To find ordering in subway stressful

Elizanotlittle · 24/02/2018 13:10

Just asked my oh what we should have for lunch suggested a KFC or a quiche from a local patisserie.

He suggested subway. It gave me the rage.

I actually don't mind the food but the ordering process and all the questions actually raises my anxiety levels. Especially if you want more than one sandwich.

I mean you can't just order and wait you have to constantly speak and wait and the queue always takes ages.

Aibu? Anyone else?

Yes to all of this, and the one and only time I did actually order something I was so confused by the lack of vegetarian options I just ordered their vegetarian 'special', which turned out to be a couple of slices of tasteless cheap cheese. How the fuck is that 'special'? I also think the smell of the place is rank. Don't get the hype Confused

NotSoSprightly · 24/02/2018 14:25

YANBU, just thinking about it is giving me anxiety!

NotACleverName · 24/02/2018 14:28

I do wonder how some of you manage to cope on a day-to-day basis if you struggle to order a sandwich at Subway.

JaneEyre70 · 24/02/2018 14:28

I've had a few with my DDs and really don't get the fuss. They are so overfilled you can't eat it without dropping most of it on your lap or on the floor, and as a vegetarian, it's pretty limiting unless you like processed cheese. I don't think it's as "healthy" as it claims.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 14:28

DS1 had tonsilitis and he really fancied a KFC. So off I go to the one with the touch screen board things.

I get there and they are off so take a deep breath and join the queue. At the point I am about to speak to the server the menu boards behind the counter change to a huge picture. I then wait for it to change back, completely panic then order what I think which isn't what DS1 wanted and sides and who knows what else.

Drove home wondering what just happened...

CauliflowerBalti · 24/02/2018 14:29

Super stressful. YANBU.

TroysMammy · 24/02/2018 14:32

I had one - once. Will never repeat the "experience". I nearly said I just fucking want a white baguette with ham and cheese, please.

sinceyouask · 24/02/2018 14:32

Subway is easy for me if I'm on my own, because I am always going to have a six inch veggie on wheat, cheese, not toasted, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and sweetcorn, little bit of mayonnaise. But if I take the dc, argh, the faff and stress of it!

The80sweregreat · 24/02/2018 14:35

Ive found my people! I thought it was me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 14:39

Why don't they have dithering points near the entrance where people who need to think about their choices or who can't bloody well see what the menu behind the tills says can choose quietly in peace without a seething mass behind them? With little stubs of paper like argos. It would save a lot of panic.

I very rarely eat fast food and I'm also crap at languages so one of my proudest moments last year was walking into a McDonalds in France and ordering myself some food in French. I was really perplexed by the fact that they seemed to have a separate macaroon counter.

MrMeSeeks · 24/02/2018 14:45

Can't say i've ever had a problem ordering a sandwich in subway.
They ask what i want, i answer, job done, nice sandwich.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 14:47

My ordering problems are related to the fact I am not the one eating. If it was they couldn't go far wrong whatever they did, I would probably eat it but the teens know what they like.

velouria · 24/02/2018 14:52

I only ever get the same thing so it's fine, Italian herb and cheese, steak and cheese, all the salad no olives or sweet corn, mayo. Easy Grin

Doje · 24/02/2018 14:55

The first time I went in, I had no idea what I was in for and was traumatised. It took me another two years to step foot into another Subway. That time I followed my friend who had pressured me into going in again and just said "the same as him". Every time the server the server looked at me, I just nodded towards my friend and said "whatever he did".

Third time I went in and just ordered a coffee.

LockedOutOfMN · 24/02/2018 14:56

Never had a Surprise, but this thread is making me hungry.

LemonysSnicket · 24/02/2018 14:57

I hate he choice but now know my perfect sandwich.

Double cheese on hearty Italian with excessive gherkins and olives, toasted +mayo.

The staff always look horrified but it’s lovely

Clevs · 24/02/2018 14:57

I don’t find it difficult ordering in Subway, but I do find it frustrating. I always have the steak and cheese, and ask for a steak and cheese. Nine times out of ten I’ll get asked if I want cheese on that Confused.

I’m also annoyed that a) they have switched to Pepsi instead of Coke and b) no longer sell full fat Pepsi and I have to have Pepsi MaxSad

They always put my sandwich in a plastic bag as well, even if I say I’m eating in and don’t need a bag.

Groovee · 24/02/2018 15:01

I do it all the time. Find the staff in my local one great x

grumpymacgrumpface · 24/02/2018 15:06

Have never set foot in a Subway - not being a food snob but I just think they smell of sick when you walk past so can't imagine what it's like inside.

lilcolibri · 24/02/2018 15:10

I don't get why they have to ask about every single item.

I want the sandwich as it's listed on the menu.

Don't ask me 100000 questions, just make me the sandwich I've asked for. If I didn't want something in the ingredients, THEN i'd say!

What a palaver. I've been twice and will never go back.

SlothMama · 24/02/2018 15:19

I don't understand how ordering a sub is difficult? Choose your bread and filling, do you want cheese on it and toasted. Then your salad and sauce? Simples.

Subway over KFC anyday!

Slitherout · 24/02/2018 15:20

I don't mind Subway but drive thrus terrify me as PPs have said. What drives me mad with Subway is I don't like sauces so I always say no thanks to that, and too many times get some combination of "are you sure?", "no sauce at all?", "that'll be very dry", "we don't put butter on you know so it will be dry", "you really don't want sauce?". One guy was so off with me about it I got shirty with him and pointed out if I was expected to pay for the sandwich I would dictate what was put on it! Angry

metalmum15 · 24/02/2018 15:27

Third time I went in and just ordered a coffee

😂😂

Carouselfish · 24/02/2018 15:28

Despite being a confident person, when I was younger I had to get a friend to order for me a couple of times in Subway until I learned how you did it...
Don't go there now I know they're halal.

MrsPreston11 · 24/02/2018 15:31

Can you not look online and decide what you’re having beforehand? I don’t find it overly fast, there’s plenty of time to look at the veg etc. And you could always let others past while you decide on your meat and bread.

6” Honey Oat with Ham and Turkey, all the veg except red onion and chillies, and Southwest Sauce.
