Waters just broken, help!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 09:13

Waters broke at 5am this morning. rushed to the hospital who confirmed (no shit Sherlock it was like Niagra!!) but sent me home as no contractions. They have booked an induction for tomorrow morning.

Thing is i am 36+6 so they may not let me give birth in the birthing suite (only from 37 weeks) which is what i wanted. Ideally i need to start having contractions asap so i can avoid having the induction but go in late enough so that the doctors say yes to us going to the birthing suite.

Any advice to get contractions going much appreciated!!! currently sitting on a birthing ball to stay active, going to my happy place for oxytosin etc.

That does sound like early labour. It can stop and start. Keep moving but also rest regularly and EAT. You will be having a baby soon Flowers

NewYearNiki · 01/02/2018 13:24

So exciting op.

Hope youre ok and good luck Flowers

EdmundCleverClogs · 01/02/2018 13:35

Esspee it should be fine to have a bath as long as no products are used, just water. I had one to try and get things moving, and had one at the hospital when I was in labour (though had to come out when baby ‘turned’ for the final stage).

EverythingIsAwwwwsome · 01/02/2018 13:43

Sorry if TMI but an orgasum kick started contractions for me op & was awkwardly advised by my rather old fashioned midwife! (don't have sex if waters have gone tho). This is all very exciting! My contractions felt like period pain that would stop completely and then start again after a few minutes. Good luck!

maddening · 01/02/2018 13:46

Get walking and if you have an exercise ball bounce on it

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 15:07

getting pretty intense now, had about 6 strong contractions in the last hour. Feeling like mild cramping in my pelvis then gets stronger and then slowly spreads upwards to the top of my bump. It then stays there for 10-20seconds before fading away. Each one has been stronger then the last and probably last 30-40 seconds each.

I hesitate to use the P word 'pain' but i could describe them as painful, like overextending a muscle or a hard clenched fist. Im trying to hypnobirth (although i didn't get to finish the book in time) so trying to just visualise the sensations as something other then pain and stay relaxed.

Do you have a breast pump OP?

OMGWTFLMFAO · 01/02/2018 15:46

Oooooh god luck OP! You've started naturally I'd say! Reckon you'll have a baby by morning! Smile

RockinRobinTweets · 01/02/2018 15:49

Ooh, baby time!

JustVent · 01/02/2018 15:49

Ah it’s your first baby!

How exciting!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 16:39

Yes first baby otherwise i wouldn't have to get advice from you lovely ladies! :)

So just called the hospital, while the delivery unit is happy for me to go to the birthing suite because i am low risk, the birthing suit is not willing to take me until after midnight so need to hang out at home until then.

i need a big countdown clock only 7 hours and 20 minutes to go, fingers and legs crossed!!

Good luck op, hope everything goes smoothly. You might not make it to midnight 🙈

So exciting 🙂

Sssh don't tell anyone but even by the time I got to DC5 I wasn't sure if I was in labour till I was really in labour Grin

Good luck!

diddl · 01/02/2018 17:27

With my first my pains were all round my bum & I thought that I needed the loo & couldn't go & was constipatedBlushGrin

The midnight thing is because you'll be 37wks?? I suppose they need rules, but it does seem a bit rigid that they are enforcing it to the hour!

Don't let not going there put you off going in if you feel the need though.

Hope all goes well, Op.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 18:10

Diddl, yes because of the 37week thing. the doctors were fine with it but the birth suite weren't like you say they have to draw the line somewhere.I suspect if i was there at 10 minutes to they maybe ok with it. otherwise i will just have to sit in the lobby Grin

Does anyone know how far gone i would have to be to avoid induction? now about 6-8 contractions per hour. Would that be enough for them to let me continue as i am? Anyone experience this?

Mrs DV did you find all yours were completely different? I will try not to be smug about my limited knowledge then. i'm the first in my family to get preggers for years. So does that mean i can't be a know it all to my sister.?!?

Imbluedabadee · 01/02/2018 18:27

Good luck! It's not up to them to let you continue as you are, it's your choice whether you're induced or not - it doesn't sound like you will need to be anyway but if they say you need it you can say no Thanks

JustVent · 01/02/2018 18:48

Mine were identical, but it’s still common to
think ‘is this it?’ For days.

I was in ‘slow labour’ for three weeks with my youngest. It did mean that when my contractions finally arrived and didn’t stop (they arrived every night, they stopped every night) they ramped up quickly and labour was very quick. They were every 30 seconds by the time I got to Hospital and I’d only been i labour for an hour by then.

Why does my stupid phone always capitalise Hospital?

Amanduh · 01/02/2018 19:06

I was having 10 contractions PH morning of my induction and they still induced me. Good luck with it all Flowers

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/02/2018 19:09

I think its more the fact you forget about labour until you start doing it again Iamnot
I remember getting a feeling of panic with DC2 'OMG what have I done!!!' when I realised I was in labour. I don't know what I thought was going to happen after about 9 mths of pregnancy Grin

This is so exciting. You are going to meet your baby!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 01/02/2018 19:11

How exciting! Well done you for staying at home so far, i laboured without pain relief for 12 hours albeit in different circumstances (I was on a ward and overdue but was denied admittance to the labour ward until my contractions were unbearable) and found lots of bouncing, pacing and singing helped me get through!

Good luck, looking forward to hearing an update Flowers

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/02/2018 19:25

Birthing ball was amazing. It was a gym ball from Sainburys. I didnt discover them until DC5. Being able to sit down during a contraction was wonderful.
I hate to say it but I thinking waiting as long as you can for pain relief can help. Because I had home births for the last two it took a while before I could get the G&A. It seemed to work better when I waited a bit longer.
I am not a drug free birth advocate or anything. Do what you need to do. Just passing on experience. I certainly don't mean 'be brave' or go so long you are distressed.

minipie · 01/02/2018 19:39

Don't leave it too long OP. My waters went at 36+6, mild contractions very quickly became strong contractions, DD nearly born in triage room as nurse didn't believe me. It never really got above "very uncomfortable" in pain terms. So don't wait for "oh my god I'm dying" pain as it may never come and you don't want DH delivering this baby! Good luck!

summerdreamz · 01/02/2018 20:04

Good luck OP!
How exciting for you 💐

WallaceSimpson · 01/02/2018 20:07

Good luck op Smile
