To find ordering in subway stressful

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 13:10

Just asked my oh what we should have for lunch suggested a KFC or a quiche from a local patisserie.

He suggested subway. It gave me the rage.

I actually don't mind the food but the ordering process and all the questions actually raises my anxiety levels. Especially if you want more than one sandwich.

I mean you can't just order and wait you have to constantly speak and wait and the queue always takes ages.

Aibu? Anyone else?

Honey oat bread? Confused

I know this is going to sound harsh, but this thread is jaw-dropping.
There are people out there who can't order a fucking sandwich Shock

taybert · 24/02/2018 19:34

I think that as a country our sandwich culture is to pick off a menu where the combinations are already decided. So if you’re not used to it, it’s confusing to be asked if you want cheese when you’ve asked for tuna salad. Or sauce. And why would it be toasted?
I cope very well day to day for those asking, but the idea of ordering a subway is more hassle than it’s worth.

crazycatgal · 24/02/2018 19:35

Does anyone find that subway sandwiches are never actually hot at all when they've been toasted?

sall74 · 24/02/2018 19:38

I absolutely love the smell of Subway but I've NEVER had one because I'm just too frightened/confused/overwhelmed by the menu choice and ordering process!

It's not that I can't. I have many times but I don't enjoy it and it acting raises my blood pressure. Still do it for oh now and then to get out of my comfort zoneGrin

I worked at subway for years. Always felt bad for people who wanted a cheese sandwich... that's not really what we do! Or people who want butter!

PuppyMonkey · 24/02/2018 19:48

I can order a sandwich just fine. Subways aren’t even sandwiches imho. All that toasted nonsense and mystery sauces.

EeeSheWasThin · 24/02/2018 19:56

The lady in front of me once asked for six inches of beef.

Cue the server and me silently laughing with shaking shoulders. 😂

FluffyBunyip · 24/02/2018 19:59

Never been in Subway but now I want to just so I can dither at the counter for 20 minutes and wind everyone up. Grin

FrozenMargarita17 · 24/02/2018 20:02

I ask for the same thing every time because the anxiety is high!! Whenever I go to a restaurant I have to look at the menu before haha.

Welshmaenad · 24/02/2018 20:03

Subway is easy for me as a veggie because it's just veggie patty Grin

There's a couple of outlets in Cardiff called Magic Wrap and the wraps are delicious but the number of options fries my tiny mind.

ChristmasCakes · 24/02/2018 20:09

What you need is someone to bring you in and guide you through the process. I love their hot chilli sauce

Pandoraslastchance · 24/02/2018 20:21

I just adore the flatbread with chicken terityaki with sweet onion sauce and alllllllll the salad except tomatoes which are the work of satan.

Exactly what I was thinking. I took my son in for the first time last week. He ordered his own sandwich. He is 5.

Shock Confused

sonjadog · 24/02/2018 20:27

It´s not that I cannot order a sandwich, it´s that I don´t want to have to make a whole pile of decisions about a sandwich that really isn´t that important to me. Especially when I don´t know every item and sauce they have and have no clue what would go well together. I´d rather they just made sandwiches with ingredients they know go together well (as they are the sandwich experts), and then I can just pick one of them and go. Even if it isn´t the greatest sandwich experience ever, it´ll probably be fine.

So it is more to do with not wanting the hassle of it than being unable to order a sandwich.

crazycatgal · 24/02/2018 20:30

The point of subway is that you can make your sandwich how you like it with sauces and salad etc. If you don't want the hassle of choosing all of the bits yourself then you're in the wrong shop.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 24/02/2018 20:37

If you think that ordering one of their subs is stressful, try ordering the soup...

It's not a sandwich, it's a pain in the fucking arse sandwich is what it is Grin

Hellywelly10 · 24/02/2018 20:59

Eeeshe.Blush
Yes the whole place is very phallic. I've often fancied a 12 inch one but have been to shy to ask.

hmmwhatatodo · 24/02/2018 21:00

Just don’t bother ordering their nachos with cheese. You will be very disappointed.

Babyroobs · 24/02/2018 21:02

DD and I went there today and dd's sub was shocking - it looked like the end piece of a stale French stick that had had a brick dropped on it. Bloody awful. £8.80 for 2 crap sandwiches and 2 small cokes.

starlightafar · 24/02/2018 21:09

WHY DO THEY ASK IF YOU WANT TO TOAST A SANDWICH? IF IT'S TOASTED IT'S NOT A SANDWICH. AND WHY DO THEY HAVE OLIVES AND SWEETCORN FOR SANDWICHES???
The cookies are the best bit

ForalltheSaints · 24/02/2018 21:10

Some people are stressed out by things we would find unusual to have any anxiety about. Fortunately in this case the OP has the option to go elsewhere, which would seem the best thing to do. Subway are not the best place for sandwiches and I don't blame anyone for avoiding them.

Ski40 · 24/02/2018 21:15

I used to love it
Until that horrible video came out with the employee stuffing lettuce up his nose.🤢
No more. I have a menu and recreate them at home, where it's safe. I think.
Shudder...
