To think I actually do need to lose more weight? (Photo)

Sick of being told that I don’t need to lose anymore weight. I’ve lost a considerable amount so it does get commented on without me ever bringing it up.

Disclaimer (I know I’m not huge, but I was obese last year and I think it’ll stay with me forever and I’ll always feel big. I also didn’t leave the house showing my stomach)

Primrose, I did not do that or insinuate that, I said her photo made her look larger and I showed a photo of myself where I also looked larger but know I'm the same size. Several times I said if she was a size ten she was small ad the photo was misleading so we couldn't comment.

I am unsure why you keep attacking me. Clearly something has upset you. I'm guessing this is a sensitive subject for you, so maybe take a step back from this or explain why this is so sensitive for you and why you're on the attack?

Predominantly this has been a very body positive thread, let's try to keep it that way.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2018 12:58

On a lighter note, pun intended, as you've now called me weird, creepy and freaky, you appear to be labouring under the misapprehension that I didn't save the photo simply to repost, I saved it for my own viewing pleasure.

I can assure you that as lovely as her tummy is, it is straight in my trash bin and neither the op or you need to worry I'm getting off on the view of her midriff 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

noeffingidea · 07/05/2018 12:59

Primrose where's the hate? People are just pointing out that you can't really tell if a person is overweight or not from one photo of one part of her body. She really needs to assess that for herself, using the same tools that everyone else uses ie bmi, measurements, and if she wants a more indepth analysis, body fat %.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/05/2018 14:50

I have a bmi of 25 and dropping. I'm in my 50s. I have had 2 children and 2 c-sections. I'm not particularly fit but starting again after a back injury. I'm 5'9 and medium build. I'm wearing size 12 jeans today but also wear 14 or sometimes 16. They all fit. They are all similar style and from the same shop. You really can't tell by clothes size. I would say that a 14 from most shops is about right and where i would start from when trying on clothes.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 07/05/2018 14:55

I am 5ft 9" and this morning weighed 11st. 7lbs and I am barely closing my size 12 jeans!

I would need to be about 10st. 7 - 10. 13 to fit into a size 10.

I am tall but slightly apple shaped

rookiemere · 07/05/2018 14:58

The other thing is that when you lose weight it tends to come off your face first before other parts of your body. So I've had situations where my face has looked a bit gaunt, but I'm still well padded - but obviously not as much as before. So people could be thinking that OP has overdone it but she's still technically overweight according to BMI calculations.

Its a weird thread as its very hard to judge someone's weight and its appropriateness as a weight for them based purely on a small photo of their midriff. Even given the fact that OP weight trains doesn't help much - this means she could go to Bodypump once a week or she could be deadlifting her own bodyweight 3 times a week at the gym.

We'd need full length photo, measurements, and a body fat reading. Even then it would only be an assessment based on commonly perceived wisdom of healthiness/aesthetic concepts.

WaitingForSunday17 · 07/05/2018 16:02

I'm 5 foot 5 and weigh 8stone and I'm a size 8-10 but I don't look any slimmer than you do in that photo!
I think maybe you must have muscle because it's heavier than fat isn't it?
Frame makes a difference too. Even when I was only 7 stone I was still a size 8, I can never get down any lower than that it seems.

placebobebo · 07/05/2018 16:09

I wouldn't lose more weight, but if you want to change your shape further, I would suggest more exercise to tone the areas you are still unhappy with. Yoga/Pilates will do wonders for you core and also drastically improve your posture.

If you are sick of people telling you you don't need to lose more, then that is only in response to you saying you do. I would be careful about becoming obsessive about it. You sound like you are crossing that line tbh. You can see fat, where others can see good proportion.

Ohyesiam · 07/05/2018 16:12

Op, if I had a body like yours I would jump for joy.
That is one beautiful midrif, and I wish you were celebrating it , not questioning it.

Ohyesiam · 07/05/2018 16:13

And I do get it, the constant pressure to look perfect.

Notthatwomanagain · 07/05/2018 16:25

@jms that’s so interesting as you look so slim in that photo and yet your BMI would suggest not at that point

Shows you there are many markers for being healthy and all of them imperfect

I think deep down we usually have a good idea what our healthy weight feels like but sometimes can be either side of this and convince ourselves it’s ok.

We do need to be kind to ourselves as women. The pressure is ridiculous

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2018 17:25

I agree, we need to be kind to ourselves and each other. There is clearly nothing wrong with the ops body. It's her body and she can do as she pleases.

However we also have to be honest given a straight question, otherwise what's the point. And based on that image popular opinion would be two stone is too much to lose. And she does not "need" to lose more weight. Should she wish to, then yes, she can probably lose some without endangering her health by being too thin. It's kinder to be honest with her and say it sounds too much.

The issue though is the image is decieving. It's very hard to tell from that cropped shot. Her weight height and bmi would say she can lose two stone and be healthy. Her photo and dress size says she cannot. They are disconnected.

I'm three inches taller and about a stone to a stone and a half lighter than her , but yet our shapes are similar, amd our dress size identical and I also work out and with weights. So it shows you simply can't tell by any of these markers. At the same dress size and me being taller, you'd expect me to weigh the most. Not the op.

I really don't care how many people shout about vanity sizing and a size ten being "massive", it's not. And a size six is tiny. Telling her a ten is massive is simply warped and encouraging her to get too thin.

ErictheGuineaPig · 07/05/2018 18:45

Yes, i agree with Bluntness. Very surprised that the op can look as she does, be a size 10 and be 11st9. I've also never experienced vanity sizing personally, despite shopping on the high street. I was a size 10 at around 9.5/10 stone and am now a size 14 at around 11.5/12 stone. I am overweight now but definitely wasn't as a size 10.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/05/2018 19:15

See Eric, I weigh 15 stone 5 and am a size 14 on top and 16 on bottoms 🤷🏻‍♀️

GinandGingerBeer · 07/05/2018 19:24

I'm 5ft 4" and weigh 2 stone less than you.
I'm 9st 9lb at the moment as I've put half a stone ish on and I don't look as slim as you!
My ideal weight is 9st 4lb.
That half a stone makes a massive difference, I feel 'heavy' at my current weight.

ErictheGuineaPig · 07/05/2018 20:06

It is crazy, and just goes to show - as Bluntness says - how hard it is to judge this stuff.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 07/05/2018 20:11

Being of a similar height, OP, 9st 9lb isn't a drastic aim at all. I'm a lot heavier than you but pre DC I was around 10st and certainly not thin. I was fine and I'd like to get there again.

Fresta · 07/05/2018 21:18

There's no way you could be 11st 9lb and a size 10 at only 5'5" tall! Vanity sizing or not!

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2018 11:42

To be fair, I think she could be, some folks do weigh heavier and as we have seen from this thread, there are huge variances.

I also don't see why she would lie about it, when her thread is about the fact she wishes to lose weight.

I would agree it seems an anomaly and not usual, but it is possible.

GorgonLondon · 08/05/2018 16:44

Let's be real here, in that photo she looks like she'd weigh about 12.5 stone at 5'6. She looks on the heavy side. I don't see any disconnect between jms 's stats and her photograph.

I'm 5'8 and weigh 2 stone less than that, and I would say that's accurately reflected in my appearance. I could stand to lose a bit of weight. (And yes, I lift weights and have visible muscles, work out daily).

GorgonLondon · 08/05/2018 16:44

Sorry, I meant to say I weigh 3 stone less than that, not 2 stone - I'm 9 st 6.

BlueRiviera · 08/05/2018 16:58

Wow you dragged up this thread just to be horrible? Go you.

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2018 17:02

Well to be fair, it's hardly dragged up, it's a current thread.

But yeah the comments aren't pleasant. She doesn't look on the heavy side and as I've proven, pics can be deceptive.

BlueRiviera · 08/05/2018 17:14

Do you live on this thread?

BlueRiviera · 08/05/2018 17:17

You’re obsessed with it for some strange reason.
