To find ordering in subway stressful

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 13:10

Just asked my oh what we should have for lunch suggested a KFC or a quiche from a local patisserie.

He suggested subway. It gave me the rage.

I actually don't mind the food but the ordering process and all the questions actually raises my anxiety levels. Especially if you want more than one sandwich.

I mean you can't just order and wait you have to constantly speak and wait and the queue always takes ages.

Aibu? Anyone else?

I used to work for subway so it could have changed.

Subway don't do a cheese sandwich believe it or not. Its a veggie delight which is obviously a salad sandwich then you just get the normal cheese toasted. A franchise can have a sandwich they want in there own menu so we had 3 cheese as she felt bad for the cheese sandwich lovers. It was peppered monty cheddar and the triangle cheese but not all do it.

It is daunting first time but it becomes very easy when you get it.
How can you not see the menus they're huge lol

They're trying to be quick because they have to do as many as they can in an hour. The manager usually checks after rush. If it goes quiet staff hours can get cut. Which was really annoying as it's not just making a sandwich there's actually a lot to do making the job preety hard.

What a ridiculous thread. First world problem.

PenelopeFlintstone · 26/02/2018 09:08

Learn and repeat: "Toasted sweet onion chicken teriyaki on a 6 inch white".

sinceyouask · 26/02/2018 11:42

What a ridiculous thread. First world problem.
Oh, have the talk guidelines recently changed to advise us that only serious and important issues can be discussed here? Is there a list of which issues are non ridiculous and non first world enough to warrant discussion? Hmm

Walk past the air vents of your local Subway and inhale - ask yourself - is that really "food smells"?

I think they ask so many questions at Subway to give you a chance to run for the door as you realise that all the cr*p they are offering you is full of chemicals and God knows what else.

mydogisthebest · 26/02/2018 16:32

Never had anything from a Subway. The smell alone makes me feel sick. I used to work in a shop which had a Subway next door. Spent every day feeling ill with the smell coming into my shop

anyone fancy a career as a 'sandwich artist'?

Sandwich artist Grin

I went to subway once and came out feeling like I had been assaulted in the bum. All I had to show for it was a soggy sandwich I didn't like because I didn't want to hold the other customers up.

Amarriedcatlady · 27/02/2018 08:07

Choose what sandwhich you want.

Go to the counter and say you want a 6 inch or the foot long meatball or whatever.

When they asked what bread, either say Italian ( plain white bread ) to start with or ask them what bread usually works best with that filling.
All the breads taste nice, so if you make a mistake with bread, don’t worry.

They will ask if you want it toasted and with cheese - it’s either yes or no

With the salad, it’s usually best to to say, all of it except olives or whatever you hate. Or just say lettuce and tomato. Or none. They don’t care. Quite frankly, you can automatically see what salad items you don’t like in front of you.

Sauces - just stick to mayo or ask them what sauce works best with it. If you say what does honey mustard taste like, usually they will put some in a little cup for you to try.

The meal deal is just a drink, a packet of crisps or a cookie.

Kazzyhoward · 27/02/2018 09:15

Just follow each stage. Most have different people doing the different stages, so just start at the end of the counter opposite the till and work towards it. First thing is bread selection - so just tell them size and which bread you want. Then you move along to select your meat, cheese yes/no, toasted yes/no. Then you move along to the salad where you simply tell them which bits of salad you want, then finally which sauce/dressing you want. The trick is to do it step by step which is how the counter/staff are set up. You can't/don't ask for everything in one go. Even my 78 year old mother with dementia can do it herself.

Eliza9917 · 27/02/2018 09:59

Look at the menu online & decide what you want before you go.

I have to do this in KFC drive-thru because they don't put up the whole menu.

Rainatnight · 27/02/2018 10:02

I really like it, cos I'm quite fussy and often don't like various bits in pre-prepared sandwiches. So I like the build your own aspect. And it's really just a question of telling them what you want!

sashh · 27/02/2018 10:05

Not to mention the fact they uses halal meat, no thanks!

Yes that nasty halal bacon and ham.

Jeff Japers Subway song

Sound quality is a bit poor on this vid and he sings it a bit fast but
this Jeff Japers song is very popular in our house. My DCs can't go past a Subway without singing: 'You can take your foot-long and shove it up your Subway!'

thenightsky · 27/02/2018 11:17

I learned early on to always say 'yes' to the toasted/cheese question. It buys you a whole minute's thinking time.

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/02/2018 12:23

Halal meat in chains is killed in exactly the same way as non halal except that a prayer is played. You have to go to a specialist Muslim butchers to source unstunned halal meat in the UK.

slithytove · 27/02/2018 12:38

It’s so easy 😊😁

Just learn the order:
Size-type-bread-toasted-cheese-salad-sauce-anything else

So mine is: 6-inch turkey ham on hearty Italian, not toasted, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mayo, meal deal.

Just needs practice.

purplelass · 27/02/2018 12:40

Subway is fine - I order for me + DD and I tend to try something different each time. It's nicely logical to my mind -

  1. Bread
  2. Filling
  3. Cheese & Toasted
  4. Salad
  5. Sauce
What's complicated about that?!

Coffee shops on the other hand... ridiculously overpriced fancy places! Give me a mug of milky Nescafe any day Smile

BusterTheBulldog · 27/02/2018 12:49

How do you not know what you like on a sandwich though?

Pick sandwich,
pick bread.
Cheese added?
Toasted?
Add salad to choice
Add sauce to choice
That’s it!

halfwitpicker · 27/02/2018 12:51

It's hard work, I agree.

When French DH first moved to Canada he used to only eat 'out' in McDonald's as you could just say number 1 meal or whatever, subway was too much as he couldn't stand all the interaction.

halfwitpicker · 27/02/2018 12:52

Thing with subway is that there's too much choice. The bread, the sauce, toasted or not etc. Bloody mind boggling.

scottishdiem · 27/02/2018 12:59

I am guessing that those who find all these choices hard also think that mustard on a ham sandwich is the height of cosmopolitan sophistication?

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/02/2018 13:04

Or maybe they eat a varied diet and don't stick to exactly the same sandwich each time they go in there?

On the subject of the cheese, is it actual cheese or is it that nasty pretend cheese used in mcdonalds etc?

JanKind · 27/02/2018 13:08

Can’t stand the smells that waft out of Subway so have never been in. Sounds like you alsoneed to do the sameGrin
