To want to know WHAT HAPPENED!?!

Guys, I KNOW how sad this sounds but I am on maternity leave with a lot (A LOT) of time on my hands - I was following two threads which were absolutely amazing in terms of the responses - the unforgettable CF house sitting thread, and one about taking a 5 month old baby to the cinema. Went out to run errands, came home...BOTH THREADS HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOUSE SITTING SITUATION!?! DID THOSE CFS GET THE MONEY!?!

I expect to be told I have no life, this is fine Smile

Apologies for the caps lock, I am just VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE THREADS Grin

Whatcha I may be misremembering but I think there was some light for the OP of that one and she agreed for the threads to be taken down or ceased, as some kind of bargaining chip in a deal they came to.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 14/04/2018 16:11

Ah, that makes sense Enrique - I have been wondering as it seemed to be a campaign that some people got behind to get this garden done. Thanks for the update!

gildashairflick · 16/04/2018 22:08

@Aprilmightbemynewname yes - we never did get to the bottoms of the bin bags!!

Oh there have been some shockers over the years (been on MN for a very long time). The worst trolls have been the ones who go on for months and months - vampire trolls, basically, who make up harrowing stories and keep them running, and people get terribly invested and involved and then it all turns out to be bullshit. The absolute worst (about seven years ago IIRC) was one who claimed to have had her DC die. She kind of took over the bereavement board and made it all about her - she managed to get quite a 'following' of MNers who believed it all and were very sympathetic, unfortunately, as many of them were bereaved parents themselves. But she also had a tendency to take against other posters and abuse them vitriolically. And then it turned out she was a troll - the fallout from that was fairly epic.

What happened to the 16 year old who wasn't going to be allowed to stay in hospital with her baby? Can't find that thread!

Really??? Wow...although I did think the language she used was a bit mature for a 16 year old.

One where a lady was trying to secretly move to Scotland while pregnant by the man she wanted to separate from.

Poster with Lavender in her name.

How did they find out she was a troll?

Willynilly - I don't know/don't remember. Not sure MN ever gave full details. I think there was some doubt as to whether she had lost a DC or not, but part of the issue was how manipulative, goady and bullying her posts were, and then apparently it turned out she was a PBP.

There are a few (mercifully not too many) individuals who get really, really invested in their fake tragic stories and the attention they can get from piling disaster on disaster - there was another one who was spotted (I think) when someone worked out that the plot points of her story matched a classic pattern - unfaithful hubby, unplanned pregnancy, premature twins who then didn't make it - and I think it turned out that it was the same person who'd done this story in other talk groups, and that it had been proved to be bollocks there as well. ISTR part of the method that one used was sock puppets and posting on 'her' account claiming to be her husband/best friend/sister and saying that she'd disappeared or been rushed into hospital etc.

ushuaiamonamour · 20/04/2018 11:32

Dragonfree Thanks so much for the update. Pleased to hear she broke free and got into uni.

Itscurtainsforyou · 20/04/2018 17:56

Hmm. I had premature twins who didn't survive. Does this mean that no one will believe anything I say?? Hmm

ReanimatedSGB · 20/04/2018 18:00

Curtains: Of course not, and I am sorry for your loss.
My point was that premature twins with complications are often dreamed up by vampire trolls to intensify the tragic nature of their bullshit, and there are loads of other common tropes to such stories as well.

Itscurtainsforyou · 20/04/2018 18:13

Thanks.

Well I hope that anyone who makes that up never experiences it for realSad

My mobile phone for a 10yr old ended up on the DM

I didn't know journos aren't allowed to pm you. Huff post pm'ed me to ask if they could use my thread which I actually appreciated as the mirror, mail, and a bunch of other nationals from around the world didn't bother to ask.

sadiekate · 26/07/2018 02:00

I often think about @buttmonkey86. I followed her thread all the way through and really hope she's okay.
