Waters just broken, help!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 09:13

Waters broke at 5am this morning. rushed to the hospital who confirmed (no shit Sherlock it was like Niagra!!) but sent me home as no contractions. They have booked an induction for tomorrow morning.

Thing is i am 36+6 so they may not let me give birth in the birthing suite (only from 37 weeks) which is what i wanted. Ideally i need to start having contractions asap so i can avoid having the induction but go in late enough so that the doctors say yes to us going to the birthing suite.

Any advice to get contractions going much appreciated!!! currently sitting on a birthing ball to stay active, going to my happy place for oxytosin etc.

In the same situation my DW was told to get some oil and firmly massage the bump in a clockwise direction. Contractions started instantly and became regular within a few hours.

LastOneDancing · 01/02/2018 11:02

My first contractions were just like mild period pains. Then my waters went & it was unmistakable!!

Good luck OP! You're going to meet your baby soon!

justilou1 · 01/02/2018 11:03

Sounds like contractions to me! Good luck, OP! Congratulations in advance!

KendalMintCakey · 01/02/2018 11:06

36 weeks is fine. You are nearly 37. If it was me I'd push for today. Call and say you have not felt any movement x All the best x

KendalMintCakey · 01/02/2018 11:06

Are you having pains?

Haudyerwheesht · 01/02/2018 11:09

My contractions were mostly in my lower back and pubic area.

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/02/2018 11:09

Contractions are painful rather than just 'tightening'
They usually start with crampy period like pains
Even the milder ones tend to stop you in your tracks.
You may get pressure round your bum.

Good luck.

JuliannaBixby · 01/02/2018 11:13

Are you saying the OP should phone the hospital and lie KendalMintCakey? Or have I missed something?

MrsDilber · 01/02/2018 11:17

Sounds like the beginnings of contractions to me. Good luck! Very exciting, you'll meet your baby boy real soon. I'm off to sainsburys, you're going to have a day you won't forget, exciting!

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 01/02/2018 11:19

A bath with lavender oil worked wonders for me both times but you will smell like a little old lady.

Hope you have a safe straightforward birth Smile

TheHolidayArmadillo · 01/02/2018 11:21

Wtf sort of advice is that KendalMintCakey??

It sounds like you're having early contractions OP. Keep moving, and time them. With both of my labours they started like period pain that came and went. They can be different for different women, so go by how you feel and trust your instincts. Some women are in excruciating pain from the get-go, others aren't effected the same way.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 01/02/2018 11:23

Sounds like contractions. Please dint wait until you can't talk/walk through them though as this isn't necessarily true for everyone. I walked into the delivery room with dc2 and delivered him 5 minutes later, all the while talking to the midwives!

tillytrotter1 · 01/02/2018 11:24

My waters broke and the Navy clinic told me to get up to the Hospital, they kept me in but nothing was happening and I slept very badly. The following day still nothing and they decided to induce the following day, 3 days after the flood. During visiting I had a bit of a twinge, at lights out the Sister gave me a sleeping tablet, I asked when they'd start the induction next morning. 'Oh, you're well on the way, you'll have had it by then.' 'But you've just given me a sleeping tablet!' 'Oh shit!'
It was an interesting night!

DrWhy · 01/02/2018 11:25

I started with period pain at 8am had Baby by 9pm. Contractions didn’t get to the point where I couldn’t speak through them until a couple of hours before he was born so I wouldn’t dismiss pains as being contractions before that point!

EdmundCleverClogs · 01/02/2018 11:26

Good luck! Exactly the same thing happened to me a month ago, tried everything to get it started. Had mild contractions to start with but unfortunately they stopped eventually. I needed the induction, I really wanted another water birth so was a bit upset. However, the health and safety of the baby (and yourself) is paramount - hope everything goes well!

Burstingwithlife · 01/02/2018 11:33

It could be things warming up but only time will tell. Really the only way you’ll know is when you actually know. There is no mistaking labour pains once they get going. What you can be sure of is that because your waters have broken your baby will be here very soon. I know that doesn’t help. I’ve had tightening before which have then stopped! It can be really frustrating. Just try and keep active but rest in between. Wishing you the best. Keep us posted. I feel excited for you. I’m 33 weeks pregnant with my 5th xx

Northernmum12 · 01/02/2018 11:33

My waters went at 5.30 am I called the hospital and they advised me to take my time coming in as I had no contractions. Got to hospital at 8.30 and was 3cm dilated so they advised me to stay and go for a walk and gave me a sweep. Did they check you were dilated or give you a sweep or anything? By the time I had taken the lift up to the top floor to go for breakfast I had to turn around and come back because I could barely walk with the pain.

Northernmum12 · 01/02/2018 11:34

Oh and good luck and congratulations!

gillybeanz · 01/02/2018 11:39

When my waters broke with ds1, he was born 2 hours later.
With ds2 90 mins after waters broke, and with dd 30 mins after water broke.
Glad we only had three dc. Grin
keep active OP, and all the best Thanks

Someoneasdumbasthis · 01/02/2018 11:51

nipple stimulation worked for me! Good luck OP!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 11:52

Yes exactly like mild period pain for a few minutes now nothing.

OP posts:
diddl · 01/02/2018 11:56

I thought that they wanted you in when waters have gone?

Did they monitor you for contractions?

My waters went & I went into & stayed in hospital-6hrs later I lost the mucous plug, had my first pain & was 8cms!

I was taken to a delivery room & it was fine.

Gave birth on the floor leaning on a birthing ball-was 36wks.

Hope that it starts soon for you.

Browntile · 01/02/2018 11:56

I think that sounds like v early labour. On my experience I'd expect your baby to be here tomorrow. Good luck!

Browntile · 01/02/2018 11:57

Oh and go and have a nice long walk in the fresh air. Get him/her heading in the right Direction and in a good position.

Esspee · 01/02/2018 12:17

Someone earlier mentioned a warm bath. I thought once the waters had broken a bath was a no no because of the risk of infection. May be wrong but I'd stick to a shower.
Just think, very soon you'll be holding your beautiful baby. Very best wishes OP. Flowers
