else.

Popopokemon · 16/05/2018 08:13

I can hear yanny but just asked my 6 year old what it said (without telling him yanny or laurel) and he said laurel! Surprised me as I can’t hear laurel at all!

DearPrudence · 16/05/2018 08:14

I listened for a good minute or more on a loop.
At first it as clearly yanny. Then I could hear the 'el' at the end, but it was still yanny. Then I could hear both. Now it's just laurel and I can't hear yanny at all. That's weird.

As pp said, yanny is like a higher pitch squeaky voice. Laurel is a deep voice.

Dollius01 · 16/05/2018 08:14

If it’s frequencies, let’s do a comparison. I am 44 and hear Laurel

Oysterbabe · 16/05/2018 08:16

It's Laurel. Not even the tiniest hint of Yanny.

TheBogWitchIsBack · 16/05/2018 08:16

I'm not sure it's frequencies. I'm 36 and I hear both quite clearly. I think it's an interesting study in perception rather than hearing.

NewPapaGuinea · 16/05/2018 08:18

I bet there’s both sounds played at different frequencies.

SenorBork · 16/05/2018 08:18

Deepish voice saying Laurel for me. I’m 39 and don’t think my hearing is that great,
