I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

Looks positive to me, take a FRER and see what it says?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 14/05/2018 14:36

It looks like there's a line there. Can you get a different brand of test? Or go to your GP or local sexual health clinic? I'm really sorry you're going through this Flowers

Frenchiemamax · 14/05/2018 14:36

Also I think false positives are pretty impossible to get?

alwaysthepessimist · 14/05/2018 14:37

I don't know what to say other than go and get a better test & try another one or get yourself off to your nearest family planning clinic. I had the implant and occasionally had a very light bleed, but very occasionally, maybe your hormones are playing a freaky game with you but you need to get it checked and verified.

Whatever the outcome & whatever you decide good luck and Flowers

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 14/05/2018 14:37

To be honest I don’t know why you are posting on here with a clearly positive test when you could just go and buy another test to make sure? Or go to the GP?

prettywhiteguitar · 14/05/2018 14:37

I’m not sure there are false positives unless you have a miscarriage, I’m
Sorry that’s probably not what you want to hear. If you have tested early it’s possible you might still get your period if the pregnancy doesn’t stick. When are you due on ?

moreismore · 14/05/2018 14:37

The only way you will stop freaking out (said kindly) is to take another test. Flowers

RexManning · 14/05/2018 14:38

IME Superdrugs and other pink dye tests are considered pretty reliable. How soon did the line appear? If after ten minutes or more it could be an evaporation line but I'm afraid that false positives are rare and the most likely explanation is that you are pregnant. I'm sorry that this isn't what you want. Good luck Flowers

Mrsfs · 14/05/2018 14:38

It looks like a line to me. Maybe take another test but I thought it was extremely rare to get a false positive, you are more likely to get false negatives.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/05/2018 14:38

Definitely positive. Test again with a different brand?

UserInfinityplus1 · 14/05/2018 14:39

I don't think false positives exist unless you are taking certain hormonal medication. Take another test tomorrow morning

Knackeredotcom · 14/05/2018 14:39

I’m sorry but that looks like a positive to me.
I’d Arrange an appointment with a dr to be sure, explaining that you were on birth control so you just want your home test confirmed or not.
Hope you get the outcome you’re looking for Flowers

CurlyRover · 14/05/2018 14:41

It looks like a line to me too, sorry Flowers

I've had a false positive but that was on a blue dye test. I think it's pretty unheard of to get a false on a pink dye test. Can you go and get a digital test? Although bare in mind it may be too early to detect.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/05/2018 14:41

looks like a positive to me.

I think you need a different form of contraception. If you're forgetting to take the pill. Although I'd never condemn or condone abortion. i dont believe it shouldn't be used as a means of contreception.

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 14:41

I expected all the 'why are you posting here' responses. I'm posting here because I've done what I was supposed to do. Taken a test. And I know I've read here before about superdrug pink dye tests giving false positive so I was looking to see what other people knew. I am currently at work but will be going out to get a variety of tests as soon as I can.

Please go and see your doctor. I got pregnant on the implant and it was an ectopic pregnancy. Get checked out x

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 14:42

I have a different form of contraception. Because I wasn't good with the pill, I got the implant. Which is supposed to be one of the most reliable forms of contraception. I am absolutely not using abortion as contraception - please read my post properly

Sallystyle · 14/05/2018 14:43

It's positive Thanks

I become pregnant on the coil which was perfectly in place. I will never forget the shock and the conflicting feelings. I did continue with the pregnancy (very nearly didn't) but it was an extremely difficult time. Much love to you Thanks

To be honest I don’t know why you are posting on here with a clearly positive test when you could just go and buy another test to make sure? Or go to the GP?

It isn't hard to work out why she posted here. She is scared and just wanted to talk it through with people.

BlueSuffragette · 14/05/2018 14:44

Do another test to be sure, but from this one and your potential symptoms, it looks like you could well be pregnant.

RexManning · 14/05/2018 14:45

@Awwlookatmybabyspider OP has said that she has the implant.

I'm sorry, OP, but it's unlikely that this is a false positive. Best make a GP appointment.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/05/2018 14:50

I second another poster that you should get checked out. I had a friend who had an ectopic on the implant.

welshweasel · 14/05/2018 14:51

Looks positive. Perhaps get a digital to make sure. You do have options, to not to panic.

myfriendbob · 14/05/2018 14:53

Although I'd never condemn or condone abortion. i dont believe it shouldn't be used as a means of contreception

A: Not the place

B: not your business

C: fucking stupid point anyway. Contraception is something that stops you concieving, abortion can never be contraception, and even without that its a stupid, nosy, judgey point.

Metalhead · 14/05/2018 14:57

I’m sorry OP but that looks like a very clear positive to me.

Happinessisabook · 14/05/2018 14:58

That looks positive to me, I'm sorry.
Buy some more tests, and test first thing tomorrow morning when your urine is more concentrated.
Hopefully it isn't, but as far as I'm aware a false negative is possible, but a false positive isn't.
Good luck Flowers
