To campaign for a blanket ban on the word ‘brunch’

I can’t bear it. Soooo pretentious...

Breakfast, lunch, late breakfast, early lunch - yes.
Brunch - no.

Everytime I see an Insta photo hashtagged brunch I inwardly sigh.

Am I the only one? Are you a bruncher too? If so, shame on you 😄

Myfriend lives in the middle east they brunch every other day sure it is just an excuse to drink bucksfizz Grin

zozozoo · 19/02/2018 21:23

It's supposed to be a larger meal to take the place of both breakfast and lunch...

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 19/02/2018 21:23

I like the work brunch! But only if you’re actually going out to somewhere that serves it... brunch doesn’t exist at home.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 19/02/2018 21:24

Word*

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2018 21:24

I love brunch. I go out for brunch all the time.

Too late for breakfast too early for lunch, but if you eat the right stuff it keeps you going til dinner.

Mum2jenny · 19/02/2018 21:25

I quite like the word 'brunch' as it is a mixture of breakfast and lunch and you can have the bits you like most.

littlepill · 19/02/2018 21:25

Must admit I used it the other day and cringed inwardly as I typed it.

It's up there with
cuppa
dunno
mumster
and others I wish I could replace...

Katjolo · 19/02/2018 21:26

MrsJayy · 19/02/2018 21:27

MrsJayy · 19/02/2018 21:29

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 19/02/2018 21:31

Nah, love it.
Fucking hate could of, should of etc though

museumum · 19/02/2018 21:32

You can’t have breakfast at midday. Nor a fry-up for lunch.
Brunch is the only suitable description.

Eliza9917 · 19/02/2018 21:32

I love brunch too.

Do northerners have brunch seeing as they don't call lunch, lunch? I suppose they could call it brinner?

BroccoliOnTheFloor · 19/02/2018 21:34

NOOOOOO!!!

Best meal of the day. Steak and eggs for breakfast? Cocktails at 11 am? Bottomless coffee? Hello?

Why do you HATE FUN?

iklboo · 19/02/2018 21:35

It's not new, not hipster, not trendy. The word has been in use since the late 1800s. Wink

Parker231 · 19/02/2018 21:35

We have brunch most weekends. Go at about 10.30 to our favorite place and have a lovely combined breakfast/lunch. Have been going to the same place for years. When DT’s were little, DH use to take them on a Sunday so I could have a lie in.

5foot5 · 19/02/2018 21:35

Sometimes we have the "full English" for our evening meal and DD has coined it "brinner", as in breakfast for dinner. Is that any better?

Patienceisvirtuous · 19/02/2018 21:36

I’m North East Eliza and I have lunch 😀 but yes, ’brinner’ probably more appropriate!

Oh well, I guess this thread may serve as exposure therapy at least 😄

I live in the Caribbean and, much like the Middle East, we brunch all the time - frankly it should be one of our national pastimes.

I bloody love the word Brunch, mainly because it means I get to stuff my face, drink endless champagne and then catch up with friends at a beach bar.

I don't use the word brunch for any other reason though and definitely wouldn't use it if I'd made a concoction of breakfast/lunch myself at home.

No, brunch is only to be used if it comes complete with endless champagne and a cocktail bar.

Patienceisvirtuous · 19/02/2018 21:38

I mean I’m all for drinking fizz as early as poss. Not if it means I have to say brunch though.

Pfftkids · 19/02/2018 21:39

You can't ban brunch! I'll starve at the weekends 😢

Backingvocals · 19/02/2018 21:40

Brunch is the best meal of them all. On a par with Christmas dinner that you eat at lunchtime not dinner time.

Eggs benedict plus endless cappuccinos is what I like to have for brunch. Mmmm brunch Grin

NinjagoNinja · 19/02/2018 21:42

Do northerners have brunch seeing as they don't call lunch, lunch? I suppose they could call it brinner

Could you sounds any more sneering?

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/02/2018 21:43

Oh I love brunch - lie in on a Sunday followed by stack of pancakes, crispy bacon, maple syrup and coffee. No need for food till evening.
