Anyone else got serious cabin fever being stuck in due to snow?

So we're all stuck in the house, Dh working from home, 3.5 yr old off nursery and me...slowly going mad! Have been baking, colouring etc..but dd has spent a lot of time watching t.v so am feeling guilty. May brave the -4 outside and take her for a walk. Anyone else feeling like they're going crazy? Praying that there's no more snow tomorrow!

orry tinky, looks like the only thing to do when the government advises you stay in is to go out, lest you look like a sheep. After all there are literally no weather conditions that would make that a genuinely silly idea; you're just not trying hard enough!

This is it! and why we see footage of morons going windsurfing in hurricanes like last time, and endangering the people who have to go and save the stupid fuckers!

Well our power has just gone out as well, so we are kinda fucked. I suppose we should be outside building an igloo or something though?

SinceWhenDid · 01/03/2018 15:53

Unless your kids are unwell then totally fine to go outside and play even in a blizzard.

One of the best parts is coming back in again and warming up with hot chocolate and blankets on the sofa. And no need to feel guilty about tv when you've been out playing Grin

Small kids around here regularly spend a whole day out on a mountain in blizzards and minus 20 windchill.

DavetheCat2001 · 01/03/2018 15:54

Mine went outside for about 6 minutes before the bickering and yells of 'MUMMMMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! he/she did this/that..blah blah'

Then they wanted to come in, arguing ensued again..DS crying because I wouldn't put My Little Pony on (long story), so have the Lego covering the entire floor, and DD doing her very best to wind DS up and get the bickering going again..

QuestionableMouse · 01/03/2018 16:15

Yes, I am. We've had almost constant snow all day and there's at least 8 inches on the floor. It's also never been above freezing all day.

Doesn't help that I'm stranded at my uni accommodation; the A19 is basically impassible and even if wasn't, the road into my village is blocked off. No trains stopping at my main station, and as far as I can tell, no busses running either.

UndomesticHousewife · 01/03/2018 16:17

There’s not a lot of snow yet where I am but there’s gale force winds you couldn’t actually be outside if you wanted to.
Luckily I’ve been able to go out so far (in the car) but I love being snowed in.

Sanderz · 01/03/2018 16:20

I raided the cupboards for anything that could entertain the toddler, who's bored of everything after three days at home. Found some potatoes and made some potato-printing cut out stamps - big pat on the back for me!

...two minutes of potato painting in, "I'm finished now, mummy".

TV's back on again.

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 01/03/2018 16:23

That sounds hideous. I live in northern New England and I didn't send my small children out in those conditions but then they didn't generally last that long. Does it genuinely just not stop blizzarding where you are?

TheInvisiblePieceofShit · 01/03/2018 16:24

Yes bored to tears. I've been home ill for 3 weeks with that awful virus. Im still a bit weak and wobbly do only been out a few times this week.
I've run out of TV stuff to watch and am spook bored!

MashLover · 01/03/2018 16:42

The snow is so bad here. Can't really have to kids outside today as the snow is just too deep. It comes up to their waists and we've basically had a blizzard the whole day. Did get them out for a little while but I had to clear a path in the garden for them to be able to actually walk. Schools been closed the last two days and also tomorrow. Main road out of the village has been closed. Not far from here, ther have been snow drifts of 8ft (we live in the sticks and I've seen pictures) we always get a lot of snow here but I've never seen anything like this before.

catstring · 01/03/2018 16:46

I do wish the 'my two year old played out all day in minus 12 degree blizzard cunts would fuck off.
I'm in Scotland. A red alert area. Severe wind chill/blizzarding/snow drift. All three of my hardy kids have been out intermittently - sledging/making igloos etc. I even went for a 10 mile run early doors this am, so we are hardly wimps. But these activities aren't going to take up a whole fucking day now are they? Unless your kid has reindeer skin and was born on a fucking polar ice cap?
So quit your smug crap and admit that some degree of boredom and cabin fever is entirely normal and stop using internet sites to try and make yourself feel better about your own failings.

GeminiRising · 01/03/2018 16:46

@LaGattaNera

Live in south Pembrokeshire. We are supposed to be getting hit from 5pm tonight. It's blowing a hoolie out there at the mo and there's a few flakes starting now. Don't think we're going to get anything like the rest of the country though!

speakout · 01/03/2018 16:47

MashLover same here.
Far too deep for kids to play, strong bitterly cold winds, drifts up to 4 ft deep, icicles like huge swords of 3 feet off every building.

It's dangerous outside.

SinceWhenDid · 01/03/2018 16:48

Does it genuinely just not stop blizzarding where you are?

Sorry that was badly worded. We live in a skiing area and children will be up skiing in those conditions. It isn't that bad all the time, but it is scottish skiing so... Grin

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 16:49

Yeah and when I were a kid I spent 27 hours a day down t'mine and had gravel for dinner. Jog the fuck on.

mollied · 01/03/2018 16:50

Wrap up and go and play in the snow!

PlaymobilPirate · 01/03/2018 16:50

Yes - bored to tears! And it's making us lazy. I've seen loads on Insta saying 'we've done xyz' #snowday

Dp and ds have watched loads of telly, ive crocheted a scarf.... not much else!

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 16:53

Wrap up and go and play in the snow!

Or, you know, don't/ Hmm

rocketgirl22 · 01/03/2018 16:56

It is -5c with a windchill of -14c needless to say they were back inside after 5 minutes even with full ski wear it is just too cold. They played in the snow all day every day in Dec, but it is so bitter and raw.

Not bored yet though, as just baked 40 cakes (eaten 9 already between us and the dogs!)

Moving onto movie time

Can see cabin fever kicking in around midday tomorrow unless it warms up a little. There are zero children outside, and usually there are loads of little ones playing in the snow outside.

SimplyJaded · 01/03/2018 16:58

I really don't get a LOT of people on this thread.

All this OMG-we've-been-stuck-in-for-a-whole-eight-hours-and-it's-driving-me-mad stuff Hmm

Just - why? Don't you ever like to chill out at home? We're a very 'outdoorsy' family...the dc play sports in rain or shine, we hike, we camp, we go out with a picnic to the mountains and stay there for ten hours, we ski, we climb and so on.

But life is busy and every so often it's bloody lovely to have a day (or a couple) in. It so rarely happens I have loved today, as have dh and the dc. PJ's, films, probably a bit too much XBox for the bigger ones, a lovely family dinner, board games, a bit too much chocolate tonight.

Why do so many find it so hard to just relax in their homes?

SinceWhenDid · 01/03/2018 16:58

If it was me you're calling a cunt (thank you btw it is one of my favourite words) then please read where I said that coming back in and watching TV is the best bit Grin

Not suggesting being out all day (though see above as it does happen) and what you did today sounds exactly like what we would do. Though I might send mine out by themselves...

In a way you're agreeing with me that red weather warning is no reason to not take kids out at all.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 17:00

Christ almighty. Some really angry fucks on this thread.

SinceWhenDid · 01/03/2018 17:01

Jog the fuck on

The cabin fever really is taking hold Grin

Can I trot out the line now about no bad weather just bad clothes?

rocketgirl22 · 01/03/2018 17:02

Simplyjaded

Maybe some of the posts on here have been at home for three days, that will very different to the one lovely duvet day you are describing.

Day 3 and everyone is bored, wanting to get back to normal and yes running low on food etc. I am not sure it is quite so fun when you are looking at day four and possibly five...

A bracing walk might be lovely if you are in an area where it is not quite so cold, but there is a red alert here and it is absolutely baltic.

rocketgirl22 · 01/03/2018 17:05

sincewhen

Grin

Jog the fuck on made me laugh out loud. That is cabin fever alright, and she/he is just about to blow so watch out Grin

SinceWhenDid · 01/03/2018 17:05

Squoosh - I forgive them, it's only the cabin fever talking!*

*please forgive me for being lighthearted. I do know the pain of being stuck in with small children. And when you do go out you spend 20 minutes getting their snow suits, gloves etc on. Then it us all "I need a wee!" So everything comes off. Back on again then out for five minutes then they start whingeing that they're cold so you come back in and then need to find somewhere to put all the ducking wet stuff!
