Waters just broken, help!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 01/02/2018 09:13

Waters broke at 5am this morning. rushed to the hospital who confirmed (no shit Sherlock it was like Niagra!!) but sent me home as no contractions. They have booked an induction for tomorrow morning.

Thing is i am 36+6 so they may not let me give birth in the birthing suite (only from 37 weeks) which is what i wanted. Ideally i need to start having contractions asap so i can avoid having the induction but go in late enough so that the doctors say yes to us going to the birthing suite.

Any advice to get contractions going much appreciated!!! currently sitting on a birthing ball to stay active, going to my happy place for oxytosin etc.

Another one saying don't leave it too long! When my waters went with DD at 35 weeks I had no contractions at all for 24 hours - then about 10 contractions in 50 minutes and bam, baby out. Luckily I was on antenatal ward all this time as waters went at 35 weeks, but at the point I felt enough to think I was in early labour it was actually transition...

Adding to the chorus "Don't leave it too long"
How far are you from the hospital?

blueskyinmarch · 01/02/2018 21:48

Good luck OP. I am willing to bet you will have had your baby by the morning!

Pastaagain78 · 01/02/2018 21:53

Another one saying don’t leave it too long.....good luck!

bumbleymummy · 01/02/2018 21:58

Ooh how exciting!

It may sound ridiculous and impossible but do try to rest and sleep a bit if you can. My labours all went overnight and I had very little sleep. By the time I got to the pushing stage in the morning I was really tired. Maybe put on a silly dvd and try to doze a bit? Friends on Netflix? 😊

mumpoints · 01/02/2018 22:03

Hmmmm been a long time since the OP has posted. Wonder if she coudn't hold on...

GOOD LUCK OP!

Still here. contractions getting closer together, now about 6 mins apart.

We are only 10min away from the hospital. i'm just glad that we have got to midnight so we can go to the birth suite once things speed up more. We are planning to ring the delivery clinic at 6am to tell them that we intend to stay at home until we are ready to come in and hopefully they will agree that induction is not needed now and we can go straight to the birth centre and this little episode will just be a blip on our otherwise perfect birth plan!

I have managed to have a couple of catnaps but for some reason my contractions when lying down are rather intense. Have left hubby in bed, at least he can get some sleep and then i can catch up later when our little boy is here (oh that's exciting!!)

If we carry on with the contractions at current rate i hope we should be able to go in mid morning or so when they have sped up a bit. i feel OK. im am sooo glad we bought a tense machine, i think i would be a wreck by now without it, just tried a contraction without it and OMG!!. i'm only a bit tired now and pretty relaxed about the whole thing and it has a lot to do with this little gadget.

maybaby17 · 02/02/2018 02:08

I found the tens machine really good too then went in to the water just before the birth. Best of luck to you. You sound like you're doing a brilliant job so far. Keep bouncing on that ball to get dilated.

My waters went first too and I found I took a long time to dilate, 27 hours from waters breaking I gave birth. I had regular contractions and pains for a long time but couldn't get comfy to sleep.

justanotherday4 · 02/02/2018 02:13

How exciting op! All the very best! Please don’t be too heart set on your birth plan, I was a bit and I ended up with an induction so it wasn’t what I’d planned at all, your little one will make their appearance very soon by some means and at that stage all you’ll care about is that they’re here! Do keep us informed Flowers

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:21

Good grief! i know why im up, why are you two up? different time zone or babies?!

kissmewherethesundontshine · 02/02/2018 02:24

Def don't leave it too long OP, I did hypo birthing (just from YouTube videos!) and used a tens machine with DC1, I too expected to get stronger contractions but luckily my neighbour convinced us to go to the hospital just to get checked. We arrived and I was pushing 15 mins later! Good luck I'm sure you will be meeting him soon Smile

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:25

Maybaby. that is my intention too. how did you find the transition from tense to water. i'm a bit afraid i wont be able to cope without my little friend now?!

Justanother. i'm aware that confidence is a good way of mitigating the potential fear of childbirth and reduce tension so while i am confident in our birth plan i am well aware it could (literally) go tits up.

We have a plan B and C. don't know how but we hadn't even considered induction until now, i think because we expected that to be weeks away if he was getting overdue so still had time to research and adjust our plan.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:28

Thanks Kissme. we have been told not to come in until contractions are 3 every 10 minutes so not much i can do but wait.

i have heard plenty of stories about women giving birth when not fully dialated, and with infrequent contractions etc etc so who knows. it wouldn't be a disaster if he was born at home.

hungryhippo90 · 02/02/2018 02:35

Well done OP, hope you’re still doing ok. I have to say, you read cool as a cucumber!! You’ve so got this! Hope your precious boy is here soon!!!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:50

I hope so hippo. i certainly wasn't calm when i invoked a deity at 5am yesterday when i realized i had caused a minor flood.

Hubby and i are 'planners' we made sure to finish the renovation, check our various family diseases, i had been on months of folic acid etc etc. we did loads of research, classes spoke to everyone we knew who hadhad a baby for their experience. As a result this all feels like a culmination of a lot of work.

We have also been very lucky, no fertility issues and the most routine pregnancy i have ever heard of so we were both a bit Hmm when he decided to turn up early. Like i said above, we have done all the prep so i feel (perhaps stupidly) confident about the whole thing which at least has kept me calm.

I do also have to set a good president. my sister got unexpectedly pregnant 3 months ago. she was never interested in children partially i think because she hated and feared the idea of birth. i hope that i can help her by showing it is possible to have a lovely birth. (of course i also hope for a positive experience myself#)

this little episode will just be a blip on our otherwise perfect birth plan!

Just a word to the wise, the only person who doesnt know about your birth plan is your baby! He will come when and how he is ready so dont be too married to The Plan!

Good luck :)

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:51

(Turns on boost function on tense) Ahhhhhhh

stolemyusername · 02/02/2018 02:52

Yeah op, you're in labour for sure so no induction tomorrow.

Your son is obviously not in with your planning and is setting his own time lines - be prepared for a lot of this!

Onlymeeeeee · 02/02/2018 02:55

Not sure you're going to make it to 6am!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:55

Hi Pyongyang. yes that was slightly tongue in cheek, generally we are of the attitude of 'he has to get out somehow'. our birth centre has a really good record of keeping people in rather then escalating. they don't do epidurals so frankly i would be ecstatic if all i managed to achieve was to stay there for the whole birth.

As long as he and I are both OK that's the main thing

Iamnotacerealkiller · 02/02/2018 02:57

Onlyme, who knows! this thread has been great. i keep being distracted from my contractions!!

OP posts:
kissmewherethesundontshine · 02/02/2018 03:04

Ahh I remember the boost function Grin just a word of warning, have DH ready to unplug immediately after birth, I nearly went through the ceiling once my son arrived as I'd got it on max Grin

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/02/2018 03:05

The reason I mentioned plans was that my youngest (of 6!) was supposed to just pop out after half an hour. Her next oldest sibling was 3 hours after induction so of course she would be quick right? Wong! Little sod took 14 bloody hours! Had her at home with no pain relief though so it can be done and you sound like you are coping magnificently!

ethelfleda · 02/02/2018 03:15

Congrats OP! I'm currently up bf'ing my 3 month old and this thread is bringing back wonderful memories of his birth back in October. I too had the most routine pregnancy and then my waters went at bang on 38 weeks (literally midnight!)
My contractions started but not properly like yours so I was induced.
Good luck and hope you have the birth you want Flowers

StarWarsFanatic · 02/02/2018 03:28

Didn't want to read and run. You sound like you are doing amazingly well. Good luck OP, hope all goes to plan.
