To think I actually do need to lose more weight? (Photo)

Sick of being told that I don’t need to lose anymore weight. I’ve lost a considerable amount so it does get commented on without me ever bringing it up.

Disclaimer (I know I’m not huge, but I was obese last year and I think it’ll stay with me forever and I’ll always feel big. I also didn’t leave the house showing my stomach)

You don't to post a photo really do you? If your BMI is above 25 you need to lose weight. It is next to impossible for a biological female human to have so much muscle mass that they have a BMI over 25. Also, what are your measurements? Is your waist below 31"? If not that's another sign you still need to lose weight. Don't bother discussing your weight with other people, people will be polite and say you look fine but that doesn't mean they necessarily think it. Or they do but they've lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like.

noeffingidea · 07/05/2018 07:53

Oh and remember the waist measurement rule. Your waist should be half or less than half your height.

GorgonLondon · 07/05/2018 07:58

Op ignore the people who say you'd look skeletal or haggard at a healthy weight. A lot of people have lost sight of what a normal weight looks like.

I'm 5 ft 8 and weigh 9 st 6 and I'd like to get back to 8 st 12 (my usual summer weight!) I'm far from skeletal.

TammySwansonTwo · 07/05/2018 07:59

Your weight really shocks me. I’m only a couple of inches shorter than you, a couple of pounds lighter than you and I am bordering on obese. Perhaps it is the fact that you are weight training.

I had a pretty severe eating disorder in my teens / early 20s and I was never thin enough. It didn’t matter how much weight I lost, that size 6 clothes were hanging off me, I still saw something that wasn’t there when I looked in the mirror. I am not saying you have this problem, I would just say to be very mindful of the fact that the way you see yourself may not be the way you actually look.

You’ve done incredibly well to lose weight, I’m very happy for you - please don’t let it get out of hand Flowers

Moxiebelle · 07/05/2018 08:00

I lost 5 stone quite fast on a vlcd (sadly I've now regained a lot but that's another story) as I got closer to a healthy bmi I did start getting a lot of comments about 'you aren't going to lose too much more are you?' etc, which I found very unhelpful to be honest. But one thing was I found I lost a lot from my upper half so my face and chest looked really slim and you could see my ribs a bit, but my hips and legs were still quite big comparatively and I was in size 12 jeans. I would have liked to get to my goal of bmi 21 but I ended up setting my target a bit higher to bmi 23, as I worried I look worse if I lost more off my top.
The funny thing was health has always been my main motivation for losing weight, not how I look, but I did end up getting worried about looking too thin and not basing my decisions mainly on health.

pinkhorse · 07/05/2018 08:03

As I said previously I'm a size 10 but don't look like you do in that picture. My tummy is totally flat and I'm very toned. If that's the look you're going for then you do need to lose more weight and if your BMI is overweight then you do need to lose more but if you're happy at the weight you're at now then don't lose any more.

dietcokemango · 07/05/2018 08:07

If you care so little why post eh? Oh right I forgot, some people just enjoy being jealous nasty.

I'm the same height as the OP and exactly four stone lighter so no jealousy here but I reckon OP is fishing as well.

lljkk · 07/05/2018 08:10

I can't tell from the pic. Maybe a bit heavy in that.

I'm 5'8" with broad shoulders, get lots of exercise, seems like my ideal weight is about 10 stone. 5'5" & 11st9 sounds too much to me.

Moxiebelle · 07/05/2018 08:10

Generally for people who only do light exercise like myself, I'd always want to set my target weight in the healthy range and with a healthy waist measurement. You do say you are doing weight lifting though which is known to skew bmi results. In that case I'd get an expert from your gym to help work out a good goal weight for you to be healthy, with the level of muscle/body fat you want.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2018 08:21

It's interesting, I think close up pics can be deceptive and hard to tell.

I'm also a size ten, and for comparison purposes here is a pic of myself in jeans just now. I think the images are fairly similar.

BaconCrispsGone · 07/05/2018 08:22

Have you tried using scales that measure body fat percent? Some gyms have them or argos used to sell a home one. There good for seeing if you're muscular with big bones or carrying excess fat.

noeffingidea · 07/05/2018 08:23

You say you are doing weight training though which is known to skew bmi results
This is not true for women. It's very difficult for women to gain that level of lean mass, even following a dedicated bodybuilding regime.

rookiemere · 07/05/2018 08:25

Bluntness100 - I wouldn't say the images are that similar. There's definitely a bit more flesh in the OPs picture and less waist definition. Not a huge amount - if OP got down to top BMI weight for height which is about half a stone more off then wouldn't look dissimilar I think.

MiddleAgedMe · 07/05/2018 08:32

You do have a lovely figure :)

Helpmeplan · 07/05/2018 08:33

Op I am 5'5" and 10st 8lb. I am a 10. Feel fat. My problem area is belly and top of thighs.

In 2015 I went from 15st 7lb to 8st 7lb in 8 months. Using running and calorie control. Sz 6 at 8st 7lb I looked very gaunt and it did not suit me, but people have different body types so what will suit you won't necessarily suit me.

I'm trying to drop a stone at the moment so I can get into my 8's because I'm not comfortable in myself.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2018 08:41

It's interesting though, I am five foot eight and have a much lower bmi, but when you photograph up close like that, it's hard to see properly..

I'd have assumed the op was a 12 - 14 based on the image, but in reality she's fairly similar to myself, and in that image I look chunkier than i do in a full body one. Quite frankly I could be any size in that pic, it's just too hard to tell. So I'm guessing it's the same for her.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2018 08:41

Op what’s happened to all your skin? If you were obese and now aren’t, do you have much excess skin and if so could that be skewing your body image and also your weight? I’ve lost nearly 2 stones this year, but I’ll have periods of time where I don’t lose but my body shrinks, (although some loose skin is left)

In response to your question, I do think you could lose more weight, another stone? It depends on what your end goal is though. I find people tell me I’ve lots lots of weight (skinny people/family members usually) and it annoyed me no end when they did it when I was still overweight. I respond now by saying I want to be a size 6 and will do do by following a lettuce diet (neither of these are true btw) but it seems to shut them up.

chimpandzee · 07/05/2018 08:49

ScaredPAD just focus on smaller goals, half a stone at a time. It took me 3 - 4 years to lose it all and I didn't ever have a target in mind, just knew that i needed to lose a few stone. I had developed really bad comfort eating/drinking habits since my 2nd DC was born and gained most of the weight afterwards (so I couldn't blame pregnancy!). I cut out alcohol 3 or 4 nights a week, cut down portion sizes, started working out more, cut out big week night dinners so DH and I ate earlier, and ate less, tried not to eat after 6pm if I could avoid it, stopped snacking completely, some days only ate twice (big brunch, then another meal late pm / early evening, rice cakes or fruit in between if hungry). I was extremely motivated by being late 40s and the biggest I'd ever been, didn't want to let things go from bad to worse, so was very determined. I'm now in the best shape of my life, actually happier with my body than when i was in my 20s. Go for it, you can do it!

MrsDilber · 07/05/2018 08:51

I'd be happy with your figure op. But it's your body, obviously.

mishfish · 07/05/2018 08:53

I’m similar to you OP. I don’t NEED to lose weight but I’d LIKE to be more lean and toned. Is that what you’re after?

abitoflight · 07/05/2018 08:57

I completely agree with @TheGrumpySquirrel said. I'm 5'5 and had gone up to 9stone 5 and it didn't suit me so currently losing weight. 8 stone 5 is best for me so aiming for 8 stone 3 then hoping it will even out at my ideal weight.
No one thinks I need to lose weight but it's up to me what suits me.
So maybe drop another stone and then see how you feel?

mumofthemonsters808 · 07/05/2018 08:59

Congratulations on your weight loss, you've done amazing, I don't think you need to loose any more weight, if you want you could start toning your tummy and Belly Fat buster DVDs a fiver off Amazon will be your friend. Its 10 minute exercises and I did it religiously for 12 months and my tummy was flat as a pancake. It must feel great to fit into your jeans, you really have done well.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 07/05/2018 09:08

*Wow, someone was honest saying the OP had big thighs so could lose a few more lbs and the OP took offence.

Almost like the whole post is for BS goady reasons!*

Or just fishing for compliments...

PurpleDaisies · 07/05/2018 09:18

You have lovely womanly thighs plus a waist! You go in and out (as a woman should) and have definition in your abs.

Now there’s only one way a woman should look? Hmm

ScaredPAD · 07/05/2018 10:09

Or a psych research project seeing if women would encourage a perfectly normal looking woman to lose weight....
