I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

Sorry, I sounded like I think you are still on the pill, I know you are now on the implant - I just meant no contraception is infallible unfortunately.

freezerfoodyum · 14/05/2018 16:44

Wow can't believe some of the responses on this thread. Abortion is legal, fuckheads.

CurlyRover · 14/05/2018 16:46

Ugh ignore some of the people here OP.

It really sounds like things are coming together for you mental health and career wise. I really hope when you retest you get the result you want. It does sound like the test could have been flooded if it's disappeared.

DailyMailFail101 · 14/05/2018 16:47

Sorry looks positive, Flowers

Greenyogagirl · 14/05/2018 16:50

I had a termination, gp said ok and I had it done, no paperwork or anything.
Also pregnancy tests with both pregnancies the line disappeared, I thought that was normal.
Best bet is to check with gp

Rachie1973 · 14/05/2018 16:52

Some really ugly responses from people that don't read the full thread and don't know how the law works.

Looks positive, but if disappeared I'd try another test.

Good luck! xx

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 16:52

So I've done a clear blue digital early response and it's come up as 'not pregnant' But the superdrug test comes up positive at 20mg (I'm sure mg isn't right but you know what I mean) in the blood and the clear blue at 25. So not out of the woods yet.But the fact that the line has disappeared on the first one has to be a good sign?

Hiphopopotamus

I'm in early recovery from alcoholism

Just seen this bit too. Well done. HUGE achievement x

Zeze247 · 14/05/2018 16:55

Good luck OP. Though why would your dp loose his job I’m pretty sure that illegal!

Freshfeelings · 14/05/2018 17:02

I have had false positives on cheap tests before, it can definitely happen.

Congratulations on all you are achieving in your life right now. I hope that this turns out to have been a false scare.

LagunaBubbles · 14/05/2018 17:03

Hope it works out for you but I'm not sure what you mean about your fiance losing his job if you have a baby and not married?

Nesssie · 14/05/2018 17:04

Zeze247 - family business? And the family is strictly catholic so no sex/children before marriage? Unfortunately I'm sure employers can find a way to dismiss someone if they really wanted.

swingofthings · 14/05/2018 17:08

OP, the same thing happened to me 9 years ago with... a test from superdrug. It was the first time trying and I couldn't believe that I could already be pregnant. I think I took 4 superdrug tests and all with some kind of line that looked a lot like yours. I wasn't pregnant.

I spoke to medical professionals about it and they told me that it could have been because I'd just come off the pill and sometimes the hormones from the contraceptives can mess things up.

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 17:09

Re. The job thing. Incredibly outing so I’m not going to go into details. I shouldn’t have brought it up really

picklemepopcorn · 14/05/2018 17:11

Well done on turning your life around. I do hope that this is a false alarm. Thanks

userabcname · 14/05/2018 17:18

If think you are pregnant, go and see your GP as having the implant increases risk of ectopic pregnancies. Also quite shocked if you are - I have it and GP said it's the most reliable contraceptive out there! But I guess nothing is 100% effective.

SweetIcedTea · 14/05/2018 17:24

Most GP practices don't do routine pregnancy tests now, only when prescribing certain medications, because these days there are reliable home pregnancy tests, exactly the same as they use in GP practices.

You don't need to use a GP appointment to confirm pregnancy. You can go to a sexual health clinic if you can't aquire your own test.

This does vary across the country, so best to check before making an appointment.

sexnotgender · 14/05/2018 17:26

I totally understand the job thing, had I fallen pregnant before I married my husband he would also have lost his career.
Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t make it untrue.
Sounds like you’re getting your life back on track, hope it all works out for you.

Rachie1986 · 14/05/2018 17:30

I'd wait a couple of days and test again to be sure.. hope it's the result you want OP x

Karmin · 14/05/2018 17:32

A positive is a positive, it may be early and the digital won't confirm but the fact the line disappeared doesn't mean anything, it just happens when they dry at times.

As others have said you need to do another early test with first-morning urine (or after 4 hours of not drinking) if that is positive within the time limit get an urgent GP appointment due to the ectopic pregnancy risk.

You sound like have come so far and are doing incredibly well, you have achieved so much, whatever choice you make will be the right one for your life, it doesn't matter on the opinions of others.

RexManning · 14/05/2018 17:32

Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t make it untrue

I feel like this should be printed across every AIBU thread in massive flashing letters.

KitKatCHA · 14/05/2018 17:57

None of my positive test lines have disappeared and I kept them for quite a long time. Instead of holding the test in a stream of urine while peeing, I preferred peeing in a clean pot and dipping the test in to avoid flooding.

I hope you get the result you want Flowers

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 18:01

A few of you now have mentioned flooding. What is this?

OP posts:
Nunya · 14/05/2018 18:10

I expected all the 'why are you posting here' responses.

^There was actually only 1 "why are you posting here" response and 13 "looks positive to me but re-test" responses. Which is about the only thing that anyone can reasonably respond with, I think.

MaverickSnoopy · 14/05/2018 18:11

OP I get the career thing. My grandparents gave their first born up for adoption as my grandfather would have lost his career if people had found out. My grandmother was shipped off for the pregnancy so that no one knew. Since then that particular "industry" hasn't changed at all.

It sounds like this really would be the worst thing for you, but you don't have to defend yourself to anyone.

The test does look positive to me and a digital isn't as sensitive as other tests. I'd say take a FRER in the morning.

Thinking of you Thanks
