To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

Apart from the misleading opening post, it is an important topical subject, - why shouldn’t it be discussed at great length. It should. Long may it continue.

OutsideContextProblem · 22/03/2018 20:19

You can easily hide Feminism Chat.

Fluffymcflufftown · 22/03/2018 20:20

I am greatful to the feminism board for making me aware of the whole notion of self-ID. It has made me question a lot of things that I took for granted and had made assumptions about.
I appreciate that it can seem repetitive and intrusive on the main board. I think it's because there seems to be a lot more general mainstream chatter about the issues that we want to discuss so naturally new threads are started when something in real life / in the news comes up.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 22/03/2018 20:20

It's hard to ignore it. They are in every topic a hundred times a day.

And anyone who mentions it is anti women and told to fuck off elsewhere

It's too much

MorningsEleven · 22/03/2018 20:21

Grand, but can we at least keep the trans threads in feminism instead of everywhere?

JennyJames · 22/03/2018 20:21

I used to love Mumsnet, it was full of intelligent women debating all sorts. Now you’re all chatting about your PFBs and Schools. It’s become such a single issue site. MNHQ need to tackle this.

How do you hide the boards? I don't want to see it either

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 20:23

God forbid women talk about important issues that will affect women. Just hide the threads and bury your heads in the parking threads and all that other unimportant bollocks. Dont complain when the next issue comes up that women are silenced over.

StarsAndWater · 22/03/2018 20:23

I used to find all the trans threads on MN frustrating and transphobic, but then I spent a little time looking into it on my own and had an 'Oh shit' moment.
We are at risk of losing a huge amount of the rights women have fought for, and the amount of misogynistic abuse and violence both online and off being thrown at women, and lesbians in particular is horrifying.
There is a reason so many women are very, very worried.
But don't take my word for it, google 'cotton ceiling' or put 'terf' into the search bar on Twitter and decide for yourself.

CuthbertDibble · 22/03/2018 20:23

I’m definitely not ‘rolling my eyes and moving on’ many of the recent threads on here have opened my eyes and made me realise what’s going on. Thank you for that, I’m glad I’ve been made aware of the issues that females are now facing.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 22/03/2018 20:23

Totally agree with you treacle

Fairenuff · 22/03/2018 20:24

Grand, but can we at least keep the trans threads in feminism instead of everywhere?

Blimey that's a bit transphobic Shock

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 22/03/2018 20:24

I agree OP, I think it has become unhealthy now.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/03/2018 20:25

Yeah ladies stop debating the erosion of our hard won rights in society. Sooooo boring jeeze 🙄

AccidentalKylie · 22/03/2018 20:25

Are there any other feminist issues which have been given the level of airtime as 'self ID' (which no one here seems to understand, because all the 'THERE'S A BOY IN THE GIRLS BATHROOM!!' bollocks is already happening and has been for years).

OP posts:
Tinkobell · 22/03/2018 20:26

Not true. There was a great thread last week about intelligent, funny women farting into toilet tissue - refreshingly uncerebral and thoroughly juvenile! 😀

Hide the boards....best thing I ever Did!

Ihatemyclients · 22/03/2018 20:27

Totally agree. Every day there are two or three new threads rehashing the same points over and over. It's unbelievably tedious.

MyLittleVespa · 22/03/2018 20:28

What Rainboho said.

In answer to the OP I am grateful for the T threads, hugely so. Thank you Thanks dear feminist sisters.

Fairenuff · 22/03/2018 20:28

'THERE'S A BOY IN THE GIRLS BATHROOM!!'

Don't you mean a GIRL in the girls bathroom?

Transphobic misgendering right there Shock

PiggyPoos · 22/03/2018 20:28

I never cease to wonder why people can't scroll past threads that disinterest them.

Is it so very difficult?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 22/03/2018 20:28

Any woman who thinks that the issue of gender self-ID is tedious and unnecessary is missing the fact that it is the biggest political and personal threat to women in my lifetime.

However, as other have said, no-one is holding a gun to your heads forcing you to read this stuff. Just don't click onto the feminist chat board or threads from that board. Easy really.

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 20:28

The great thing is op, the more threads people start about it, the more people get curious and eventually peaktrans. So thanks for your help Smile

Djnoun · 22/03/2018 20:29

I've already asked, and I know others have asked to, for it to be given its own topic so the rest of us don't have to put up with it. But MN have totally ignored the requests.

It's the hateful tone that the threads take. The raising of the subject is nothing but an excuse to trans bash.

To me, it's like reading homophobia. It is genuinely upsetting.
