Waters just broken, help!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 09:13

Waters broke at 5am this morning. rushed to the hospital who confirmed (no shit Sherlock it was like Niagra!!) but sent me home as no contractions. They have booked an induction for tomorrow morning.

Thing is i am 36+6 so they may not let me give birth in the birthing suite (only from 37 weeks) which is what i wanted. Ideally i need to start having contractions asap so i can avoid having the induction but go in late enough so that the doctors say yes to us going to the birthing suite.

Any advice to get contractions going much appreciated!!! currently sitting on a birthing ball to stay active, going to my happy place for oxytosin etc.

By the way i would recommend using an incontinence sheet, we only had ours from a few days ago and it not for that we would have ruined our bed. If it worked for me it will work for everyone. I shit you not it must have been about 2 litres in 1 minute!

In our unit the birthing suite is only used in spontaneous labour so you would probably be admitted at your gestation if you go into labour but not for induction. Sorry.

Do remember that you can still have pretty much all of the same delivery options on the delivery suite only medical assistance is on the spot if needed. It’s not second best.

Happy delivery.

SparklyMagpie · 01/02/2018 09:18

Hmmm I'm not sure you'll get your birthing suite OP :(
Who knows though

Either way eeeek baby Will be coming soon :D

JustVent · 01/02/2018 09:20

Definitely no shagging if your waters have broken.
Don’t eat curry either because you’ll get the squits and take it from me, you don’t want that if you want to go in the birthing pool. 🤮

Just keep bouncing. Have you got no twinges at all?

divadee · 01/02/2018 09:21

My waters broke at about 7am and I was having contractions albeit intermittent ones by about 11am. It quickly changed at 3pm and I went into full blown labour very quickly. Keep bouncing on the ball. Keep walking around.

Burstingwithlife · 01/02/2018 09:22

Exactly the same thing happened to me 2 years ago. My waters broke at 37 +6 the day before my booked induction. I wS 41 so it’s usual to only go to 38 weeks. My labour didn’t start until the following day. I was stressing as I really wanted a water birth. I’d had one previously. My husband and I walked around the hospital continually. We actually covered 13.5k!!! I wS pretty determined. My induction was booked for the next morning so my dh got me up early and had me trotting up and down the stairs. Within 5 minutes contractions started. I was really shattered though so don’t advise it. Raspberry leaf tea can trigger contractions, walking, dancing, bouncing and apparently tweaking nipples. Best of luck x

Breast pump has always worked for me to bring in contractions.
Keep moving but try and rest.
Good luck!

Annamadrigal · 01/02/2018 09:44

Walk, walk and walk some more!!!! My waters went at 36+4 but due to other complications I was induced. It was fine though, had heard horror stories about inductions but it was perfectly bearable!

Annamadrigal · 01/02/2018 09:45

Ooh, and good luck!! Flowers

MissDuke · 01/02/2018 09:56

Big long walk! Whatever will be will be, try and not stress. Either way, you are going to have a baby in the next couple of days, exciting times ahead Flowers

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 10:16

The doctor we spoke to did say that they would most likely let me onto the birth suite but obviously only if contractions started naturally before the induction.

I know we will have lots of the same options but the birthing suite has a larger room, personal water bath, ensuite bathroom etc and we only just had a tour of them and felt very at ease. the room i was in this morning felt more clinical and without lots of equipment that i saw downstairs.

Ah pp have said what will be will be but i am still optimistic about trying to stick to my birthplan. first step though is avoiding the induction if i can.

I have felt twinges yes, feel a bit like mild food poisoning, aching in my pelvis. i have had some tightening but thing that may just be him stretching (feels a bit like stitch)

Can anyone tell me what they will feel like without saying 'you will know when they happen' please xxx

When the pains start making you stop what you are doing. You’ll know lol.

Play with your nipples and errrr have a orgasm. The hormones released can kick start labour. No sex or anything else inside if your waters have gone though.

CuppaSarah · 01/02/2018 10:23

Go for a nice walk to buy some treats, you deserve something yummy! Try not to worry, this is exciting. You can't decide the outcome so try and go with the flow. In all likelihood you will begin to contract before bedtime, but if you don't you don't. It's not like you get a say is it? Either way you're baby is coming, you're going to be cuddling your bay in your arms! Really soon!!!

KatnissMellark · 01/02/2018 10:23

Up and down the stairs for me. A lot.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 01/02/2018 10:24

When you can’t talk through the pain it’s proper labour! I didn’t realise I was in labour the second time as I was induced the first time - had a bath to soothe my aching back and a couple of hours later I definitely knew!

BrickInTheWall · 01/02/2018 10:29

Don't put a time limit on yourself OP. You don't have to have induction tomorrow. It's different across different trusts but some are happy for you to go 72 hours after waters breaking before induction. That means your much more likely to start labour naturally and you'll be able to be in the birthing suite. I wouldn't go in for an induction again, I think it leads into more and more interventions.
Get some rest, hope everything goes well for you.

Findingdotty · 01/02/2018 10:30

My waters went 5am. Got up and pottered for a couple of hours then went for a long walk (2hrs) around the local park - drive there so we had the car if needed - then went to the supermarket and walked round there for half hour. Contractions started at the park and built slowly. At home walked up and down the stairs about 8 times. Contractions got stronger straight away and then I had him about 2 hours later.

mickeysminnie · 01/02/2018 10:30

Go to bed and get some sleep! My waters broke at 9pm, went to sleep, woke at 2am with contractions. Try and relax, stressing out will not help!

Bigfatchips · 01/02/2018 10:33

Don't try and delay the induction. Infection is a massive risk - the hospital knows what they are doing. I am speaking from bitter experience where I was left for too long after leaking waters. My hopsital changed their policy on this between the birth of my first child and my second child 2.5 years later.

Spacesuitmakeover · 01/02/2018 10:50

Walking and dancing, a bit of hip gyration may help, I laboured to 9cm pacing in the waiting room.

Blackteadrinker77 · 01/02/2018 10:51

Nipple stimulation is one of the best ways but really it is just down to nature deciding.

I hope you have a smooth birth and a happy healthy baby x

ineedwine99 · 01/02/2018 10:55

Hi OP, my waters went at 8am, went to be checked and told to call back later to be booked for induction, by 1pm contractions started, mild, went on a couple of walks, they got worse by about 4pm, called triage who said as they were progressing to leave induction and see how it goes and to call back if things stopped.
They carried on all night, getting worse by morning so went in at 7:30am and was kept in, had her that evening. I was told as waters had been gone over 24 hours i couldn't use the pool :-(

Blondephantom · 01/02/2018 10:58

Walking up and down hills. Squats to help the baby’s head push down. Get some rest first and try to relax. Make sure you eat too - it’s easy to forget in the excitement and they won’t let you eat once the drip starts. Try to include some slow release energy foods. Make sure everything is as ready as can be so you feel ready. Good luck x

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 10:58

Getting squeezing sensations below my belly button now perhaps every 10-15mins or so. Is that him moving or a contraction?

OP posts:
JuliannaBixby · 01/02/2018 11:01

I'd guess if it feels different to every other time you've felt him move, it's contractions beginning.

FWIW, my first feelings were pains right at the top of my legs; it's not always what you expect it to be.
