WIBU re. GINGER hair?

I have ginger hair. Long, lustrous ginger hair.

Not auburn, or anything like that... it's ginger. GINGER.

Lovely long ginger tresses that shine like copper in the sun.

People actually gasp in awestruck admiration as I trot past, my long ginger hair flowing out behind me like a mane of fire.

So.

I was having a coffee with a friend the other day, when they said, apropos of nothing, 'Oh, you're hair's not really ginger, you know, it's.... [and i can barely bring myself to type the words].... STRAWBERRY BLONDE.'

So I killed them.

My son’s hairs as ginger when he was born, but it’s now a lovely strawberry blonde. I like it. I don’t get the criticism for strawberry blonde - strawberry blonde can be just as nice as ginger!

Notevilstepmother · 15/02/2018 17:01

I thought strawberry blonde was reddish blonde? Like this.

I would kill someone who called me ginger. Red. It's red. But kill who you like, YABU.

supersop60 · 15/02/2018 17:02

Yanbu. I killed someone for saying my hair looked mousey in a certain light.
It's fading with age, sadly, but my dcs are reluctantlyflying the ginger flag.

Notevilstepmother · 15/02/2018 17:04

YABU to not show us your lovely hair. Just from the back for privacy. Or a proper annotated diagram of where you hid the body showing all parked cars Grin

IAmMumWho · 15/02/2018 17:04

I love ginger hair

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 15/02/2018 17:05

I’m a brunette but I have no issues with ginger hair. Some people I know really hate ginger hair. It’s just a hair colour it doesn’t define you. I said to one friend that I have a bit of a crush on rupertgrint from Harry Potter, she almost chok3d on her drink laughing. I really don’t get the issue

2018SoFarSoGreat · 15/02/2018 17:05

Strawberry blonde. Being identified as that is about the worst insult I ever got - call it Red, Carrot, Ginger, Orange even. I'm proud of all. But not the dreaded BS of SB. As I aged I found myself Blush becoming a true SBer. The horror. I actually found I no longer felt like me. Some blondish critter looking at me in the mirror? Nope. Just nope. Beautiful on some people, but not for me.

I hated my ginger hair as a kid; taunted mercilessly for it. The bane of my life. I now lament it's loss daily. And dye it a weird approximation.

BuzzKillington · 15/02/2018 17:05

My (ginger) friend goes mental if anyone says she's ginger.

It's a minefield.

SaskaTchewan · 15/02/2018 17:06

Ignore the point of losing weight, completely irrelevant on this , just look at the last photo

Yanbu op, strawberry bloody blonde :( I think the whole red hair spectrum is lush Star we need a ginger power emoji on here. I have alopecia so no bias here Grin

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 15/02/2018 17:06

DD3 has copper coloured hair, which glows in the sun, absolutely gorgeous. She has a great line in withering looks when teenage boys try to tease her about being ginger, and always agrees if they ask if it's true gingers have no souls. She asks them if they know why, they say no, she says "it's so we can suck souls out of people who annoy us", and grins as they back away, not entirely sure if she's lying or not. I'm so proud that her expensive drama lessons have been put to such good use Wink

ALemonyPea · 15/02/2018 17:09

My MIL was utterly disgusted that I even suggested her son (my DH) was ginger. He is strawberry blonde, thank you very much.

She had no issues saying our two DS were ginger though Hmm

DS3 is the odd one out, he has dark brown hair like me. He wants to dye his hair ginger when he is old enough to.

Fekko · 15/02/2018 17:10

When do the red haired emojis happen? I’ve been waiting...

Elendon · 15/02/2018 17:10

I get you. This is a gorgeous collection of gorgeous people with gorgeous ginger hair.

Ginger, copper, red. All the same. DS has amazing ginger hair,
Brown eyes, and tans. His sister is well jel.
I hate ginger shaming. What's wrong with it fgs? People are odd sometimes.
I caught a local
Radio host (I know, not the brightest sparks) saying ' ho ho ho at least he's not ginger' about something inane the other day. I rang the radio station to complain!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/02/2018 17:12

I'm so jealous. I'd love to have natural ginger hair. Have you got blue eyes as well.
Ginger hair and blue eyes are a gorgeous Combo.

TerfsUp · 15/02/2018 17:12

YWNBU.

mari652 · 15/02/2018 17:12

I love ginger, auburn, all shades of red. my grandmother had beautiful deep auburn hair - missed me, I took after my fathers side with nearly black brown hair. Was thrilled when my daughter had blond with a touch of red when a toddler, thought it might deepen to redder but instead it is brown. A glossy brown but only reddish highlights in the sun. I hate that children and adults are bullied for having red hair 😡

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 15/02/2018 17:14

I think ginger hair is very attractive.

This was in the mail today (link is to the wales today paper )

Some of the comments on the DM were ghastly. Gwilym is one good looking chap.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 15/02/2018 17:15

Oh just noticed someone else has already posted it on here. Clearly big Gwilly has a lot of fans on MN Wink

Fekko · 15/02/2018 17:15

Not keen on beards but that is a magnificent head of hair!

HidingFromDD · 15/02/2018 17:16

I'm another ginger who now, with age, is a definite 'strawberry blonde'. It really confuses me when people at work refer to me as blonde (I've only been here a few years), I don't identify as a blonde I identify as a ginger. Whilst some areas have retained their glorious gingerness I don't think it's appropriate to start brandishing them at work Grin
