Waters just broken, help!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 09:13

Waters broke at 5am this morning. rushed to the hospital who confirmed (no shit Sherlock it was like Niagra!!) but sent me home as no contractions. They have booked an induction for tomorrow morning.

Thing is i am 36+6 so they may not let me give birth in the birthing suite (only from 37 weeks) which is what i wanted. Ideally i need to start having contractions asap so i can avoid having the induction but go in late enough so that the doctors say yes to us going to the birthing suite.

Any advice to get contractions going much appreciated!!! currently sitting on a birthing ball to stay active, going to my happy place for oxytosin etc.

Well that is another question. i intended to hand express in the two weeks or so before birth so i would be all prepared. obviously he is early so wont have a chance to do this. How have people found with BFing early babies. i'm hoping the hormones will simply kick in and away we go!

Good luck, you’ll be cuddling your baby very soon FlowersFlowers

chewiecat · 02/02/2018 03:36

Good luck op! My waters broke early too and we were given 24 hours by the birth centre for me to go into labour, if not I would have to be induced. It was quite stressful having that timer/countdown on, so I know your pain!

In the end, I called the birth centre at 23 hours after and pretended I was a bit further along. But they insisted that I had to get induced so I should go to the induction ward.

Somehow on the car journey there I went into full blown labour. The midwife In the induction ward took one look at me and said 'you don't need an Induction today!' Grin

I had DS 4 hours in the lovely birth centre after I arrived at hospital

It’s bedtime here so just marking my place to see your baby in the morning OP Smile

dippyeggandsoldiers · 02/02/2018 03:51

Aaah good luck!! 😁

Most important thing with breast feeding early babies is if he won’t latch. Protect your supply. Express. A little bit of hand expressing is great for first few days every 2-3 hours (make sure you have a good technique.). Try to get started within the first few hours if he doesn’t latch. Little and often doesn’t have to be a long drawn out process. Lots of skin to skin. If he’s having any sort of top ups make sure you’re expressing as well.

StarWarsFanatic · 02/02/2018 04:04

My sister's have all been before 36 weeks and she has breastfed so I wouldn't worry too much.

ohfourfoxache · 02/02/2018 04:07

Aw, good luck! Enjoy snuggling your beautiful bundle

WanderlustHenpeck · 02/02/2018 04:16

My 37 weeker breastfeed brilliantly from day 1. Fingers crossed for you too! Good luck

NeverTell9871 · 02/02/2018 04:47

Oh good luck OP!! So exciting Grin I'm currently up with my 4week old who thinks it's play time!

maybaby17 · 02/02/2018 04:56

Breastfeeding has me up at this time, just as well for MN to keep me awake!

I was so eager to get in the water that I didn't notice the short break from the tens. Hubby ripped it off the second before I got in the water. Midwife had to scold him lol

I started pumping on day 3 of his life (not usually reconvened) for various reasons and hand expressed the colostrum into syringes before that. LO never took to the breast until he was 11 days old and now he loves it, takes a dummy and a bottle and I have never been bothered by mastitis or any other issue. Never had sore nipples and have several tubes of lanolin lying around wasted. It just clicked and he's still getting fed 8 months later

maybaby17 · 02/02/2018 04:58

Recommended, not reconvened!!

LO was born after 37 weeks but I'm sure he will latch on just great and if he doesn't the nurses will help you to hand express and might encourage you to pump too. It's done me and LO no harm in our experience

Supermagicsmile · 02/02/2018 05:00

Any update op?

Doctordid · 02/02/2018 05:15

No advice sorry but mine fed fine at 37 weeks. Pump if you need to.

Good luck!

Thanks for posting this OP, my sleep pattern is dreadful these days and I’ve enjoyed thinking back through my pregnancies and my children’s births. They are all in their twenties now but those special times stay with you.
I was recently reminiscing with a woman in her 80s about pregnancy. Despite having dementia she could remember quite clearly some bits of that stage in her life.
Hope all is well, you will soon have your baby in your arms.

ethelfleda · 02/02/2018 05:55

DS did have a few latch issues in the first week or so - he was 6lb and quite small so I think his mouth was too little! Once my milk came in, my breasts were too full for him to latch so expressing a little by hand before a feed solved that and he has been fine ever since. Just take whatever supporr/advice is offered to you if you have any issues but you may not!
I'm eagerly awaiting your updates now OP!

Reallycantbebothered · 02/02/2018 05:59

Good luck OP, I have 3 dcs,2dd who were emcs and 1 Ds who should have been an elective cs but decided to appear 5 weeks early after a trial of labour and so I had a vbac! ....he was 7lb even though he was early and I was lucky I had no problems bf all 3of them for many many months!
TENS machine was brilliant for me, then I also had entonox kept laughing between contractions

hodgeheg92 · 02/02/2018 06:07

This is so exciting!

As a first time mum to my gorgeous 3 week old little girl, I can tell you that your comment of catching up on sleep when your lo arrives made me smile. Giving birth was the easy bit for me - sleep deprivation is slow torture.

I did pretty much get to follow my birth plan to the letter though so it is possible! Good luck!

hotcrossbuns765 · 02/02/2018 06:30

Good luck OP! How exciting! I am currently BF my 15 month old now - thankfully he took to it really well.

taekwondo · 02/02/2018 06:58

Good luck! I'm hoping the silence means you're having your sweet one!

trevthecat · 02/02/2018 07:04

So excited for You!! Guessing you have gone quiet because you are either very close to meeting your baby or he is already here!! Good luck

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 07:18

NO still here. good news though. we have called the delivery unit and as we are having contractions they have said that we don't need to come in for the induction. Apparently they are really busy and this is common after a supermoon as it makes people's water break?!?

So they are busy and so i have said as we are in labour that we would like to stay at home then some into the birthing centre later once we are ready. So primary goal achieved!!

I have been awake most of the night. got maybe an hour of dozing between contractions which were coming thick and fast and painful when i was trying to sleep but now im awake they have gone ffs!!! oh wait there's one...sigh

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 07:22

I don't see how the moon being fully visible would make any difference though. The whole thing is still there, you just can't see it all??

Callamia · 02/02/2018 07:26

This is what happened to me! I ended up avoiding induction, but my contractions took ages to really get going. I walked miles and miles, but in the end found walking up and down stairs to really help.

Good luck!

purplelass · 02/02/2018 07:29

Super moon is when it's extra close to the Earth so I guess the magnetic pull is stronger?
Good luck today, hope all goes perfectly! Flowers
