WIBU re. GINGER hair?

Doctroo · 15/02/2018 16:19

I have ginger hair. Long, lustrous ginger hair.

Not auburn, or anything like that... it's ginger. GINGER.

Lovely long ginger tresses that shine like copper in the sun.

People actually gasp in awestruck admiration as I trot past, my long ginger hair flowing out behind me like a mane of fire.

So.

I was having a coffee with a friend the other day, when they said, apropos of nothing, 'Oh, you're hair's not really ginger, you know, it's.... [and i can barely bring myself to type the words].... STRAWBERRY BLONDE.'

So I killed them.

I had a comment last year by a drunken arse and his mate.

I was so surprised (and monumentally pissed off) I hollared at the top of my lungs ‘what the fuck did you say? What is your fucking problem??’. And I have a very loud voice.

I don’t think they were expecting that but hey, it shut them up and I hope they learned something. Treat your elders with more respect in future... and never tangle with a red. I think they got off lightly.

Oblomov18 · 15/02/2018 18:40

There are loads of different colours: copper, strawberry blonde, etc.

Ds2 is ginger-de-la-ginger and uber proud.

But why would it bother you if someone, in their opinion, described it as a different shade.

I don't see the issue.

Loveache · 15/02/2018 18:44

Two teenage girls threw a stone at me last year whilst shouting 'ginger bitch'.
I'm 33.

ReinettePompadour · 15/02/2018 19:00

I've just shown ds (not very ginger but definitely a red) that article about Gwilymand he's just declared thats what he looks like. He's 10 so not quite the same but theres hope he might turn into a 'Gwilym' in the future.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/02/2018 19:06

Dd is eleven and ginger. We call her ginger ninja.

When she started nursery we were asked to not call her ginger, they preffered redhead or auburn as ginger was an abusive term. Had to put them straight and argue the toss that she was definitely ginger.

As she herself says "gingers are taking over the world"!

gravy45 · 15/02/2018 19:10

I'm not sure people gasp in awe when you walk past though 😂

Fekko · 15/02/2018 19:13

Oh, they gasp when I walk by.

It may be more shock than awe though...

BillywigSting · 15/02/2018 19:32

Yanbu! I spent an absolute fortune and more time than I would care to admit trying to get my hair ginger.

The was a mum at on of the baby groups I used to go to who had hair that sounds much like yours. I was in awe of it. It was shampoo ad beautiful.

She probably would have (quite rightly) murdered anyone who even thought about saying she was strawberry blonde.

It's a totally different colour (and not as lovely, sorry to anyone out there is sb)

Want2beme · 15/02/2018 19:47

I remember watching this a few years back.

I'm not gInger, but would love to be.

spugzbunny · 15/02/2018 20:24

I'm ginger. A full blown nature proud ginger. If anyone even dares call me strawberry blonde or auburn I do not hesitate to punch them in their stupid face.

I got your back brethren

BettyMorris · 15/02/2018 20:43

DS is blonde with a red hint so I suppose he's strawberry blonde and has huge baby blue eyes. To be fair that was a surprise as both DH and I are very dark with green eyes. My Grandma was a redhead so it is in the genetics. My uncle is full Tahitian Sunset.

There is a girl who loves near me who had the most glorious hair, full red, wild curls. She's about 14 and she fucking OWNS it.

BettyMorris · 15/02/2018 20:43

*lives near me, fucking autocorrect.

LucyAutumn · 15/02/2018 20:44

I think sometimes people use the words 'strawberry blond' because ginger is commonly used in a negative light. Its all bollocks though, ginger is beautiful and good on you for being proud of your firey mane.

laudanum · 15/02/2018 20:48

I hope you strangled them with your hair.

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/02/2018 20:49

It’s not hate for strawberry blondes!

It’s hate for people who think 'ginger' is an insult and use every euphemism going to describe ginger hair because they’re dumbasses.

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/02/2018 20:51

FYI I’m sort of the opposite of strawberry blonde - my red is still there but is getting darker as I get older.

Not a sniff of greys though, definite benefit

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2018 20:52

Red - ginger - Titian - all fabulous shades! (When I think of the money I've spent trying to acheive this lustrous colour . . . Sad )

To be described as a "strawberry blonde" (whatever the fuck that is) is an insult!

However you killed them - I hope it hurt them a LOT!

rightknockered · 15/02/2018 20:56

YANBU. I love ginger hair. Have been obsessed with it since 8 years old, when I had the good fortune of living next door to a family of redheads. Wanted it every since. Nearest I have got is copper. So sorry you had to go through that trauma

Owlish · 15/02/2018 20:56

We should celebrate our luscious ginger locks by posting photos! We should also have our own hashtag #gingerandproud Grin

Currently dating someone ginger, with ginger beard. Lush

jpclarke · 15/02/2018 20:58

I have red hair, I HATE anyone describing my hair as ginger

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 15/02/2018 20:58

I have a ginger horse, and I have been known to gasp as she trots by.

I'm now slightly concerned she's on mumsnet. Has the OP got a history of posting about the unreasonable restriction of carrots in her diet, or that time she was nearly mauled by the terrifying tiny, harmless yard cat cheetah?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2018 20:58

I recently (just yesterday, as it happens) learned that if you drink tea without milk you will have ginger babies. Unfortunately I didn't find this out soon enough and my two (now adult) children have very dark chestnut hair. (Oh, those wasted years . . . )

I think scientists should make this information more widely available. If it wasn't for a wumman at our church, I would still be ignorant of this fact.

Owlish · 15/02/2018 20:59

I actually took this photo earlier today to show a friend how vivid my hair still is at 51. So e9ne actually to.d me they thought my hair was 'auburn' the other day. The cheek! Shock

Lulemon · 15/02/2018 20:59

Oh op, I was having such a bad day, and reading about your ‘awestruck admiration’ made me laugh out loud. Thank you x
