I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

Yes Nunya I overreacted to that one post because (hopefully understandably) I was, and still am, feeling upset and worried and therefore defensive.

Thank you to all of you that have been understanding and supportive. It's genuinely helped to be able to talk some of this out.

Abortion is only allowed if two doctors agree the pregnancy affects your physical or mental health.

That's how the 1967 Act is worded, but we've moved beyond that now. I think you still need two doctors to agree to the abortion, but, as I understand it, it's merely a formality now.

Lizzie48 · 14/05/2018 18:20

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope it turns out you're not pregnant, it's the last thing you need right now. ThanksThanks

Nunya · 14/05/2018 18:22

I'm sorry that you are feeling so upset and worried. I think anyone in your position would feel that same. Best of luck to you and I really do hope you get the result you are looking for.

Karmin · 14/05/2018 18:32

Flooding is when there is too much urine that sort of drowns the test. If you miss-angle the test so that the urine flows in rather than on.

abitunhinged · 14/05/2018 18:45

I had a false positive with a superdrug test. In a panic I googled like mad and it would seem it is quite common.

HappyLollipop · 14/05/2018 18:52

It looks pretty positive to me, do another pregnancy test to confirm it but I'm hoping it's a false positive for you and your fiancé. If you need another abortion I'm sure bpas will have no problem scheduling one but it's better to get it done earlier than later.

Zcarter · 14/05/2018 18:52

I have severe depression and anxiety and I'm in early recovery from alcoholism. I have started a new job in the last 6 months which I love and I'm finally getting myself on track. I'm due to be getting married in a few months, and having a baby outside of marriage would mean my fiancee losing his career. I would say that a pregnancy right now would affect my mental health pretty damn severely.

Please don’t justify your self to anyone op sending
You lots of good vibes hopeing it’s an evap line for you xxx

HateTheDF · 14/05/2018 18:58

OP when I fell pregnant my test looked like yours but I would say that it is a good sign that the line has disappeared and a very good sign that the second one has come back as negative.

If I were you I would do another test, a third time just to make sure after first one looks positive and second negative. Then give it a couple of days and do another one to see what that says.

BurpeesAreTheWorkOfTheDevil · 14/05/2018 19:06

I've never heard of a job where the you can't have a baby before marriage Confused
But that doesn't change my opinion, your body, your choice

Hiphopopotamus · 14/05/2018 20:08

Like I said, you're just going to have to trust me on the job thing - any more details would be outing.

I can think of a few! But won't speculate.

Good luck with your next test, OP.

londonrach · 15/05/2018 06:26

Sorry op thats a positive. Never heard of false postive but you can get false negatives. Suggest you see the gp xxxx

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/05/2018 06:40

Flowers Op. Please don’t let this risk your recovery. See your GP ASAP.

Cantchooseaname · 15/05/2018 06:40

Hope you get the result you want this morning. Some people are just idiots. Ignore them.

CardinalCat · 15/05/2018 09:42

Any update, OP? Hope you're feeling ok.

Hiphopopotamus · 15/05/2018 12:30

Tests this morning have come out as negative- done two so far! I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days though and will definitely be taking a few more to make sure.

Figgygal · 15/05/2018 12:35

Fingers crossed for you op

kaytee87 · 15/05/2018 12:42

I'd still get yourself to the Doctor op incase of ectopic or miscarriage. I actually didn't think it was possible to get a false positive.
If a pregnancy would be so damaging to your fiancés career then maybe he should be wearing a condom or abstaining instead of you having to get an abortion, go on hormonal contraception and have all this worry. Just a thought, it's not only your responsibility Thanks

Hiphopopotamus · 15/05/2018 12:46

We made the decision about contraception together. We are in a committed relationship and have both been tested for STD's. Neither of us want to abstain and I am happy to use hormonal contraception. It has no side affects for me. It is both of our responsibility and a decision we made together.

Ime the most accurate tests are the cheapie strip ones. I've used dozens of them in my time, and they only ever showed any line at all on the three occasions that I was actually pregnant with my DDs.

Frosty66612 · 15/05/2018 12:57

The cheap strip ones have given me false positives on two occasions. Always had an accurate result with frer
