Calling Tory Voters

donquixotedelamancha · 26/02/2018 19:10

Some recent NHS themed threads have me thinking. I wonder whether those who voted Tory at the last election, or the one previously, wouldn't mind giving their oppinions:

  1. Do you think that the NHS is in crisis? If so do you want it to receive more money?
  2. Was the NHS an important issue for you, when you voted?
  3. What do you want to see replace the NHS?
  4. Do you intend to vote the same way again? Does this fit with your answers above, or do you feel torn?

A bit like the Tory right to buy vote bribe and kick the can down the road.

Justanotherlurker · 27/02/2018 19:51

What evidence is there that most people don't want to pay more tax for the NHS? I'd pay more happily if it was ringfenced.

There was a poll recently that said a majority of people would happily pay more to the NHS, but when it comes down to a GE that generally changes, you only have to look at the backlash to JC and Labour suddenly when they wanted to target people who earn 70K and that was just from labour supporters.

If it was ringfenced then it would need to be made a cross party solution, Labour is the ones holding this back IMO as they seem to think they have the moral ground and use it as a political football, just like this thread.

Butchmanda · 27/02/2018 20:10

I'd like to know why anyone who isn't a fucking toff would vote Tory. And, then ask all Tory voters, who is going to rescue you from your burning mansion or cut you from your crashed Jag on the motorway when the Tories have finished with cuts to emergency services. That's what I can't understand! You don't get fucking private fire engines. Admittedly deeply disappointed in the Blair/Brown performances in the last Labour Government but even so ....

Samantha77hat · 27/02/2018 20:17

I'd like to know why anyone who isn't a fucking toff would vote Tory

Same reason anyone who isn’t a communist would vote Labour

purits · 27/02/2018 20:25

1. Do you think that the NHS is in crisis?

The NHS is always in crisis. You think that they would have learned how to manage it by now.Hmm

The NHS is always in crisis when the Tories are in power. Depending on your POV this is either due to cuts or due to Unions' mischief-making. Even Tony Blair said he had the knife wounds in his back from all the attacks by Unions who didn't want their cosy little set-up looked at too closely.

Justanotherlurker · 27/02/2018 20:25

I'd like to know why anyone who isn't a fucking toff would vote Tory.

And another one...

Maybe you should engage in a bit of critical thinking, as its you who is looking like an uneducated fool for such a comment.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 27/02/2018 20:26

I'd like to know why anyone who isn't a fucking toff would vote Tory

Not got a mansion, jaguar etc and neither of us are higher rate tax payers but I still vote Tory because tax credits caused untold damage and they were the only party actively promoting benefit changes.

Samantha77hat · 27/02/2018 20:41

If a Jaguar is all it takes to fall into this magical 5% elite few etc that Comrade Corbyn is gradually getting half the gullible morons like the ‘Toff’ poster below to hate, you can see why 14 million people voted Tory.

SillySallySingsSongs · 27/02/2018 20:48

I'd like to know why anyone who isn't a fucking toff would vote Tory

I'd like to know why people have to throw ridiculous stereotypes around.

Justwanttosayplease · 27/02/2018 20:53
  1. I am not sure about crisis. It needs money redeployed urgently at the very least - especially MH services.
  2. Yes of course, it's an incredible resource and one of the best organisations in the world. The direct medical staff are awesome.
  3. Incredible leadership and not so many suits, and definitely always free for all, but less waste.
  4. I can never say with certainty who I will vote for but it's been Labour once, otherwise Conservative. Responsible capitalism drives growth and responsible socialism shares it out effectively. I would not vote for Labour today nor Conservative. If Corbyn and Abbott and McDonnell were ousted I would switch to Labour at the next GE. I fear the Conservatives are reverting back to the sort of bunch we had in the 1990's, just awful weak party.
purits · 27/02/2018 20:56

3. What do you want to see replace the NHS?

If I was Tory PM I would replace the NHS with NHS 2.0.
It is ridiculous that, after 70 years of various different Governments, Labour try to pretend that the NHS is 'theirs'. I would replace it with a new, improved Tory NHS (that works properly).

purits · 27/02/2018 21:17

Labour never harp on about income tax being a Tory invention. Funny that.Grin

Bluelady · 27/02/2018 21:29

Why would they? Blaming Pitt the Younger is a bit of a stretch for any politician.

purits · 27/02/2018 21:41

Blaming?Confused Labour would love to say that they invented income tax, redistribution of wealth and all that.

4Funnels · 28/02/2018 01:23

@Butchmanda

Why so much hate and bile? I assume that "fucking toff" means anyone with more money, success or privilege than you?

It seems to be more about education than anything else link (with the the least politically educated voting Labour) although I'm sure that those who feel entitled to more state support will vote for Labour who promised larger handouts. Are they 'fucking chavs' - I assume the opposite of "fucking toffs".

malificent7 · 28/02/2018 07:20

I think the reason why people are bitter about toffs is the priveledge.

It's hard to feel goodwill to a group ofpeople who are living it up whilst barely surviving even though uou ste working all hours.

For me it is the reluctance of the rich to share ( pay taxes) that breeds resentment.

They think they are rich as they are superior and less feckless.

ShackUp · 28/02/2018 07:23

Tories on this thread: why do you think the rest of us vote not-Tory? What are we objecting to/supporting? Would love to know what you think about 'the other half'.

SillySallySingsSongs · 28/02/2018 07:27

I think the reason why people are bitter about toffs is the priveledge.

There are 'toffs' as you put it in the Labour Party too. Or are they the right sort of 'toffs' as they agree with you?

Personwithhorse · 28/02/2018 07:37

By the time Corbyn and his Marxist cronies have nationalised the Post Office, trains, and everything else there won’t be any money for anything else and the country will be burdened with massive borrowing.

The NHS is a bottomless pit, people have to reduced their expectations - it is a health service - so no IVF, no plastic surgery for vanity reasons, etc.

People need to be more responsible for themselves, especially over their food and drink consumption - obesity leads to many illnesses, including diabetes. And no it is YOUR responsibility to keep your weight down not the NHS.

Accountant222 · 28/02/2018 07:37

I didn't vote last election purely because of NHS the tories just weren't saying anything, it was all Brexit. I have more or less voted conservative all my life.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 28/02/2018 07:53

Tories on this thread: why do you think the rest of us vote not-Tory? What are we objecting to/supporting? Would love to know what you think about 'the other half'.

My best friend of over 20 years is a lefty (and a wannabe hippy) - we are completely diametrically opposed on political ideology so we have had some really good discussions over the years (also opposites on Brexit too).

We both essentially want the same outcomes, it's just that we have different opinions on the best way to achieve them.

I have no time for the extreme left, ditto the extreme right - but the rest of us are not so different really imo.

ShotsFired · 28/02/2018 08:04

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation We both essentially want the same outcomes, it's just that we have different opinions on the best way to achieve them.

This is exactly it. I am so sick of the sneering from (mostly) Labour voters aimed at (mostly) Conservative voters with all the emotive, virtue signalling posts.

We all want the country to succeed. We all want things to go well as best we can. We all judge the issues that are important to us (shock horror people will have different priorities too) and then vote according to what we think is the best party to deal with that list. Stop playing the fucking moral superiority card and accept that people are all different.

ShotsFired · 28/02/2018 08:06

Also, Brexit. Oh yeah, all the Tories fault, nothing to do with anyone else whatsoever?

Not even the majority of the UK voting population who decided it in the public referendum?
(or perhaps more accurately the useless sods who didn't bother to vote at all)

We have only ourselves to blame for this shitshow.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 28/02/2018 08:15

Re Brexit, I'm strongly in favour, she wasn't.
She's pro independence for Scotland, I'm a unionist.

We are utterly opposed on all things political, yet we're completely in agreement on the outcomes that we'd like to see - we just disagree on the best way to achieve them.

galwaygrand · 28/02/2018 08:23

Procurement, procurement, procurement. We are wasting so much money due to examples like those already shared.

I would also like to see the end of the “if we don’t spend it before March then we’ll lose the budget for next year” mindset which is ingrained in the NHS, Local Authorities and so on. Can you imagine a privately run business looking to waste money on purpose?

We are haemorrhaging money all over the place. That’s what needs to change.
