I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

There are a few situations in which you can get a false positive. The link below gives seven possible explanations.

www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/false-positive-pregnancy-test#evaporation-lines

I'd test again. Good luck, hope you get the result you hope for. x

WomaninGreen · 14/05/2018 15:08

I seem to be the only one, but I thought that yes, you could get a false positive for all kinds of reasons

clearly you need to get to a doctor asap but I am keeping everything crossed for you Flowers

Dungeondragon15 · 14/05/2018 15:12

It is positive but it is clearly a very early pregnancy. Test again.

Nesssie · 14/05/2018 15:16

Although I'd never condemn or condone abortion. i dont believe it shouldn't be used as a means of contreception. -

Err I think she's using her implant as a means of contraception...

Only way to know op is to see a doctor. Quicker you find out the quicker you can make a choice..

Nesssie · 14/05/2018 15:16

sooner not quicker

mikeyssister · 14/05/2018 15:30

OP I hope you get the right outcome and make the right choice for you. Whatever anyone says you are not using abortion as a contraceptive.

Stephisaur · 14/05/2018 15:30

Sorry OP but it does look positive Flowers

HOWEVER, I have seen a few people on the conception board have similar results with the Superdrug tests and then they end up not being pregnant.

You would be best off getting a FRER (make sure to get the EARLY one, not the RAPID one) and testing again as they have the highest sensitivity.

I'm really sorry you're faced with such a tough choice right now

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 15:34

Update - the line has now completely disappeared. Not even a squinter left. Does this change anything or is this just what happens with tests after a while?

Treaclepie19 · 14/05/2018 15:37

I'm sorry you're going through this. They can just disappear... but I'd do another test to make sure. As above, first response.
Don't get a blue dye clear blue or similar.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/05/2018 15:41

Fingers crossed OP.

MyDcAreMarvel · 14/05/2018 15:41

It’s most likely an evap then. Abortion is only allowed if two doctors agree the pregnancy affects your mental or physical health.
Your “ life plans” don’t come into it.

What??

enjoyingscience · 14/05/2018 15:45

That's so incredibly stressful OP. You do need to test again, and make a GP appointment now just in case - you can cancel it if it's a clear neg and no harm done.

I hope it turns out the way you want.

Storminateapot · 14/05/2018 15:48

I still have the positive sticks from both of my pregnancies. They are 19 & 16 years old - both pink line tests, just had a look & both lines still visible after all these years. Could be evap line then, but you'll wonder until you get another more sensitive test.

I always thought false negs were common but rarely false positives.

Treaclepie19 · 14/05/2018 15:48

I am wondering... did you hold it in the urine a bit long? It may have flooded the test? Would explain why it disappeared.
Though obviously they do say any result after the time has elapsed is invalid.

EB123 · 14/05/2018 15:48

It looks positive but definitely take another test.

Unplanned pregnancy can be incredibly stressful, I've been there and dc I'm sure man5u others on mn have too. x

Mmm that must be why I was able to walk into my GP, ask for an abortion and have nobody asks why. You are talking utter shite. Just because you’re view is
utterly fucked up doesn’t mean the law is.

Skarossinkplunger · 14/05/2018 15:50

*Grammar fail because I was so furious at that response.

I have severe depression and anxiety and I'm in early recovery from alcoholism. I have started a new job in the last 6 months which I love and I'm finally getting myself on track. I'm due to be getting married in a few months, and having a baby outside of marriage would mean my fiancee losing his career. I would say that a pregnancy right now would affect my mental health pretty damn severely.

OP posts:
elisaveta · 14/05/2018 15:52

I got pregnant with the implant perfectly in place, but had a miscarriage shortly afterwards. However, the line on my stick didn't disappear.

I hope you're OK, OP. I found it one of the most stressful times. I really don't know why you're getting some of these arsey replies either. Hope it all works out for the best xx

AmberNectarine · 14/05/2018 15:52

Christ, this has brought out some utter bellends.

OP as others have said, get a FRER and if that is positive, straight to the drs, due to risk of ectopic.

I really feel for you - I have had four unplanned pregnancies, all whilst using various forms of contraception. I chose to continue with two of them. No questions were asked when I went to Marie Stopes about why I didn't wish to continue with the others, they just treated me kindly and respectfully.

sillyoldowl · 14/05/2018 15:52

Op can you grab another test and try again? You may need an early scan to check how far along

skippy67 · 14/05/2018 15:53

That's not true.

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 15:54

This is getting very outing - I didn't mean to post so many details about myself. I'm just upset
