There is no thought of course, for this poor woman, who is mid way through the trans gender process, may not wish to be viewed as male and set upon by the sex starved inmates, who, not to put too fine a point on it, would like a male portion

Theglobe · 14/02/2018 11:03

MrPan, we could go deeply down this route, but as someone who has worked both male and female, I can tell you that women’s prison is a lot easier than men’s.

I also think people need to realise that moving a prisoner from one jail to another carries an awful lot of risk assessments. Moving a prisoner from male to female or vice versa is something that doesn’t happen easily at all. Just because a con says he is now a she, ain’t going to get them a move. Knowing the prison service the most they will get is two paracetamol and told to fuck off!

stitchglitched · 14/02/2018 11:03

This individual has had no surgery, is a violent offender and is in a woman's prison. Can anybody who is being dismissive on this thread please explain why this is okay?

noeffingidea · 14/02/2018 11:05

Hollybaytree they are two seperate things. All prisoners should be protected from harm. That doesn't mean a biological male should be placed in a woman's prison, or allowed to enter women's sports competitions.

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2018 11:06

Indeed this “ poor “ person is a convicted murderer

Theglobe · 14/02/2018 11:06

Ok stitch, which part of the jail? Seg? Healthcare? Or just on the landing? If she’s mainly behind a door in a single cell, what threat is she?

Indeed this “ poor “ person is a convicted murderer and we dont know the circumstance that lead her up that path. But just because she is there, that doesnt make her a legitimate target for sexual abuse.

stitchglitched · 14/02/2018 11:10

Well clearly not segregated since they are in the showers at the same time as female inmates, some of whom are upset by it. If there is no threat to women by being mainly in a single cell, why doesn't this work in reverse? Why can't they be in a single cell in a male prison?

MrPan · 14/02/2018 11:11

Theglobe - we could go deeply down, and I should also say I'm familiar with both mens and womens gaols and comparing them often leads me to say "it depends on exactly what you are comparing" but this isn't the purpose of the thread though..

and "because a con says he is now a she" and being told to fuck off is likely going to get that assessor and gaol dept guv into a whole pile of legal poo IF the GRA is reformed to allow self i-d, and fuck off is still the same response. To quote Baloo...get with the beat Baggie.

Please Its not even an aibu

Confused Anything can be an AIBU if you ask something and if you know, put AIBU in front of it. Hmm
bluescreen · 14/02/2018 11:18

Nope, the results of one Scottish jail's fitness competition affects literally no-one here. If anyone can PM me proof that they have been directly affected by this 'result' then I'll send them a fiver.

Yeah, right, no one here should be at all bothered about stories or competition 'results' that don't directly affect them. Confused Shut up and be nice, ladies!

noeffingidea · 14/02/2018 11:20

Hollybay no one is suggesting any prisoner should be sexually abused. If sexual abuse is a problem in male prisons then it needs to be adressed, not simply by moving over any at risk prisoner to the women's prison.
That still leaves all the other male prisoners who are at risk in the male prison who don't identify as women or have no wish to transition.

HomeTerf · 14/02/2018 11:24

HollyBayTree was there a bit in the article where it said this person had been a victim of sexual abuse? Or are you massively derailing the point with made up stuff?

stitchglitched · 14/02/2018 11:29

On the other hand, there absolutely will be female inmates who have been sexually abused who are now being forced to share intimate space with a violent murderer with a penis. And aren't allowed to object. I can boycott Topshop, these women can't go anywhere.

Theglobe · 14/02/2018 11:32

MrPan, I suspect that we are both desperately trying not to out ourselves!

We shall leave it here as discretion says I must, however I think you’re being overly pessimistic.

BigDeskBob · 14/02/2018 11:35

Holly, why we would women in prison be sex starved?

PositivelyPERF · 14/02/2018 11:35

So you’re going down the #nodebate route MasterWu Nice to see how open minded —and misogynistic— you are. 😒 At least their is no doubt about your view towards women now. P.S I assume from your username you are actually Chinese and a master?

PositivelyPERF · 14/02/2018 11:35

*There

MrPan · 14/02/2018 11:37

Possibly to avoid outtie things!

But no to the pessimistic thing. The latest "Care and Management of Transgendered Offenders" from NOMS in October last will need revising. It was in October when Greening annouced a review of the GRA and the poor bugger writing that massive doc must have broke down in tears...

and as you will know, prisoners will try anything on. Including a dress if they think it would help.

DrawingLife · 14/02/2018 11:41

Here we are. MasterWu is making my point from earlier beautifully. In order to argue for trans rights, the very logic of women's rights is being questioned and minimised. There's no difference between the needs of men and women, so women shouldn't complain. That's transphobic.

One small problem with your argument, MasterWu. Criminal convictions for serious crimes commited by men outnumber that of women by a factor of nearly 5. Most crimes against women are committed by men (and yes, most crimes against men are also committed by men, but that's a different story).

And anyway, this isn't about how "nice" the women are. If male prisoners were forced to compete against a gorilla in weight lifting in a male prison, I think we'd all acknowledge it wasn't exactly a fair contest.

DreamyMcDreamy · 14/02/2018 11:45

I hope that is NOT going to be a trans board. I want them the posts to stay on AIBU. Via these posts I have been made aware of this trans madness, the possible danger and eroding of women's safety and rights. Keep them coming, this affects all of us.

Same, I never took notice before and just thought "so what?" if someone wants to transition.Up to them. Until you start reading more into it and realise that you yourself as a woman are literally getting re-named and also effectively sidelined. Cis woman? That would be an actual, biological woman then. So a woman.
Angry
If you're so adamant that you are a woman, why separate yourself by re-labelling actual women? Surely you'd just call us all women. Or is it because you know there is actually a difference (biology!) but you don't want to admit it as anyone can and should be a woman even if they're a man?
It's absolute madness.

PositivelyPERF · 14/02/2018 11:45

Since Wu won’t answer my questions, since I refuse to be a handmaiden, would someone else like to ask it?

stitchglitched · 14/02/2018 11:47

I'm still waiting for an answer on why it's acceptable to force female inmates to share their intimate space including showers with a violent male.

HomeTerf · 14/02/2018 11:49

On another thread MasterWu has stated 'There is no patriarchy', so I think we can put him/her in the folder marked 'not worth engaging with.'
