WIBU re. GINGER hair?

Doctroo · 15/02/2018 16:19

I have ginger hair. Long, lustrous ginger hair.

Not auburn, or anything like that... it's ginger. GINGER.

Lovely long ginger tresses that shine like copper in the sun.

People actually gasp in awestruck admiration as I trot past, my long ginger hair flowing out behind me like a mane of fire.

So.

I was having a coffee with a friend the other day, when they said, apropos of nothing, 'Oh, you're hair's not really ginger, you know, it's.... [and i can barely bring myself to type the words].... STRAWBERRY BLONDE.'

So I killed them.

My DH and DS both have red hair - I took my lead from DH and have never called it ginger, although I’ve never thought of ginger hair as being anything negative anyway.

DD is still a baby but her hair is the most beautiful colour, just like rose gold.

It has always confused me why red hair, of any shade, is seen as something to tease people about. What’s not to like?! It’s gorgeous!

cjferg · 15/02/2018 16:40

Strawberry blonde is for gingers in denial

k2p2k2tog · 15/02/2018 16:40

I don't have red hair but my son does. I hate the word "ginger". He is a red head. Or he has red hair. He is not "ginger".

BarbarianMum · 15/02/2018 16:44

I had a friend with hair that sounds a lot like yours. She killed anyone who used the word ginger. She was "strawberry blonde" apparently.

From this I learnt never to comment upon hair of that particular colour, no matter how gorgeous (and it is gorgeous Envy).

Gingernaut · 15/02/2018 16:44

My hair is titian coloured.

Actually it really is the colour of a McVitie's Ginger Nut.

I have had to kill people who called me ginger.

People must learn.

I was a carrot top as a kid, a proper full on head of orange curls and a freckly face to go with it. I always loved it and can't understand (fifty years later) how this fad for taking the piss out of hair colour gained traction. My friend's daughter has the most amazing ginger hair too (like the OP describes) it used to just fall into the most beautiful ringlets when she was smaller and the only PITA was getting her from A to B because so many people stopped her Mum to admire it.

I'm grey now lol - so I dye it some approximation. Wink

Doctroo · 15/02/2018 16:45

YESSSSS!

We are the master race.

If only the new Doctor Who was ginger, that would be the icing on the cake. She dyes it anyway so there is still hope!

Whatshallidonow - ghaaaa! I meant 'your' obv... Off now to flagellate myself.

Not unreasonable in the slightest!!

Strawberry blonde is a nonsense colour used by those who are afraid of the power of ginger.

Cabininthewoods69 · 15/02/2018 16:46

Another ginger here. I used to dye it as I cared what people said. Not it's long and ginger and I love it

mumpoints · 15/02/2018 16:46

Is Strawberry Blonde really Ginger then? I thought it was blonde out of a bottle for some reason!

mimibunz · 15/02/2018 16:46

NU at all! They had to die. Gingers rock!

Loveache · 15/02/2018 16:46

I have red hair. Where I come from, 'ginger' is used abusively rather than simply descriptively. I hate that word to my core.

Singleandproud · 15/02/2018 16:47

DD has ginger hair although titian is the actual colour. It is so beautiful in the sun and looks just like flames of fire. she always gets complimented on it.

MurunB · 15/02/2018 16:47

GINGER AND PROUD.

KTB.

Fekko · 15/02/2018 16:48

No no no no no no no no
Not ginger. Ginger is brownish if in a jar or creamy with a brown skin of fresh.

‘Oi - gin-jaaaahhhhh minj-aaaaah’ makes my skin crawl.

And breathe.....

Fekko · 15/02/2018 16:49

And strawberry blonde to me is a pale version or red hair.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/02/2018 16:50

People gasp in awestruck admiration as I trot past, my long ginger hair flowing out behind me like a mane

Are people really gasping audibly? And can we clear up whether you're a person or a horse.

OutyMcOutface · 15/02/2018 16:50

Are you sure it's actually ginger ginger? Ginger and strawberry blonde are completely different things to me.

Ohyesiam · 15/02/2018 16:51

Ginger is as ginger does.

k2p2k2tog · 15/02/2018 16:52

DS is one of three children in his class with red hair. He's never been teased about it because it's not that unusual. He loves his red hair - and it makes it easy to pick him out quickly in a crowd.

Fekko · 15/02/2018 16:53

I always say that my 2 are too hard to pick out in a crowd as they have ‘boring hair’.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 15/02/2018 16:53

YANBU.

DingDongDenny · 15/02/2018 16:55

I had this when I was a kid - Someone would say ' What lovely ginger hair' and my mum would always say 'It's Strawberry Blonde'

I knew it was ginger...... they knew it was ginger.....awkward silence

Lweji · 15/02/2018 16:56

When they find the body, just tell the police what they said. They won't have the heart to arrest you.

UnimaginativeUsername · 15/02/2018 16:59

I always say that my 2 are too hard to pick out in a crowd as they have ‘boring hair’.

DS2 has hair in that dark blonde/light brown colour extremely common among British kids his age. And a haircut that can broadly be described as short back and sides. So he’s tough to pick out of a crowd!
