I’ve seen a lot about the Superdrug tests being notorious for false positives - please tell me that’s the case. I’ve just taken one - picture attached - and I can see a line.

I have the implant. Full disclosure, I got the implant after an early abortion about a year and a half ago. That abortion was due to my forgetting to take my pill regularly and I got the implant to avoid any future mistakes.

I’m still with the same partner and we are getting married in a few months. However, a baby right now is not an option. Trust me on this. It would completely screw up our life plans that we are so close to starting. At the same time, I’m not sure I could have another abortion - it was so difficult to get through last time.

I took the test because I felt headachey and nauseous and due to my past experience I’m a little paranoid about an unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t expect it to be positive, especially as I’m having my first (very light!) period in about 8 months due to the implant pretty much stopping my periods.

So am I right in thinking this could be a false positive? I’m freaking out

This happened to me once. Took a test and it came up with a pink line and I almost had a heart attack (was on the pill at the time and definitely didn’t want to be pregnant). Everyone I showed it to said it was definitely a positive. After about 40 mins the line just disappeared and when I did another text the next day it was negative.
Can you do a digital test as that might give you a more definite answer? Try not to panic as the implant has a very tiny failure rate

Redpony1 · 14/05/2018 15:55

MyDcAreMarvel That's totally false information!!

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 14/05/2018 15:57

Abortion is only allowed if two doctors agree the pregnancy affects your mental or physical health.

This is, actually, technically true. It is the letter of the law.

However, MyDCAreMarvel is still talking bollocks. The NHS rightly recognises that any pregnancy a woman doesn't want to continue poses a risk to her physical and mental health. So if you want a termination, two doctors will gladly sign off on the fact that in their opinion it is the best thing for your health. All you have to do is ask; there's no "test" to pass.

AmberNectarine · 14/05/2018 15:57

Problem with digitals is that they're not v sensitive so it might very well say negative if OP's hormone levels aren't high enough yet, even if she is pg.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 14/05/2018 16:00

I have the paperwork from my own termination, in which two doctors I had not met signed to this effect. I was never questioned. I went to BPAS, requested a termination and they gave me one, end of.

OP, I agree you need to retest but if the line has disappeared don't panic yet. That test did look like it hadn't settled yet and many tests can have a positive line temporarily appear while the dye is being drawn up the test.

Frosty66612 · 14/05/2018 16:00

What day of your cycle are you at now roughly, OP?

Leaspr · 14/05/2018 16:00

Ok. So a lot of these posts really aren't helpful.
It could be an evaporation line - I see its light red all around the edges. I'd recommend getting a Clearblue. Some things are definitely worth paying a bit more for. Either that or go to your doctor and they'll do a test there for you.
You know from experience (as do I) that these things are best done sooner rather than later. Posting on here isn't going to change the outcome based on whether other people think it's positive of not!

VivaKondo · 14/05/2018 16:01

Go and buy another test.
Don’t think and rethink about this one, is it an evaporation line etc... you are going to make yourself crazy wondering.
So go and buy another one, from a more reputable brand. Even if it’s more expensice and out your mind at rest, one way or the other.

Nesssie · 14/05/2018 16:03

OP you don't have to explain yourself at all! It sounds like now is not a good time for you to have a baby and that's ok! You do not need any reason to get an abortion other than you want to.

Do another test or visit your GP so at least you know where you are pregnant or not.

MadMags · 14/05/2018 16:05

and having a baby outside of marriage would mean my fiancee losing his career.

WTF am I reading on this thread?!

Not that you need any other reason than you just don't want to continue, but that's a pretty significant reason NOT to anyway x

justanotheruser18 · 14/05/2018 16:06

Looks positive.. but it's faint. You probably need to take a couple to be certain.

captainjacksparrow · 14/05/2018 16:06

I fell pregnant on the implant. Ds is now nearly 6. When I went for my first scan I was told this happened to lots of women. My line didn't disappear tho.
It can be very hard to track your cycle when the implant effectively stops your period. I hadn't had one in over 3 years and had no idea how far along I was until I had a scan

HeedMove · 14/05/2018 16:07

I have never had a line disappear and have taken multiple tests over five pregnancys.

I would do a first response so it either says pregnant or not pregnant. Wait for first morning urine. I hope its negative for you.

LiitleAce · 14/05/2018 16:08

I was using a contraceptive and still got pregnant, they're not 100%

Looks pretty positive to me OP...

ellsbells2 · 14/05/2018 16:11

Hope you're okay OP. I agree with the other ladies that have said get a FRER.

The test you've done does look positive but definitely try a different brand.

Good luck

glueandstick · 14/05/2018 16:12

It looks pretty positive to me. Don’t panic, do another first thing in the morning. If it’s positive get yourself checked over just in case there is an issue with the implant.

Don’t worry. It isn’t the end of the world. You sound like you’ve done a pretty good job getting your life back in order- be proud of that.

fuzzywuzzy · 14/05/2018 16:15

OP go to your gp tell him/her you need an abortion. I’d do it sooner rather than later.

The test is positive, if I were you I’d get a referral quickly.

Smashpumpkin · 14/05/2018 16:16

I agree with other posters in saying don’t panic yet. Take another test tomorrow and go from there. Flowers

Chimchar · 14/05/2018 16:16

Just wanted to send you a hug op. You sound like things are coming together for you.
I really hope that another test shows you the negative you want.

If you do get a negative, Maybe you should book in to see your gp or whoever did you're implant, just to get it checked.

blueskyinmarch · 14/05/2018 16:26

Ignore the unhelpful people on the thread OP. Get another type of test and do it tomorrow morning. Then you can make plans if needed.

crispysausagerolls · 14/05/2018 16:28

Looks very positive to me - sorry OP. Take another test/different brand and see how you go. Ignore all the negative nancies.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 14/05/2018 16:30

The line looks positive but usually it doesn't disappear. I have a test from over 6yrs ago that still has the line on. Hopefully it was just a dodgy test.

2kidsnopets · 14/05/2018 16:32

That looks like a positive to me.
This is the situation I dread. I absolutely do not want another baby, DC2 was ridiculously hard work as a baby and I 100% do not want that again. I am totally paranoid about contraception as a result.

Wellthisunexpected · 14/05/2018 16:37

@Hiphopopotamus some people are fucking idiots, and on this thread it is NOT you!

That's a line. Even if its disappeared you need to retest - get a first response early response one AND a clear blue digital with conceptions indicator (the conception indicator ones are more sensitive than the normal digi ones).

I had a unexpected pregnancy whilst on the pill a few weeks ago, even though I'd taken it religiously. It happens, it's shit, but it's not your fault.

Loveatthefiveanddime · 14/05/2018 16:37

I think it looks too pink and flooded, and the fact that the line disappeared would mean negative if that was within the timeframe. I am not sure if you told us the time it took for the line to disappear, but if it was minutes then I would say there is a good chance it is negative.

And please ignore the judgers on here with their staggering insensitivity. Do not feel you have to dignify their uncalled for opinions with a response, just ignore, ignore, ignore.
