I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

I wouldn't call forgetting to take your pill, followed by an abortion then implant, no periods for 8 months and now a pregnancy scare no side affects of you being solely responsible for contraception.
What's wrong with condoms anyway? Men should be taking more responsibility for contraception.

CardinalCat · 15/05/2018 13:13

FFS kaytee, have a word with yourself. The OP made a mistake and then acted responsibly in getting an implant (which is a highly effective form of contraception) while she waits, within her long term committed relationship, to be in a positon to have children.

What's wrong with condom's anyway? How about some stats-

Out of 100 Women Using Male Condoms:
Typical Use: 18 Women Become Pregnant

Out of 100 Women Using Hormonal Implants
Typical Use: 1 or Fewer Women Become Pregnant

It seems unfair that the pressure is all on op. I'm reminding her that her fiancé should be responsible too especially if a pregnancy would be so damaging to her career.
Last I read was that condoms are 98% effective. They're certainly good for doubling up if there appears to be issues remembering / or hormonal contraception not working.

His*

Hiphopopotamus · 15/05/2018 14:22

FFS all the pressure isn't on me! My fiance is just as responsible, as our contraception choice was a joint decision. Yes I did forget to take my pill regularly. I was in the midst of a severe mental health crisis and regularly taking medication was not something I was in a frame of mind to be doing. We both paid the price for that which is why I now have the implant. Yes it does stop my periods, which to be honest is a big plus for me and my periods were very heavy and painful. As a couple, we don't get on with condoms and we AS A COUPLE made this contraceptive choice. So thanks for your 'reminders' but they are not necessary

For anyone still following I've just done a FRER and there's no hint of a line. All of these negative tests combined with the line disappearing on the first test definitely makes me think that the first one was wrong.

Yay! So pleased for you! I would say that if possible it might be worth using a barrier method as well in future if pregnancy would be a disaster for you. Apparently implants do fail sometimes if inserted incorrectly.

Glad it's negative ThanksThanks

Sidge · 15/05/2018 18:32

Addy2 that article was from 2011 and referred to Implanon.

We use Nexplanon now which is more 'reliable' and less problematic to insert.

Hiphopopotamus glad you've had more negative results. Hopefully you can relax now!

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 18:35

Phew OP!

LoveInTokyo · 15/05/2018 18:48

Glad it seems to have been a false positive, OP.

I can’t believe anyone would be less than supportive when you clearly explained that you have the implant.

whogivesafeck · 18/05/2018 19:03

Well OP, how are you doing now several days later?

Happinesss · 18/05/2018 19:10

Iv had this before op.

Superdrug test was positive but I wasn’t pregnant.

Talk about panic!

Crunchymum · 18/05/2018 19:33

Even if you didn't have the implant, you have no need to explain yourself to the narrowminded, ignorant pro-life zealots.

Sarahliam2018 · 12/10/2018 18:02

hello I have done a pregnancy test and mine is positive too....but then took another and it was negative I really want to know if I’m pregnant it’s very frustrating
