Anyone else got serious cabin fever being stuck in due to snow?

So we're all stuck in the house, Dh working from home, 3.5 yr old off nursery and me...slowly going mad! Have been baking, colouring etc..but dd has spent a lot of time watching t.v so am feeling guilty. May brave the -4 outside and take her for a walk. Anyone else feeling like they're going crazy? Praying that there's no more snow tomorrow!

Okay zero visibility blizzard is not going out weather.
Can't find any pictures or details on line of zero visibility blizzards, only photos of people walking about in very heavy snow with wind.

Tisfortired · 01/03/2018 15:13

I braved it outside earlier to the co op for supplies and it was AWFUL. Never known anything like it.

I hope it packs it in tomorrow! Though I suspect it won't.

squoosh · 01/03/2018 15:14

Ouch, that's shit, newyear. Good luck with the surgery when it comes.

Tobebythesea · 01/03/2018 15:14

When I didn’t have a child I used to dream about being snowed in and it never happened. Books, fire, sleeping, long baths....Now I have a toddler and it’s rubbish. No baby groups, no driving = bored.

ThePinkOcelot · 01/03/2018 15:15

Bored here now! Made it in to work yesterday but not today as much worse. I haven’t poked my nose out the front door, it’s far too cold for me!

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 15:16

It is cold, but beautiful if you go outside.

Kursk · 01/03/2018 15:18

Some of us have been told by the government to stay inside.

Use your own judgment, don’t blindly trust the government.

Yes people have died in the past being stupid, but a reasonably fit healthy person isn’t gong to die in a urban environment.

WonderLime · 01/03/2018 15:18

I would absolutely love to get outside, but that is really just more stress than it’s worth with a 7 month old.

The car is obviously a no-go, the pram isn’t going to move in this snow and I don’t want to carry him as the winds are awful (not to mention the weight of him).

I haven’t been out since Saturday and I’m going mad. I’ve become an awful mother and I’ve been plonking DS down to watch TV because I’m losing the enthusiasm to do anything else. DP leaves in the morning before I wake and doesn’t get in until 7 this week.

I’m so lonely and fed up.

Riverside2 · 01/03/2018 15:20

@newyearwhoohoo

oh dear, I'm really sorry to hear that. Wish you a speedy recovery Flowers

rogermooresfifthwife · 01/03/2018 15:21

Are you me?! Exactly the same here - DP has gone upstairs with the laptop in a huff because I can't keep dd away from him and he's trying to work - we were out for two hours in the freezing cold earlier to let him work but I can't stay out all day. Hopefully the trains will be ok tomorrow and he can go to work!

bizmum1 · 01/03/2018 15:22

I hear you OP. I'm working from home but done everything for today so have started watching a box set in the living room with a hot water bottle and blanket (to feel cosy) I don't normally watch telly in the day - it feels very indulgent and a bit naughty.

RainbowGlitterFairy · 01/03/2018 15:23

I am on day 3 of no school. first two days were fine coz DD was also off so we went out and played in it then snuggled with films. She's back in today so I'm really bored.

Minestheoneinthegreen · 01/03/2018 15:26

I never get cabin fever. I could cheerfully stay in indefinitely, I am very happy littering about. If anything I get the opposite - The Fear when I have to rejoin the real world.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 01/03/2018 15:27

Yea, a bit! We took a wander to the shop this morning but as well as the cold it is very blustery. The icy wind blowing in our faces was awful and made for a miserable walk!

My dc are playing in the garden at the moment but are in & out like bloody yo-yos and keep leaving the door wide open.

I'm bored out of my skull and have spent most of the afternoon editing photos because I have nothing else to do apart from housework.

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 15:29

Use your own judgment, don’t blindly trust the government

my own judgement matches the government, but that wasn't the point. You would be a total twat not to listen to the advice here.
Who says I'm in an urban environment?

The point, again, is that people are posting as if their conditions are everyones, telling them how stupid and lazy they are if they aren't out having snowball fights. It's idiotic and dangerous to do so in some places. Try to remember that other people live in other places and are not you.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 15:33

Advice where I live is not to go out. Totally unnecessary for healthy adults and many kids. It is too deep for toddlers as they would literally be buried in it. About to head out now though.

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 15:34

well thats fine for you but does not change my point.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/03/2018 15:36

I think some people on this thread don't understand how deep the snow is in some places. When I open my door the snow that is piled up against it falls into the hall, I then have to dig it out. It rural areas there is no one clearing paths or roads and not enough people to tramp them down. The snow is waist deep on me, and very difficult for small children to negotiate.

While we have been outside for a play, the kids got tired very quickly. I wouldn't criticize someone not going out. We are not just talking about a sprinkling!

DavetheCat2001 · 01/03/2018 15:36

There's a BIG difference in being snowed in on your own, costing up in front of the tv/fire with hot drinks/wine and being all snuggly and being stuck in all day with annoying, bickering, noisy kids who no matter what you try and do, it's never good enough.

I crave solitude.

Sanderz · 01/03/2018 15:37

Sorry tinky, looks like the only thing to do when the government advises you stay in is to go out, lest you look like a sheep. After all there are literally no weather conditions that would make that a genuinely silly idea; you're just not trying hard enough!

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 01/03/2018 15:38

Just get out and enjoy it. What do people in countries with properly harsh winters do?

Well... I don't go out in a blizzard, but I do go out once it's stopped.

We have snowshoes though.

And we've been known to cross country ski along the roads in between ploughs coming through. But you need skis to do that.

And we have special ploughs for clearing the pavements so that people can walk along them.

Kursk · 01/03/2018 15:39

To all those who are snowed in, it is a good idea to clear your path/driveway to enable emergency access.

cottonwool125 · 01/03/2018 15:39

I wanted to take DS out for a walk in his pushchair today as long as the paths were relatively clear (we didn't have anymore snow fall overnight where I am). However, he's woken up with what I suspect is conjunctivitis, in both eyes Sad. He also seems very under the weather, and it feels a bit cruel to drag him out for a walk. So, we are staying in today watching far too many films broken up with a few naps. I'm going insane! I'm already thinking about having dinner, just so it's something to do Grin

Getoffthetableplease · 01/03/2018 15:44

@DavetheCat2001

Exactly this.

YetAnotherNC2017 · 01/03/2018 15:46

Bored here too. Attempted to get to work yesterday morning, couldn’t even get off my drive. Worked from home ever since. The four kids have been off school since yesterday lunchtime and given the overnight forecast and day forecast tomorrow I suspect it’ll be the same groundhog day again tomorrow.

I want to get out dammit!
