Anyone else got serious cabin fever being stuck in due to snow?

So we're all stuck in the house, Dh working from home, 3.5 yr old off nursery and me...slowly going mad! Have been baking, colouring etc..but dd has spent a lot of time watching t.v so am feeling guilty. May brave the -4 outside and take her for a walk. Anyone else feeling like they're going crazy? Praying that there's no more snow tomorrow!

I'm counting down to OH's arrival home (which in theory could be anybloodytime given the train situation) when I can open some wine and fester in my loungewear.

Sallystyle · 01/03/2018 17:32

I have been to work today, so no cabin fever, but I wish I did have it.

The weather is - something or other but with feel like temperatures of -11. I had to go outside for work and it was so cold my legs hurt the second I went outside. I popped outside for less than a minute without gloves on and my hands got cold and sore.

I am not in until Sunday now and I hope I don't have to leave the house until then. By Sunday I imagine I will be wanting to get out again though.

Summerdays2014 · 01/03/2018 17:34

I’ve spent the whole day in with my just turned two year old (apart from two stints of playing in the snow before he got too cold)
On a normal day we do a class/play group in the mornings and then park/soft play etc on the afternoon. I have been itching to get our all day. All my son wants to do is play trains. I’ve had nearly 11 hours of it as he is incapable of playing on his own for more than 5 mins! I practically threw him at my husband when he walked in 10 minutes ago. I live on a hill and stupidly didn’t leave the car at the bottom of it last night.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 17:35

Yes it is supposed to feel like minus 11 here. Went out wrapped up and wearing gloves.

Redglitter · 01/03/2018 17:37

Could be worse. I'm in hospital. Have been without visitors for 2 days. Food supplies can't get in so the meals are becoming a joke. Wish I was home to be bored

Sallystyle · 01/03/2018 17:38

Kids love playing in snow.

No playing in snow for mine today. It's just icey and the paths are now dangerously slippery .

The wind is horrendous.

I wouldn't be leaving the house today unless it was necessary. Of course it depends on where you live, but here it's just bloody dangerous.

catstring · 01/03/2018 17:39

'I never understand people...' and just end the sentence there. Because that's the point. Not understanding people. Not being able to imagine another's life different to your own. I get that some people love the snow, are hardier in the snow, enjoy time off etc. But I also understand that some struggle mentally, financially, physically.
What if you have physical difficulties, can't afford winter clothes etc?
I would also argue that use of the word cunt, whilst not absolutely necessary, is well within the realms of normality. My hashtag did not make me fancy but it did make me chortle so your criticism had little affect.

Fadingmemory · 01/03/2018 17:40

Walked round the park this morning - foul conditions, blizzard. Lasted 30 minutes - usually an outdoor type. Had a nap, made bread. Glad of Netflix.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 17:42

I suspect you're smarting a little. But that's okay. Perfectly normal.

catstring · 01/03/2018 17:45

How's the empathy going Squoosh? Out for a positively, bracing blizzardly walk to find it in the snow?

Sallystyle · 01/03/2018 17:46

Yes it is supposed to feel like minus 11 here. Went out wrapped up and wearing gloves.

I almost fell over getting out of my car into my house.

My side road is like a bloody death trap right now.

Schools are closed again tomorrow due to the ice. Hopefully it will all clear soon as I have had enough of it.

I don't do cold well. I can't handle it.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 17:46

Awww. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 17:47

Why is that the people who like to call other people cunts straight off the bat are the ones who turn out to be so sensitive? Total mystery.

catstring · 01/03/2018 17:52

Erm no feelings hurt here Hmm
Where did you get that impression? I like to speak up for those that might find the smugness a little disheartening and reassure them, they aren't the only ones.

acquiesce · 01/03/2018 17:53

ABSOLUTELY. Hate being stuck in, we always try to do something each day (playgroup, swimming, soft play) me and DS get so stir crazy being stuck in the house. We tried to play outside in the snow but the wind is vile and painful so we came in after two minutes.
We are all really lucky to be able to be stir crazy in a warm house though, we live in a city with a big homeless population and it just breaks my heart to think of people out on the streets in weather like this.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 17:59

Smile

I like to speak up for the cunts! They might find some of the ragier posts a little tiresome.

HunterofStars · 01/03/2018 18:06

Actually I've changed my mind about staying in until Monday. I tidied up my cupboard and found my wellies that I bought last year and had an urge to go for a walk round the block.

I ended up walking for an hour and have just got in. You could still see the grass when I left but now it's starting to get worse.

I might go out again tomorrow for a walk but I'll check tomorrow morning. If visability isn't good then I won't risk it.

HunterofStars · 01/03/2018 18:08

Although I do have sympathy for those who are snowed in. Wine Brew Cake Gin Flowers

Ohyesiam · 01/03/2018 18:11

I'd murder someone of I stayed in, but luckily there's lots of lovely snow outside. Went walking this morning, sledging this afternoon.
Isn't your little one clamouring to get out in it op?

juddyrockingcloggs · 01/03/2018 18:12

We went out from about 8.30 til 1pm when we came back for lunch and then went back out again after lunch. Walked about a mile to the nearest big hill to sledge both times. I absolutely love this wintery weather, I would have it 365 days a year if we could. We've had two days off now but it looks like it's the Wests turn now and unless we get another snowfall tonight it looks like it'll be back to school and work tomorrow - boo.

dementedma · 01/03/2018 18:58

jaded staying at home with my family means being stuck in a small flat with a husband who sniffs constantly and just watches football on the computer or tv all day, a teenager glued to his xbox and an adult daughter who has MH issues and mostly refuses to talk to anyone.
Pjs. hot chocolate, board games and snuggles sounds peachy for you but it isn't everyone's reality. Work is where I go to get away from here to interact with pleasant, interesting humans and two days stuck in is boring me to tears.

pictish · 01/03/2018 18:59

Juddy I hope you understand that you have flouted the unquestionable expertise of the Government today.

catstring · 01/03/2018 19:06

That's great juddyrockingcloggs - But I presume you have enough imagination to understand why it might not be like this for everyone?

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 01/03/2018 19:41

Well, I managed to skid into town with the pushchair - had no idea what a bitch those things are to push through snow!

Even better, DP came home and managed to persuade our toddler out in the snow. Which meant him knocking down my attempts at a snowman, refusing to try his new sledge and insisting on us pushing his Cozy Coupe through the snow snowmobile-style, but it was so nice to see him enjoy the snow at last.

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 01/03/2018 19:44

I totally get that we were lucky enough to be in a position to enjoy it though! Very lucky indeed to have MIL on the mend and DP home in view of the weather forecast where MIL lives...
