To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

Did you say: clever WOMEN? Ahh now there's where you might find your favourite website won't help you in the future.

Men will be women. Hope that helps clear things up.

So you'll be busy chatting about lipstick with transactivists (men that say men are women) in the future and saying how uncomfortable you are getting changed with all the men with a penis in your daughter' faces, except you won't say that because it will be against the law to say a man is not a woman). That is all your political parties current thinking on self ID.

Funny ole world. If only you'd taken the opportunity to read up on what will affect you and your children whilst you had the chance.

RadioGaGoo · 22/03/2018 20:35

I'm another that initially thought there was a lot of transphobia on here until I actually throughly read through the threads and changed my mind.

phoolani · 22/03/2018 20:35

The feminism boards always have a bunch of lurkers who just wait for a new thread on anything feminism-related so they can say it all a load of tosh, they’re not silly frightened women and all the men they know are fabby.
I find that behaviour boring as fuck; I’m an atheist but I don’t hang about on the religion threads and shout THERE IS NO FUCKING GOD on every thread.
Move along if it doesn’t interest you.

Djnoun · 22/03/2018 20:36

The point is, why should we have to hide the entire feminism board just to avoid these threads?

There are dozens each day. Put them all together so they can be quietly sequestered by those of us who can see what it's really about: hate.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 22/03/2018 20:36

If you want a discussion (from either side) about self-ID and value women being heard you can sign this petition
petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

petmyunicorn · 22/03/2018 20:36

I'm a lesbian. I'm an active part of the LGBT+ community. And I think the transphobia on mumsnet is appalling and discriminatory. It's becoming awful here.

HolyGoats · 22/03/2018 20:36

I find it really interesting and am really glad MN seem to be the only place willing to let this discussion happen.

I don’t consider myself particularly political or understanding of a lot of current issues. But I would be completely ignorant of this if I hadn’t read about it here. The more I read the more depressing and scary I find it. For me, it’s summed up by the uk statistic of how many women raped people last year. When rape is defined by penetration with a penis. It’s just completely ignoring women’s issues.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 22/03/2018 20:36

I think it is by far and away the most important political issue of my lifetime. It's like we are going backwards in terms of women's rights. And it's terrifying. It's even more terrifying that so many women seem to think it's boring

I agree. The complacency is shocking and people bragging about how much they're 'rolling my eyes' over this 'boring' subject is incredible.

TheBrilliantMistake · 22/03/2018 20:37

Perhaps it's just symptomatic of something that concerns many people. It's a reflection of what matters to people / hot topic etc.
There's an argument that some particularly pro-active feminists might find it a much more concerning issue than other women, but if it's within the feminism area, what's the problem?

Evidently it's quite a big deal for a lot of women. More so than Ant McPartlin's recent issues etc.

Fairenuff · 22/03/2018 20:37

If people just said, yes, ok you have some valid points, let's discuss this, there would be no need for all the threads. If women didn't have to raise a petition just to get their legal rights even considered, no one would be talking about it.

AnyFucker · 22/03/2018 20:37

It's what I like about MN

Tough titty

Bejazzled · 22/03/2018 20:37

Thank goodness mumsnet allow debate. There's some in here could learn a thing from that.

AccidentalKylie · 22/03/2018 20:38

saying how uncomfortable you are getting changed with all the men with a penis in your daughter' faces

Is that what you do in the changing rooms, shove your genitals in peoples' faces?

I just get changed.

StopPOP · 22/03/2018 20:38

It's a massive issue so of course it's going to be discussed lots Hmm

Or you can hide the board.
Or you could scroll past.
Or you could leave.

Or you could start a thread on it, thereby in a round about way, add to it. Top work! Reverse psychology at it's BEST Grin

MrsJoshDun · 22/03/2018 20:38

It’s not about transphobia. It’s about self ID and erosion of women’s rights. There’s even trans women speaking up who are against Self ID.

HesterShaw · 22/03/2018 20:38

I can honestly not understand why some of you lot remain unconcerned about this. How can any woman say they find women's rights "boring"?

mathanxiety · 22/03/2018 20:38

Yes, and all you see in the Relationships board is harpies who hate men cheering on the sistas to LTB. That's such a bore too.

Won't somebody think about the menz!

g1itterati · 22/03/2018 20:38

MN did move a trans thread from AIBU to "petitions and activism" today.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/03/2018 20:39

Well happily mnhq isn’t hiding the posts away in a separate topic. Long may that continue. It’s too important. If you don’t want to read don’t open the threads. Quite simple really.

dekfiji · 22/03/2018 20:39

@Rainboho Grin

FlakyToast · 22/03/2018 20:39

The government is considering changing the definition of "woman" and a website devoted to women who have mostly used their uteruses, ovaries and vaginas to create humans are a bit concerned about no longer meeting the definition nor being asked their opinion on it what a massive fucking surprise.

Ihatemyclients · 22/03/2018 20:40

Come on @MNHQ - a trans board is what this site needs. The people who want to have those discussions can find them all in one place, and those of us who don't want to can avoid them entirely. Everyone is happy, no one is silenced, it's a perfect solution. There are far more trans threads than 'is this nice' threads and the latter just got given their own board!

petmyunicorn · 22/03/2018 20:40

First there was a debate about racial equality.

Once that was on the way to being sorted, the debate about sexuality came to the fire.

Once marriage equality happened, I knew people debating transgender issues would be the next thing.

Mumsnet condoning this is equivalent to condoning racism or homophobia. It's on the wrong side of history.

PiggyPoos · 22/03/2018 20:40

What I can't fathom is constantly reading things that are boring you then complaining you are bored.

Eh?

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 20:40

Nice busy thread too. We all need to keep talking about it so like i said thanks op. Youre really helping the cause Smile
