To find ordering in subway stressful

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 13:10

Just asked my oh what we should have for lunch suggested a KFC or a quiche from a local patisserie.

He suggested subway. It gave me the rage.

I actually don't mind the food but the ordering process and all the questions actually raises my anxiety levels. Especially if you want more than one sandwich.

I mean you can't just order and wait you have to constantly speak and wait and the queue always takes ages.

Aibu? Anyone else?

I went once. A complete subway virgin. I wanted a specific turkey thing that there was a picture of so I asked for 'that one please'. The ensuing barrage of questions took me completely by surprise. I managed to negotiate them one by one in my own sweet time, but crikey! What a right bloody carry on is required just for a fucking sandwich!. Can't be doing with all that malarkey. Most of it ended up in the foot well anyway. I can live without subway.

Slartybartfast · 24/02/2018 15:33

i tend to have the same thing every time! upsetting when they took away the wraps though.
last time i had one i couldnt hear the person behind the counter, they didnt enunciate their words very well.
i have no idea about whether the deals are a good deal and do i really want a bag of crisps or a cookie with a drink

Snaffoncrassin · 24/02/2018 15:36

I went to New York and went to an amazing deli selling all sorts of delicious things. The menu was at the till and the man behind the till was a proper no nonsense New Yorker "whaddya want?" And I was terrified! Just had a basic sandwich and really wanted to try something different but it was too stressful! Huge queue behind me.

Slartybartfast · 24/02/2018 15:37

i dont like mcdonalds as i never know what i want, then i think i want a chicken wrap or somethign and then realise actually the sweet chili sauce, sounds appealing, far too hot to eat!

bigchris · 24/02/2018 15:38

Oh I'm the same
First time I went in had a panic attack
Some lads were behind me huffing and it made me feel slow and stupid
Won't go in alone now lol

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 24/02/2018 15:40

Isn't there a tv ad just about this thing? About a guy dithering about the marinera meatballs or to try something else?

I have had subway twice, I found that any sandwich there tastes pretty much the same.

It's the kind of food I deem not worth the calories Wink, it also fails my "is it nicer than a cheese toastie at home" criterion Grin

A KFC zinger tower burger however....Grin

Sweetpea55 · 24/02/2018 15:46

'sandwich artist' lol.

Purplejay · 24/02/2018 15:53

I love subway. If you like the sandwiches it is worth persevering. I found it scary at first but know know exactly what to say and could order for three of us. Usually though, those of us eating go in together and other our own (paying together). My 11 yo has no probs. My order is 6” veggie deluxe on honey oat. It’s yes to the cheese and toasted question then salad? Everything except tomato and not many jalapeños please. Sauce? Half ranch, half sweet onion. Job done :)

tumblrpigeon · 24/02/2018 15:57

Ha ha I thought it was just me.
And our local sandwich artist has the grubbiest brownest teeth I have ever seen on an actual human.

sonjadog · 24/02/2018 15:57

I have this in every sandwich shop in America. It starts off okay and then the five types of cheese come and the dressing and the extra garnishes and I have no clue what goes well with anything. And it all has to be decided at high tempo while someone shouts at me. Sometimes I have dropped meals because I just can´t face the endless list of choices I have to make when ordering food.

iceycage · 24/02/2018 16:01

Out of interest has anyone ever had that veggie patty thing? I've always been unsure of it...

insancerre · 24/02/2018 16:02

Hate it with a passion
All those questions and choices
And then its not that nice

leghairdontcare · 24/02/2018 16:04

I can cope in britain as i've nailed down what I want pretty much to two choices (spicy italian on italian herb and cheese bread, tomato, pickles and jalepenos with honey mustard sauce or tuna mayo on oat bread with cucumber and onion, no sauce).

My main objection to subway is that I don't want my sandwich toasted and the question is "toasted or fresh?" - I cannot bring myself to say fresh.

iceycage · 24/02/2018 16:05

From what I can gather a lot of the stress people encounter seems to be from trying to read the menu.

I personally have never bothered with that and pretty much make up my order as I go so I suppose that's why I've never had a problem. But I do understand if you'd rather chose a specific thing then yeah that must be a pain. As others have said maybe look at the menu online before so you can go in and just order whatever that particular sandwich is called

WazFlimFlam · 24/02/2018 16:08

It's an attempt to introduce an American-style ordering system to a low quality product. The concept of just having a standard sandwich i.e. the one on the menu, exists less in the States than it does here.

That said, there is a reason they 'have the usual' in the US. You need a standard order.

Mine is six-inch Italian BMT on Italian style bread, toasted with cheese. Then olives, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and pickles with hot sauce and light mayo.

SadieHH · 24/02/2018 16:12

I have never been to Subway...

Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway · 24/02/2018 16:18

I am fine in subway ‘6 inch honey oat, tuna, toasted with cheese, all the salad apart from jalapeños, ranch and hot chilli sauce’ Grin

What terrifies me is KFC! I cannot work out their menus for the life of me. I don’t know what it is but I really can never work out what is available. I just avoid them 99% of the time.

SkaPunkPrincess · 24/02/2018 16:21

If you feel someone is rushing you, you just tell them to slow down surely? Or if you don't go in often ask them to explain.

I bet alot of you struggle to say no and are massive people pleasers to let subway employees make you anxious!

Skarossinkplunger · 24/02/2018 16:23

I honestly find this amazing. How can you not cope with questions such as ‘what Salad would you like?’ Or ‘which sauce would you like?’. Seriously how do you people get through the day?

TheJoyOfSox · 24/02/2018 16:27

I did used to get stressed at subway. I’ve never been great at decision making. But I no longer eat meat so now if I have a subway it’s always the same and I’m happy with that. Hearty Italian bread. Spiced cheese, vegetarian Pattie toasted, all salad / veggies except green pepper (and onion if I have to talk to others) with sweet onion sauce.

TheJoyOfSox · 24/02/2018 16:31

@skorossinkplunger. I live in a city, the question was never “ what meat or what salad”. but more of a death stare, silence.....mumble, mumble, mumble (strong accents) death stare, why the hell are you women allowed out alone, final death stare!

I can’t remember the last time I was greeted with a smile or a cheery hello, it certainly wast here in my home city.

Skarossinkplunger · 24/02/2018 16:33

Dear God TheJoyofSox move north. Move north immediately, if not sooner.

Purplejay · 24/02/2018 16:37

I sometimes have the veggie pattie Icey. It’s fine and makes a change if I want a hot filling but mostly I just have cheese and salad. The salad and sauces kind of mask the flavour of it really.

BumDisease · 24/02/2018 16:39

@Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway

I'm going to hazard a guess that it's chicken.

PuppyMonkey · 24/02/2018 16:40

You see it’s the “which sauce would you like?” type of questions that stress me. I don’t expect any sauce on a sandwich, just some butter and ham and salad. What are these sauces they’re on about? Confused

I’m getting better in there these days. But I still have to go in with DD (aged 10) and say “I’ll just have what’s she’s having”.
