Both high end and small/ local and Why?

I'll start- number one at the Balmoral in Edinburgh. Treated ourselves due to celebrating new house and job and it was simply amazing. We did the taster menu and it was beautiful from start to finish, tried loads of food I wouldn't normally try and the service was top notch (was expensive!). Small and local to me, Bistro Franc in Liverpool, does a Sunday wine and dine offer and every time we've been is spot on in terms of the food and really good value. Me and DP are big foodies and usually have a good read of TripAdvisor before we go.

@bonnief really?! We went for our wedding anniversary last year and we’re so excited, the reviews were amazing....it cost £475 and I’ve never felt more cheated in my life. Apart from his signature meal, which was admittedly excellent, I couldn’t tell you a single other dish....such a letdown. I still haven’t admitted this to my husband Blush

AnnabelleLecter · 27/02/2018 22:41

Our local favourites.
Darleys, Darley Abbey- amazing food and views of the weir.
The Lighthouse, Ashbourne- gorgeous food and presentation.
The Merchant yard, Tideswell - Sunday lunch and afternoon tea heaven.

Littlecaf · 27/02/2018 22:41

The Black Rat in Winchester. Fun & friendly

I love simple seafood so Steins Bistro in Padstow or Riddle & Finns in Brighton

The best hangover cure was wild boar rage pasta at an Italian place in Harrow on the Hill c. 2006, it was lunch after a particularly heavy Friday night!

verite · 27/02/2018 23:23

I loved le gavroche and le manoir. Thought Marcus Waering and gidleigh Park were both nothing special and overpriced. Not been to lenclume but went to Simon Rogans pop up roganic and thought it was emperors new clothes - some dishes were positively unpleasant.

verite · 27/02/2018 23:24

Oh and when Japan atherton was head chef at maze I thought that was amazing, but don’t think any of the restaurants in his little empire have ever lived up to that. Although his Japanese - soshuru is pretty fun!

meercat23 · 27/02/2018 23:25

Le Gavriche is where I have wanted to go ever since they first opened in Pimlico before moving to Mayfair. Haven't given up hope of getting thereSmile

verite · 27/02/2018 23:25

For everyday meal I do love busaba eatthai.

TeddyIsaHe · 27/02/2018 23:29

I have to say Morston Hall because I know the head chef very well and he’s really made the food completely incredible since he started.

Hospital Road is incredible, classic and beautifully cooked.

L’enclume, I ate there the day it got it’s second star and it was such an incredible experience.

Dinner by Heston is a cracking place.

The Greenhouse in London is fabulous. Desserts are out of this world.

Restaurant Sat Bains.

I love food! And am a chef, so it’s basically in my job description to eat everywhere.

WonkyDonk87 · 27/02/2018 23:31

Placemarking for discussion with DH tomorrow 😁
Fave was Nathan Outlaw's, followed by Hibiscus (sadly closed) or Champignion Sauvage. DH would vote for Casamia

Worst meal - most chains if we've ever had to pay hard earned cash rather than Tesco vouchers

Yvest · 27/02/2018 23:32

hakkasan in Hanway Place, London. Can't explain how amazing the food is

I have to say that was one of my biggest disappointments ever. I didn’t enjoy it a bit. The food was ok but it was just so loud and busy and full of flash middle aged men.

Petrus when Marcus Waring was cooking was absolutely outstanding. I’m also a massive fan of the tasting menu at Roka

SuburbanRhonda · 27/02/2018 23:32

@FleetwoodSmack

We’re vegetarian so I had a quick look at Bocca di Lupo - what on earth did you eat for your main? The menu looks a nightmare for vegetarians.

WonkyDonk87 · 27/02/2018 23:33

Don't know why I added worst meals there should have read the bloody OP

Neolara · 27/02/2018 23:35

Midsummer House in Cambridge was fabulous..

Sevendown · 27/02/2018 23:37

Ate O’Clock in York

LastAnni · 27/02/2018 23:39

Providore and Tapas Room in Marylebone. One of my top five in the world.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 27/02/2018 23:41

Chapel in Cardiff, was lovely

JonSnowsCloak · 27/02/2018 23:45

Haha wonkydonk worst meals is also Ok! Someone mentioned Jamie Oliver's and I have to agree it was awful and overpriced, not surprised he's shutting a lot of the restaurants down.

Glad to see the Oxo Tower appear here. Going there very soon, so hoping it lives up to expectations.

LemonysSnicket · 27/02/2018 23:54

High end- Knife in Clapham - not for the steak but for the lamb.
Cafe - Pasta Romana in Leeds ... the best Italian food ( spec. Bucatini Bolognaise) I have EVER eaten.

ladymariner · 28/02/2018 00:00

The Pipe & Glass at South Dalton, near Beverley. Gorgeous food, beautiful surroundings.

Crunched · 28/02/2018 00:00

Restaurant Sat Bains and The Old Stamp House.
Murano (Angela Hartnet) is great value and relaxed.

Love the 'emperor's new clothes' comment re L'Enclume, I find Rogan & Company more enjoyable.
Must be hellish running a restaurant and trying to please all of the people all of the time.

Shoxfordian · 28/02/2018 06:24

The King's Head in Teddington is always delicious food, lovely service. Been going there for a few years now. It's a White Brasserie pub owned by Raymond Blanc; there's a few of them in the chain.

The Cinnamon Club in Westminster was lovely as well. Really good indian food. Expensive but delicious

cheshiremama89 · 28/02/2018 06:32

The Gilpin the Lakes
The Balmoral Edinburgh
Bob Bob Ricard London
Clos Maggiore London
The Church Inn Mobberley

positivepixie · 28/02/2018 06:37

Hand & Flowers for more relaxed feel - food always ridiculously tasty and just a wonderful atmosphere

Bibendum. Wow, faultless food and service, very special.

L'Enclume. Another vote for this place, genius chef.

Man Behind the Curtain. Different feel, I absolutely love it - the decor, music and food like nowhere else. Mind bending.

Minniemountain · 28/02/2018 06:43

Midsummer House. A relative of DH's ran a pub in the building in the 70's, I love knowing that when we go.
Morston Hall.
