Anyone else got serious cabin fever being stuck in due to snow?

So we're all stuck in the house, Dh working from home, 3.5 yr old off nursery and me...slowly going mad! Have been baking, colouring etc..but dd has spent a lot of time watching t.v so am feeling guilty. May brave the -4 outside and take her for a walk. Anyone else feeling like they're going crazy? Praying that there's no more snow tomorrow!

Sounds like heaven Katmarie Smile

squoosh · 01/03/2018 14:34

Just get out and enjoy it. What do people in countries with properly harsh winters do?

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 14:35

So I would say get outside and enjoy the snow

Some of us have been told by the government to stay inside. There is an epic storm coming, fgs! Heavy snowfall and gusts of up to 110km! Can you stop with the Go build a bloody snowman stuff? It's lethal out there/1

Yes. Tomorrow is the third day that the schools are off.
Tried a walk this morning, but blizzards and drifts up to 4 ft, I actually felt unsafe. Driving is impossible, I can't get the car out.

At least we have heating and plenty food, so we are OK.

GeminiRising · 01/03/2018 14:40

Don't have any snow here yet at all!

LaGattaNera · 01/03/2018 14:41

oh Gemini I was wondering if anyone in UK was snow-free, whereabouts are you? Have you got some coming your way later or tomorrow?

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 14:42

You think that is funny squoosh? Last time we had the same warning three people died here because they didn't listen.

Very fucking funny. Hmm

silkpyjamasallday · 01/03/2018 14:43

18 month old DD and I have just woken from a 2 and a half hour nap. It was blissful, wondering what to do with the rest of the day now, I'm sick of CBeebies. We've taken her out the past few days but she doesn't like the cold, can't walk in the snow properly as it's too deep and whines to be picked up and put down constantly. The pram can't get through the snow and walking carrying her is dangerous. She is going to be a tantrummy nightmare by the weekend and the snow doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon.

AztecBanana · 01/03/2018 14:44

I trudged for an hour through a blizzard to get to work this morning, only to find I was the only one in my department to show up (most people commute from longer distances).

The snow was a bit of a novelty at first, but now I am fed up and feeling miserable at making the same journey tomorrow. I won't be paid otherwise.

pictish · 01/03/2018 14:44

I’d get cabin fever if I just stayed indoors. There’s nothing stopping you going out and I’m glad you did...it’s only snow. We’ve been sledging, shopping for supplies on foot and are about to go exploring through the country estate over the road before it gets dark.

“Some of us have been told by the government to stay inside.”

Oh that’s brilliant. Better do what the government tell you then...ha ha! Grin

squoosh · 01/03/2018 14:44

Oh calm yourself. Yes I did find it funny. You made it sound as though an elite few had received a knock on the door from May or one of her pals.

amusedbush · 01/03/2018 14:45

Work closed yesterday just after 9am and is closed today and tomorrow. As much as I like being off work, I'm definitely going a bit stir crazy! The snow is terrible here so I can't even go out and do anything. The house has never been so clean Grin

Stompythedinosaur · 01/03/2018 14:46

Just get out and enjoy it. What do people in countries with properly harsh winters do?

We have been out today, but the snow is chest deep on my 6 year old and nearly to the shoulders of my 4 year old. We are well equipped with snow gear, but still!

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 14:47

Oh that’s brilliant. Better do what the government tell you then...ha ha! grin
Yes, because potential for death is hilarious. WTF is wrong with you?

Wrong government. www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/people-urged-to-stay-indoors-as-blizzard-set-to-threaten-life-and-limb-1.3411319

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has warned the “risk to life and limb should not be underestimated” as severe blizzard-like conditions spread across the country

Is people dying a joke to you?

SingaSong12 · 01/03/2018 14:48

What do people in countries with properly harsh winters do?

If winter is bad every year it is worth Councils investing in heavy duty ploughing equipment. People will accept requirements for snow tires.

I remember that was more regular when I was young. If Councils in the U.K. (except areas that do regularly get snow) did this and there was little snow for a couple of years local news would be reporting how they have wasted money while cutting other things that are actually needed.

It is financially viable or essential to build infrastructure that works for very could weather. In Minneapolis which gets very cold and very hot there are skywalkways between the buildings and car parking under ground so not necessary to be outside.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 14:49

Is people dying a joke to you?

No. But your ridiculous rage is quite amusing. And fyi the snow is far worse where I am, so nerr!

I ignored the door when the government came a-knockin'.

Garmadonsmum · 01/03/2018 14:49

We’ve just been to local park to sledge. Five minute walk at most. Lots of children sledging gaily with parents. Mine moan and complain the whole time. It’s too cold, the snow is in their boots, the hill isn’t slippy enough. The hill is too slippy. The only one complaining more was my dh. And I’ve another day of this tomorrow and then the weekend. FML

Katkincake · 01/03/2018 14:50

Booooored and stir crazy and we've walked down the hill to get provisions and had a play in snow. As I'd booked the day off anyway DH is "working" from home ( I work from home normally, he is deffo not working!) and nagging at me when 3yr old DS goes to find him for a chat.

There will be a battle tomorrow for who's on leave and who's working,as we're bound to snowed in for a 3rd consecutive day as amber warning overnight Sad

pictish · 01/03/2018 14:50

There’s nothing wrong with me. Or my ability to think for myself. What the fuck makes ‘the government’ better equipped to decide on conditions in my locality than me? Don’t be ridiculous. If anyone died it’s not because they didn’t listen to ‘the government’.

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 14:50

No. But your ridiculous rage is quite amusing. And fyi the snow is far worse where I am, so nerr!

It's not rage and its not ridiculous. You are an epic gom.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 14:51

Amadán is tusa.

pictish · 01/03/2018 14:52

And you are an epic sheep.

Wooooh ‘the government’.
