To find ordering in subway stressful

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 13:10

Just asked my oh what we should have for lunch suggested a KFC or a quiche from a local patisserie.

He suggested subway. It gave me the rage.

I actually don't mind the food but the ordering process and all the questions actually raises my anxiety levels. Especially if you want more than one sandwich.

I mean you can't just order and wait you have to constantly speak and wait and the queue always takes ages.

Aibu? Anyone else?

Omg I absolutely love subway. Its my fave fast food place and the kids love it, I also like that I can have a healthy option there (80% of the time I get a salad bowl) . I really dont see why people get so flustered, you literally just ask for what you want. My fave is a chicken tikka salad bowl, all salad except cucumber and southwest sauce. If I get a sandwich I either get chicken pizziola, meatball, BMT or chicken tikka, all witwitp

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 24/02/2018 16:52

Dd decided to post that early....anyway, I shall be sampling each sub of the day soon. Not everyday mind but would like to try them all! I will admit I eat there around once every two weeks. Really don't think its so bad though, good in fact when I get a salad

BeeFarseer · 24/02/2018 16:52

I don't have this problem, but I can sympathise. I can't cope with hipster coffee places. I don't know where to stand, I can't read the awful chalkboard calligraphy and I never choose the right kind of vegan milk.

topcat2014 · 24/02/2018 17:06

@beefarseer - and this is why I go to Greggs peasant that I am

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 17:11

Glad it isn't only me.

I hate having to say my order but then I also want... and then have to answer all of the questions again.

Definitely a first world problem but it does give me a headache.

Southwest sauce. Confused

Not a bloody clue.

Idontevencareanymore · 24/02/2018 17:56

I don't find the ordering stressful as such, but the look I get when I say I just want a tuna mayo, no veg or Salad or pickles or anything. No sauce and no cheese and no I don't want it toasted.

Just a plain sandwich on the blandest bread you have. It's like I sprouted 5 heads.

greathat · 24/02/2018 17:57

In my subway they don't enunciate, so half the time I've no clue what they're asking and have to keep saying "pardon?". I guess once your a regular you just know what the questions are...

Clevs · 24/02/2018 18:04

Southwest Sauce is like a spicy Thousand Island and I always have it on my steak & cheese.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/02/2018 18:10

But how do you know what all these sauces taste like?

WTF is hearty Italian bread and how do I know if I would like that more than plain white?

It's like a secret code that no one lets you in on. And when there are hundreds of combinations available, it's a bit bonkers to have the same thing every time, wouldn't you want to try different combinations?

NotCornflakes · 24/02/2018 18:12

This is why I order the same thing every time! Subway might have an amazing range of sandwiches, delicious new products etc etc but I'll never know because I always have a six inch Italian BMT on herb and cheese bread!

LeighaJ · 24/02/2018 18:20

Wow I thought this thread was a joke at first, I have no idea why ordering a sandwich would be a source of "stress". 🤔🤣

I'm an introvert who's often indecisive about what I want to eat and have had social anxiety issues and I've never once felt stressed by having too many food choices.

Pandoraslastchance · 24/02/2018 18:24

I love subway as a bloody hate raw tomatoes and all the prepacked sandwiches that I eat have a slice of tomatoe lurking.

Subway is great if you are just ordering one meal. It's when you are ordering for more as soon as you've finished the first part of the first order they have moved onto the next person in the queue!um excuse me I've still got 4 more meals to order!!

MagicFajita · 24/02/2018 18:30

I find it very stressful too op. It's too busy , they fire questions at you and they've often run out of key ingredients for certain subs. I once went in for a breakfast sub (after pressure from teen son) and all they had for the filling was egg and turkey rashers.

Give me pret a manger any day.

CadyHeron · 24/02/2018 18:33

Southwest sauce. confused

Not a bloody clue.

Same. Yes it might be sauce and Southwest, but what IS it?! Confused

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 18:52

Leigha

It's not so much the choices but the questions on your choice and the speed of your choice. It's like getting your head pecked in a sandwich shop when you just want a bloody sandwich.

misskatamari · 24/02/2018 18:53

I love subway! I used to work in one when I was younger tho so guess that helps that I know the menu backwards. I wish they still did the Parmesan bread tho, that was amazing!

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 18:54

Pandora

That is it too. It's just worse when you have more than one order. It's like they don't take it into account at all. You have to say at the start I want two and not forget.

My heart is beating faster thinking about the planning of it. Grin

OP posts:
PicklingGherkins · 24/02/2018 19:02

I'm with the OP although I'm better now I found a sandwich I like. Italian bmt on the herby bread (whatever that's called), cheese and toasted, lettuce, sweetcorn, olives, onions and some sauce who's name I've forgotten. Oh god, I can't remember the name of the sauce and I'm going this week. I daren't deviate from this as I had a few duff sandwich combos in the early days which I ordered in panic. No-one should have tikka chicken with some form of marie rose sauce.

I assure you I'm a capable, professional adult who manages the rest of life just fine.

Clandestino · 24/02/2018 19:02

I hate Subway. Don't know how they manage to have zillions of options and at the end it all tastes like polystyrene. DD used to like it in her bland food stage but I would be just sitting there and wait till she was finished.

k2p2k2tog · 24/02/2018 19:05

It's really not difficult. Never fails to astonish me how many people seem to hate having to talk to people or interact with people in a shop.

Oh and make mine a chicken tikka on hearty italian with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and olives. Cheese and toasted. No sauce.

Firesuit · 24/02/2018 19:12

On the couple of occasions in my life I've had to order, I just ask for sub of the day. It's stress-free and also cheaper (I think.)

Spangles1963 · 24/02/2018 19:23

I get annoyed at places that only have the menu board up behind the counter. I can't see it until I'm standing right next to the counter,so of course a member of staff pounces on me and asks me what I would like before I've barely glanced at the menu. Meanwhile,a huge queue is tutting and huffing behind me. I used to think it was a legal requirement that eating places over a certain size had to have a menu displayed BEFORE the ordering point,e.g. in the window, but I think I must have got this wrong as hardly anywhere seems to do this now.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 24/02/2018 19:25

For the person who asked 'how do you know if you like the sauces or bread' ...I know coz there's not much I don't like Grin . seriously though, if you aren't sure then just pick a bread you know you like (they do honey oat, wholewheat, plain white/Italian) and same with sauce. I'm a complete condiment lover so go as far as to have two on one sandwich sometimes

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 24/02/2018 19:26

@firesuit they have recently brought back the sub of the day (and there are some quite bold flavours, can't wait to try them) but they did stop it for quite a long time.
