Anyone else got serious cabin fever being stuck in due to snow?

So we're all stuck in the house, Dh working from home, 3.5 yr old off nursery and me...slowly going mad! Have been baking, colouring etc..but dd has spent a lot of time watching t.v so am feeling guilty. May brave the -4 outside and take her for a walk. Anyone else feeling like they're going crazy? Praying that there's no more snow tomorrow!

*outside

Musicalstatues · 01/03/2018 13:38

Ds3 has just watched tv all day and I don’t care! We had to do the school run this morning and he cried for about an hour because he was just so cold. I’m on weather watch and stressed because dh is several hours from home and not sure what he is planning to do. School run again in a bit. Oh please be closed tomorrow!!!

DenPerry · 01/03/2018 13:38

We love being snowed in, but it's normal for us to stay in a lot together as DP works from home and I am a SAHM. Yes there is a lot of TV being watched but no guilt here Grin Been on a few short walks to enjoy the snow before it disappears.

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/03/2018 13:39

Go and play outside! Dp and I put our wellies on and have gone for a walk into town and had brunch.

DenPerry · 01/03/2018 13:40

Sorry forgot to add, but DS not enjoying the walks as it's windy and blowing snow in his face so he'd rather be indoors.

PurplePotatoes · 01/03/2018 13:47

Yes. DS (1) is full of cold and really not himself so don't want to take him outside as it's so bitterly cold and windy out there. I was hoping DD (4) would want to make a snowman while he naps as she usually loves snow but she has declared it too cold and doesn't want to go out either ! I'm just sat eating too many jaffa cakes while she paints/makes pictures and watches Beauty and the Beast. Bored!

We just took our 3 year old out to the park. We had a little ride on a sledge, threw a few snowballs and went on the swings (at her insistence - brr). After about 45 minutes we were chilled to the core and glad to come back in but it was good to get out.

TheSconeOfStone · 01/03/2018 13:58

I wish. Stuck in the office watching the blizzard blow in worrying about getting home. Kids with my parents as school shut. I’d absolutely love to be home with the kids right now.

FluffyWuffy100 · 01/03/2018 14:01

Snow day? Wrap them up super duper warm and get them outside in the garden! Or a nearby park if you don't have a garden. Or even on the pavement if you don't live near a park. Kids love playing in snow.

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 01/03/2018 14:06

Me! DS (2) has had a stomach bug all week. Have been home alone with him as DP has had to go down to MIL who was rushed into hospital.

Today is the first day all week I've been prepared to risk more than a run round the corner for more Calpol and wet wipes, so we've been into town despite the blizzard. He slept through the whole trip under his pushchair cover so hopefully minimal exposure for other people...but no supermarket deliveries here before Sat and we needed more supplies so not much choice.

Wish I could get him out in the snow but he's like our cat - very suspicious of the white stuff and refuses point blank to play in it Grin.

Not in a blizzard they don't! Where I am its -11 and a red alert with high winds and still snowing. WTF would I be doing bringing small children out in that?

Why do people feel guilty about kids watching TV?

crackerjacket · 01/03/2018 14:10

You just can't win with some people.

squirrelonapetridish · 01/03/2018 14:17

We braved it, dd enjoyed it until her hands got wet and cold then wanted to come home. Feeling a lot better for getting out even if it was freezing! It's like Siberia out there.

We have a blizzard here.

Are people seriously suggesting I take my toddler out in that?

SimplyJaded · 01/03/2018 14:17

Good lord no.

This is day one for us where school is closed but there's no snow yet. I have zero desire to step foot outside here, the 'feels like' temp is -10 ATM!

I haven't even got dressed today. There's cawl in the slow cooker, cake for afters, the heating's up full and I'm about to go for a bath whilst the big dc play on the Xbox and the little one naps.

LOVE a no-snow snow day. Full day of cosy relaxation without having to take the ankle biters out to play in the snow - win 😁

Kursk · 01/03/2018 14:18

As a former Brit now living in the USA. The current weather in the UK is a mild winters day to us now. So I would say get outside and enjoy the snow.

When DS had his first car. DH had him outside practicing changing the tire in a -11 blizzard. “Because you won’t get a flat tire in a warm cosey garage.”

FilthyforFirth · 01/03/2018 14:19

I envy you OP, at least your is old enough to do crafts and games with! Stuck in all week with my 8 month old. He is also teething so not easy to settle, I miss our baby classes!

Bumdishcloths · 01/03/2018 14:19

With wind chill it's about -8 here. As much as I want to get out, it would be irresponsible to take my 5 month old out in it regardless of how bundled up I get him.

katmarie · 01/03/2018 14:19

Stuck indoors with a newborn, and two dogs, both of whom are wimps when it comes to the cold, and who are basically making the most of the underfloor heating which means I keep tripping over them.

The baby and I are marathoning Netflix and snuggling under blankets.

VileyRose · 01/03/2018 14:20

So bored :(

Bumdishcloths · 01/03/2018 14:22

And yes it's always worse in places like the US but we're not used to it.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/03/2018 14:24

Yes, me! We have been snowed in since Tuesday (like, feet of snow piled up against the door and windows).

Luckily one of the neighbours braved the snow to walk her two kids across to play, so the kids are entertained.

Looks like we'll be in until at least Saturday.

mamamalt · 01/03/2018 14:24

I would normally be very gung ho about going out anyway but the wind chill here is -10. Not suitable for a one year old I think! So far we've only been stuck in this morning and I'm already crazy bored. WineWine

dementedma · 01/03/2018 14:26

bored stiff here. sideways blizzards all day and bitterly cold. Can't see for more than a few feet so no going outside. Looks like more of the same tomorrow.......bored, bored, bored!

LaGattaNera · 01/03/2018 14:32

Better to be bored and safe. Weather is horrid most places and accidents can happen so easily.
