To campaign for a blanket ban on the word ‘brunch’

I can’t bear it. Soooo pretentious...

Breakfast, lunch, late breakfast, early lunch - yes.
Brunch - no.

Everytime I see an Insta photo hashtagged brunch I inwardly sigh.

Am I the only one? Are you a bruncher too? If so, shame on you 😄

Sups has to look all casual and boho, but in fact takes hours of prep to get the flowers looking artfully unarranged. And to source the organic, locally produced ingredients.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2018 09:27

What? Not just a Charlie Bighams with some frozen garlic bread? Sups sounds like hard work.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/02/2018 09:28

Sparkling I'm not angry with you, just disappointed. You need to get with the sups programme Wink

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2018 09:35

Yes there is clearly work to be done here. Maybe there's a 'Sups' nightclass I could attend or an online course?

Patienceisvirtuous · 21/02/2018 20:01

Lol @Princess9891 😂

I definitely thought I could ban a word. Grip gratefully accepted 👍

S’up?

Hope all the brunchers are looking forward to their pancakes, spinach, bloody mary’s and rustic black pud come the weekend x

Sups?

We have pretentious friends that invite us over for a 'kitchen supper' Confused

Quite like brunch though.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2018 20:04

There's still 55 minutes to go before sups.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 21/02/2018 20:09

YANBU OP

The word makes me inwardly cringe too, but I have no idea why

I'm quite partial to a late morning fry up on a weekend but you will never hear the B word pass my lips

HoarseMackerel · 21/02/2018 20:11

I only ever use the word brunch in a jokey sort of way and with a fake posh accent!

I don't mind it though. It's a weekend word to use when you got up way past breakfast!

GerdaLovesLili · 21/02/2018 20:12

Is elevenses better? I prefer brunch though!

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2018 20:15

Elevenses is morning coffee and cake. IMO. Fills the gap between breakfast and lunch if you aren't having BRUNCH. Grin

Patienceisvirtuous · 21/02/2018 21:38

Elevenses is a Mr Kipling slice with your cuppa 😄

I’ve had sups early - half a peanut butter KitKat with DH

Yabvu nothing wrong with brunch or any other meal time

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/02/2018 12:57

Nothing much wrong with 'brunch'; it's an established term
However 'socmed' is nonsensical and trying too hard. Makes me think of Mean Girls "stop trying to make fetch happen"

TheDowagerCuntess · 25/02/2018 17:30

The Daily Mash story just came up on my FB feed too - hilarious!
