To think Mumsnet is OBSESSED

I used to read Mumsnet because it was a lot of clever, funny women talking about stuff I was interested in, but it's become a one issue forum. It's exhausting.

Maybe start a lighthearted fun thread yourself then rather than wait for someone else to entertain you God forbid women are allowed to talk about an issue that’s a threat to women’s rights as opposed to important work like entertaining chit chat

MrsJoshDun · 22/03/2018 20:29

I can promise you people do understand the issue of self ID. With your comments about “there’s a boy in the girls bathroom” it sounds like you don’t understand the issue. Perhaps reading some of the threads would be of benefit to you?

SmufOrTerf · 22/03/2018 20:29

Are there any other feminist issues that are as important ?

Thank you mumsnet.

C0untDucku1a · 22/03/2018 20:29

Wow. So trans activists shut down women who speak out against the erosion of the rights and identity of women.

And women on mumsnet now distort the truth to shut down women discussing the erosion of yhe rights and identity of women.

Why not write the truth op? The feminism board is full of threads discussing womens rights. Why lie?

Or even, why in gods name would you start yet another thread about it to complain about all the threads about it?!

AnyFucker · 22/03/2018 20:29

I would say porn has been debated at least as much as trans issues

Have a go at that instead ?

PiggyPoos · 22/03/2018 20:30

You'd have to read them to know that they are rehashing.

So why do it?

I'm grateful for them, it's an important issue with not many places to speak about.

Ihatemyclients · 22/03/2018 20:30

Totally stupid argument to point out that the pic is of the feminism boards btw. Trans rights are very nearly the only issue ever debated on the feminism board and even boards about other things are often brought round to trans issues. Judging by MN you'd think trans rights was literally the only subject feminists were allowed to discuss. MNers are obsessed with transwomen.

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 20:31

Maybe op is secretly a feminist too? And wants to help open a few more eyes to the ways in which women are being aggressively silenced in britain in 2018 Smile

RoseAndRose · 22/03/2018 20:31

The feminism board has become very dull of late. Single issue, and proselytising. I think it is a great shame that it has become so colonised.

MrsJoshDun · 22/03/2018 20:31

Wow, I would say it’s the opposite of homophobia.

You could argue that actually it’s the trans rights activists who are homophobic. I’ve seen trans identifying men saying that lesbians should be prepared to have sex with them and their penis and that the said lesbian is transphobic if she declines this offer.

BerkInBag · 22/03/2018 20:31

I think it's a very important issue that needs to be discussed and unfortunately this is one of the only places that concerned women can talk frankly without being shut down.

MorningsEleven · 22/03/2018 20:31

@Fairenuff

Sorry, I maybe didn't make myself clear. I'm sick of transphobia on Mumsnet. If it were all confined to one area I could avoid it.

Bejazzled · 22/03/2018 20:32
  1. Hide the feminism board
  1. Don't start another thread talking about the thing that you don't want to see people talking about
Ihatemyclients · 22/03/2018 20:32

@Djnoun totally agree with you. I've asked this loads of times. Surprised MN haven't done it since it's very clearly now the number one thing this site exists to discuss!

MrsJoshDun · 22/03/2018 20:32

Well yes, the OP has done a good job of adding a trans thread to AIBU

g1itterati · 22/03/2018 20:32

I agree that there is a hardcore anti-trans culture on MN and it's odious. They argue gender is a purely social construct - fluid and bearing no relation whatsoever to biology. Then they explode into paranoia and bigotry at the prospect of a minuscule percentage of men who may potentially take this concept of "gender fluidity" to its extreme.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/03/2018 20:33

You mean certain posters on MN are obsessed and not MNHQ?

Always baffles me why it's such an issue on a parenting forum.

The beauty of the internet is you can pick and choose what to read.
This is a forum with a majority of women posters, if a large number of women feel they are being publically attacked and erased then of course there will be discussion.

Meek won’t get us anywhere.

bonnyshide · 22/03/2018 20:33

Can you hide a whole topic? Or does it have to be each individual thread?

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 22/03/2018 20:33

I am grateful for the T threads. If it wasn't for MN I would have had no awareness of just how significant the self ID issue is for women.

MiniMum97 · 22/03/2018 20:34

I agree. Think Mumsnet needs to step in. It's getting ridiculous now.

BiologyMatters · 22/03/2018 20:34

Well gender IS a social construct. It has no basis in science.

TerfingHell · 22/03/2018 20:34

2. Don't start another thread talking about the thing that you don't want to see people talking about

PMSL!

MsHarry · 22/03/2018 20:34

Agree.
