Both high end and small/ local and Why?

I'll start- number one at the Balmoral in Edinburgh. Treated ourselves due to celebrating new house and job and it was simply amazing. We did the taster menu and it was beautiful from start to finish, tried loads of food I wouldn't normally try and the service was top notch (was expensive!). Small and local to me, Bistro Franc in Liverpool, does a Sunday wine and dine offer and every time we've been is spot on in terms of the food and really good value. Me and DP are big foodies and usually have a good read of TripAdvisor before we go.

I used to walk past Chez Bruce on my way to work and always wanted to go in there. Maybe I will one day...

I loved The Seafood Restaurant in Steinville Padstow It’s bloody pricey. Me and DP spent about £150 for three courses and booze! But we were childfree and stupidly extravagant carefree then - 15 years ago so possibly even more expensive now.

We also went to an Italian in Soho back then and I can’t remember the name but I was really impressed that the tiramisu came in a biscuit bowl that you could eat afterwards. Yummy, edible crockery! Grin

Lasan in Birmingham is my absolute favourite restaurant. It’s indian food, but not a curry. Very tasty, won Gordon Ramsay’s F word and chef has been on great British menu

tobee · 27/02/2018 21:19

Le Gavroche.

Rayna37 · 27/02/2018 21:20

For your area, Sticky Walnut (Chester) or Gary Usher's new one in Liverpool, Wreckfish. But I second/third L'Enclume for best overall.

underneaththeash · 27/02/2018 21:22

Fav - Fat duck, we last ate their 2017. I also rate Le Manior, Waterside Inn and Le Gavriche.
We dudn't have a great meal at Dinner.
We had the most amazing Sunday lunch at a restaurant called Rothesay Rooms in the Cairngorms last week, which was on a par with most of the above.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 27/02/2018 21:22

Waterside Inn at Bray. Absolutely the most amazing meal ever.

And L'Autre Pied in London. Best cooked salmon I have ever had.

iloveredwine · 27/02/2018 21:23

Gleneagles for me too. A new years ball and it was fabulous! Before children though

JonSnowsCloak · 27/02/2018 21:23

Thanks Rayna, definitely got Wreckfish on the list! We went the Art School last year and loved it, one of the wines we had we searched for and couldn't get in this country and the chef/owner offered for me to buy one from him instead which was a nice touch :)

The Old Stamp House in Ambleside is great.

Badgoushk · 27/02/2018 21:23

Another vote for Chez Bruce!

Jarstastic · 27/02/2018 21:25

Gainsborough Bath Spa. Heaven!

Gincision · 27/02/2018 21:25

High end - Raby Hunt. Absolutely sensational food

Local / low key - Riley's fish shack built or of a couple of shipping containers on the beach in Tynemouth serving freshly caught fish cooked in a word oven. Totally amazing for very different reasons

MissBeehiving · 27/02/2018 21:25

Midsummer House in Cambridge.

Pleased to see Morston Hall on the thread - we had our wedding reception there 😀 and go back there frequently - it’s our local.

Ilovelblue · 27/02/2018 21:35

Le Manoir was absolutely amazing.

I live not too far from L'Enclume but am afraid it didn't float my boat. I felt it was a bit Emperor's New Clothes.

The Witchery by the castle in Edinburgh was lovely too

MrsBungle · 27/02/2018 21:37

Three chimneys on Isle of Skye.

onemorecakeplease · 27/02/2018 21:37

Aspendos Turkish restaurant in Inverness is our best local restaurant. It’s so good!

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/02/2018 21:40

Ivy on The Square Edinburgh or Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles .

StopHammerTime · 27/02/2018 21:42

Totally agree that Chez Bruce is fantastic. We've been four times and it has never disappointed. Going for a fifth time soon.

TheSnowFairy · 27/02/2018 21:43

Another vote for the Waterside Inn, we went there for our 10th anniversary.

It's our 20th next year so looking for somewhere equally fab!

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 27/02/2018 21:43

Olive Tree, Bath.
The French Table, Surbiton.

Calic0 · 27/02/2018 21:46

Another vote for Raby Hunt! Went towards the end of last year and loved it.

L'Enclume is amazing too and am excited that Roganic is back now - we ate there years ago when it did its first pop up and it was great.

pieceofpurplesky · 27/02/2018 21:46

@readyforapummelling Luke's is now closed

BonnieF · 27/02/2018 21:47

Sat Bains in Nottingham. Amazing.

Petalflowers · 27/02/2018 21:47

Simpson’s on Strand (Savoy hotel) - had a superb celebratory meal there in December.

Also been to Rules. Lovely food and service, but felt overcrowded and I prefer Simpson’s.

(Disclaimer - don’t always go to big posh restaurants)

JDSTER · 27/02/2018 21:48

Castle Terrace in Edinburgh. We went a couple of years ago for my birthday and had an amazing tasting menu with paired wines. Went back a year later and we saw guests at the next table having a course we remembered from the year before. We asked if we were getting it next and our waiter said “no, you had that last time”. We were Shock at the attention to detail to ensure we had different food a whole year later!
