WIBU re. GINGER hair?

I have ginger hair. Long, lustrous ginger hair.

Not auburn, or anything like that... it's ginger. GINGER.

Lovely long ginger tresses that shine like copper in the sun.

People actually gasp in awestruck admiration as I trot past, my long ginger hair flowing out behind me like a mane of fire.

So.

I was having a coffee with a friend the other day, when they said, apropos of nothing, 'Oh, you're hair's not really ginger, you know, it's.... [and i can barely bring myself to type the words].... STRAWBERRY BLONDE.'

So I killed them.

I too am ginger.

Don't understand strawberry blond as strawberries are red. Or "redhead" as again, that would mean your hair was red. Red is the colour that a postbox is. Ginger is a shade of orange not a shade of red

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2018 21:02

I believe she has revealed a passion for polo mints and an intense dislike blacksmiths, Diseases.

People who take notice of "Please do not feed this horse as she is a greedy bastard" signs are also the subjects of her wrath on occasion.

natwebb79 · 15/02/2018 21:04

I salute people with gorgeous ginger hair. As somebody born 'mousey' I spend good money trying to replicate your lovely locks. Reginald D Hunter speaks sense in this clip.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 15/02/2018 21:05

You seem to know her very well, schadenfreude - she is a greedy bastard*. Though she's also very fond of a blacksmith (couldn't eat a whole one though...)

*I'm sure the OP has a dainty, feminine appetite and doesn't shovel in hay by the barrow load, actually Blush

Oh my god! I've found my people!!!

BexConnor · 15/02/2018 21:10

Absolutely not!
I had bright ginger hair when I was a kid, really fiery and warm. Hated it at the time as kids at school took the piss out of me. Now as I've gotten older my hair has lightened to a sort of reddish blonde and to be honest I really miss it!

I have honestly never understood the 'ginger hate' out there. You can't help your (natural) hair colour any more than you can help the colour of your skin.

Her hair looks like we’ve put highlights in it it’s so tonal, especially in the summer. A few times we’ve had people stop to comment on her hair, usually elderly ladies who say they had hair just like hers.

I love it and feel sorry for her sister who seems to have inherited mine and her dads boring brown locks.

Thewindsofchange · 15/02/2018 21:27

Strawberry blonde is pale/light ginger. Auburn is dark ginger.

Ds is proper ginger. As in bright orange. He insists that it is orange, not red or ginger.

From what I've heard both parents have to have the ginger gene for their kids to have it.

Anyone who wants to be revered for their red hair should go to the Far East!

isseywithcats · 15/02/2018 21:32

mine came from my scottish grandmother dad had black hair mom had mousey brown hair so may be something in the skips a generation, im the only one of us five who has the red gene and my children didnt get the res either but one of my grandaughters has the most glorious thick wavy strawberry blonde hair

2018SoFarSoGreat · 15/02/2018 21:44

long ago and blurry but ginger none the less!

Lellochip · 15/02/2018 21:45

Ginger hair is the best, I've been faking it for so long everyone assumes it's natural, but sadly it takes hours of faffing with henna to hide my natural mousey colour.

It's a nightmare, dread it whenever my roots need touching up. It's time-consuming, messy and as permanent as it gets... But ooh it does make pretty colours!

ItsNachoCheese · 15/02/2018 21:51

Here i am in all my ginger glory. I used to hate my hair colour growing up (i got bullied) but ive realised its part of what makes me me so i love it for that reason. My annoyance is why bully someone because of their hair colour? If i were a blonde or brunette id of got nowhere near the amount of grief i got at school when i was younger :(

Your DD has beautiful hair but it's not ginger?

UterusUterusGhali · 15/02/2018 22:04

What's the problem with calling it "ginger" hair, for all those who objected?
Surely it's like brunette for brown-haired folks?
People don't say "yellow-haired" or "orange-haired" do they?

lashestans · 15/02/2018 22:08

3 of the people who have posted photos here of ginger hair aren't even ginger? Blush

ItsNachoCheese · 15/02/2018 22:12

Im not carrot orange ginger more a lighter shade of it but ginger all the same. My hairdresser tells me every time i think about dyeing my hair again and she tells me not to ruin a gorgeous colour

Ollivander84 · 15/02/2018 22:12

I'm very definitely ginger Grin mine has faded down in the last few years. Didn't realise until I saw an old photo and went Shock

PrincessHairyMclary · 15/02/2018 22:16

Issey Red hair is a recessive gene so requires one to be carried by both parents in order for the child to have that trait. It's why red heads are so rare.

tapdancingmum · 15/02/2018 22:22

I'm was a ginger who has got more Auburn as I've aged. My DD1 came out with Auburn hair and we both have brown eyes. I tan but she doesn't and she is so pale she's nearly see through. I'm 49 and am still red as apparently we don't go grey as quick as other colours. I have some streaks of silver and my hairdresser is amazed I have never dyed it. My DD got so excited last week as IOS have finally added gingers to their emoji's that she sent me a whole stack of them. I love being red but the kids at school call my colour brown as to them red is red!

SugarPlumFerry · 15/02/2018 22:29

YANBU at all.

I made a stunning fire haired ginger. It properly infuriates me when people refuse to acknowledge his beauty say "he's not reeeaally ginger..."

HIS HAIR IS ORANGE FFS!

Of course, I am gingering vicariously through him because I am only auburn Sad

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 15/02/2018 22:32

I'm a redhead, and I do hate being called ginger, too many bad memories of being harassed and shouted at. I'm in Scotland so ginger also means fizzy drink. And having "Hey, GINGER MINGE!!" roared at you as a teenager, by grown men, was mortifying.
I didn't learn to like my hair until my late teens, when it was like Meredith's in Brave! Sadly time has taken its toll, and it is no longer as fiery or curly. The white streaks are a pain, as it's too hard to match it, so I need to spend a fortune at the hairdressers getting it done properly!
I was glad none of my dc were "ginger", not because I don't like it, I think it's beautiful, but to spare them the teasing/ bullying.
Gingers do have souls Sad

ItsNachoCheese · 15/02/2018 22:36

theplatypusalwaystriumphs i said the exact same thing when pregnant with ds. Also in scotland and well aware of the snash us ginger haired lovelies entail :( im in a way glad ds has blondeish brown hair

2018SoFarSoGreat · 15/02/2018 22:37

I feel your pain, Platypus - I got them all at school:

Ginger, You're barmy, you're awfy like yer mammy

Ginger hair, carrot nose, pull the plug and away she goes

Ginger Minger

Ginger fizz, ginger frizz

Carrot Top

I've probably blocked some. Was literally terrorized through primary school and beyond.

Mysideofthings · 15/02/2018 22:38

I wouldn't wish ginger hair on my worst enemy. My condolences, OP.
