Both high end and small/ local and Why?

I'll start- number one at the Balmoral in Edinburgh. Treated ourselves due to celebrating new house and job and it was simply amazing. We did the taster menu and it was beautiful from start to finish, tried loads of food I wouldn't normally try and the service was top notch (was expensive!). Small and local to me, Bistro Franc in Liverpool, does a Sunday wine and dine offer and every time we've been is spot on in terms of the food and really good value. Me and DP are big foodies and usually have a good read of TripAdvisor before we go.

Another vote for Le Manoir.

At the not-so-extravagant end of the scale, Brawn on Columbia Road in London.

Saz1995 · 27/02/2018 21:50

Frederics bistro in Maidstone, Kent. Beautiful food, attentive staff and always so busy as so well known where I live! My partner proposed in there and we got a free bottle of champagne 😀

We had a magical new year's lunch at The Witchery in Edinburgh a few years ago. Lovely food and beautiful setting. For more everyday type food the Hawksmoor chain is amazing.

Strawberrylaceaddict · 27/02/2018 21:51

Crazy bear - we had the Thai menu and the food, service and atmosphere was amazing.

Neganforever · 27/02/2018 21:51

The French Table, Surbiton is a regular. Recently went to Mere (Monica Galetti's new restaurant) and it was beautiful food and exceptional service.

Youllneverweealone · 27/02/2018 21:53

Cassamia in Bristol (not been since it moved, but it is still supposed to be amazing).

Also recently ate at Box-E in Bristol which ran it close.

I should leave this thread as there are at least 10 places in Bristol I want to try, don't need my wish list to go national.

dayswithaY · 27/02/2018 21:54

Hakkasan in Hanway Place, London. Can't explain how amazing the food is.

meercat23 · 27/02/2018 21:55

Tom Kerridges Hand and Flowers in Marlow. I liked the food better than The Manoir although that was spectacular too. Loved Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant in Padstow. The staff were amazing

Best ever carvery for me is the Glasshouse at The Grove.

BlondeB83 · 27/02/2018 21:56

The Oxo Tower Restaurant is amazing.

LeighaJ · 27/02/2018 21:57

Cafe Monico in London, food was delicious and the service amazing.

Harvester in Dudley, nice quality food, large variety, good prices.

Riverside Fish & Chips in Matlock Bath, best chicken strips I've ever had from a restaurant, open late, decent prices.

The fish and chips place down the road, yummy, cheap chicken strips.

orangesticker · 27/02/2018 22:01

Loved The Ledbury and Chez Bruce - La Gavroche was too old fashioned, food was mediocre - overall disappointing!

Didn't like Hind's Head either - promised loads of veggie options at time of booking but they were crap and just removed the meat from the plate, so fish with salad - veggie option - salad!

MotherofPearl · 27/02/2018 22:07

Can't believe nobody's mentioned the River Cafe. I've only eaten there twice but both times the food was incredibly good. I like its simplicity - not terribly keen on some of the faffing that goes on with food in supposedly 'posh' restaurants.

JaneEyre70 · 27/02/2018 22:11

Bovey Castle Hotel on Dartmoor was sublime.

Locally, we love The Daffodil in Cheltenham.

Clawdy · 27/02/2018 22:11

Green's in Didsbury, Manchester.

orangesticker · 27/02/2018 22:12

Best find was Vanilla Blacks veggie food but the atmosphere was lacking.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 27/02/2018 22:15

Winteringham Fields, not too far from Scunthorpe

CheekyRedhead · 27/02/2018 22:16

Agree with OP The Balmoral is great. My mum loves afternoon tea there

thenightsky · 27/02/2018 22:17

I loved Winteringham Fields too. Its pretty local to me and I wish I could afford to go again.

Saz - just arranged to go to Frederick for a meal. I’ve heard good things about it.

midnightmisssuki · 27/02/2018 22:20

La Gavroche and Alain Ducasse @ the Dorchester are lovely

Jamie Olivers has got to be one of the worst we've every had.

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/02/2018 22:22

The Harrow at Little Bedwyn consistently good for years.

LoopyLou1981 · 27/02/2018 22:22

Another vote for The Ledbury. Absolutely amazing food and it had a nice atmosphere x
