Have been seeing posts like this being thrown round on social media the past couple of days....am I the only one who thinks the whole world has gone bananas and we are now taking a huge step backwards???

To be furious?! Women's march?
OP posts:

Fortunately she's getting her naive (but at least young and pert - yay!) arse handed to her on a plate.

If we older feminists stepped aside, people like her would undo everything that has been achieved over many years within a matter of weeks. She even uses the phrase terf in one of her replies.

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 01:04

@Idontdowindows

There will be nowhere women can go (including this place) that is not infested by men.

Infested by men?

Gosh, that totally passed me by. Was that all you noticed?

bluescreen · 23/01/2018 01:16

Infested by men?FFS. I've just been back through the thread and can't find this alleged quote at all. Are you just bringing up old beef, @theForeigner ?

PositivelyPERF · 23/01/2018 01:22

tF When these men are bullying their way into female spaces, when men are manipulating their way into roles created for women, when they are physically and verbally assaulting women for not agreeing that TIMs are women, then too fucking right they are 'infesting' women's spaces.

Gingernaut · 23/01/2018 01:22

This from Feminist Current.

www.feministcurrent.com/2018/01/22/vancouver-womens-march-becomes-opportunity-misogynist-threats-women/

Apologies if someone has already posted this.

AdultHumanFemale · 23/01/2018 01:31

Urgh. An intersectional feminist FB group I lurk on is full of this stuff, with a comment like "I couldn't have put it better myself!" and followed by lots of likes from straight, white women, falling over themselves to bemoan the fact that white cis women won't just 'sit down'. An 'I bathe in white / cis feminist tears' meme or two completes the picture. If anyone queries it, sharp retorts along the lines of 'Go educate yourself!' or 'Tut, really insensitive to come on here and demand more emotional labour from your oppressed sisters... Check your privilege.' I have so much time for feminist analysis and activism, but this feels so divisive and stifling. I love the MN feminist board because of its openness, and I can't imagine anyone ever being shamed for initial ignorance. To paraphrase Datun , it gives everyone an opportunity to go back to basics.

ShoesHaveSouls · 23/01/2018 01:32

Men are already assaulting women, harassing them, and getting them actually sacked and expelled from political parties for not agreeing with the mantra "transwomen are women" - we should be very very worried.

If self-ID is made law as part of the GRA - there will nothing you can do to stop any man identifying as a woman and taking up a woman's role. Say - intimate medical care for you're daughter or mother, your daughter's place on a women's sport's team, joining you in the toilets or changing rooms etc etc etc.

We should be very, very worried. Because this is actually happening now - in the NHS, in prisons, in shops, in schools. Right now. And it's not even the law yet.

bluescreen · 23/01/2018 01:37

@Gingernaut
No, not seen that before. Canada always seemed such a nice, liberal place.

pallisers · 23/01/2018 01:39

whenever white women are told to check their privilege (and I check mine every day) I also remember that in the US african-american men - recently emancipated from slavery - regarded as sub-human by many many of the legislators, voters and people in power (all men) were given the vote in 1870 when white women - the people those in power ate with, slept with and propagated with were refused it for another 50 years.

White- and Black - women were given the vote 50 years later in 1920. We were given it together because for the patriarchy our womanhood will always be more relevant that our race or our ethnicity or our sexual preferences.

AdultHumanFemale · 23/01/2018 01:42

Claps enthusiastically at Pallisers .

ShoesHaveSouls · 23/01/2018 01:42

Canada is a nice, liberal place.

The TRAs have taken advantage of that to encroach on women's spaces with inclusive mantras like transwomen are women.

Sorry to say, it's happening here too. Slowly - but the GRA is about to become law. We really do owe it to our daughters to ensure they have as many rights growing up as we did. Shockingly, we're sleepwalking into a situation where they won't.

ShoesHaveSouls · 23/01/2018 01:44

Amazing (shocking!) fact, pallisers. I'm committing that one to memory.

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 01:47

@bluescreen

The "alleged quote" was the 11th post.

I noticed the regular anti-male, anti-trans pile on. I looked at the screenshot from the OP and assumed it was hyperbolic role play but some marching woman. None of it really made much sense and nor do the replies but I thought that @Idontdowindows did at least sum up the attitude of many on the thread.

That and the "no country for white men" placard.

Honestly, it makes me embarrassed to be associated with ideas like this.

TooManyPaws · 23/01/2018 01:50

I wish we had a 'like' button on here

Also a 'funny' one.

ShoesHaveSouls · 23/01/2018 01:52

Well don't march, then Foreigner.

If you're happy to women's rights eroded, to see the very word "woman" become meaningless - to see the country majorly run by old, white men - who are happy to delete women's reproductive rights, and excuse and belittle (even commit) sexual assault - then you're just fine aren't you? That's what's happening right now.

Snowdrop18 · 23/01/2018 01:59

Apologies if it's been said but I thought Laura Hudson was around 40?

I noticed anther poster up thread talking about early 20s women but I have two friends in particular who have no idea why I not accept trans women as women and they are 40s and 50s.

I have no idea why Hudson decided to spout this rubbish about older women but equally important to realise that younger women can't be lumped into a group either.

leave Mumsnet this way >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
No, sorry, that's the cheap way out. First of all, you need to think about what you are getting out of Mumsnet. What is it doing for you, or would you be better off leaving? What about your children? Will they suffer if you leave Mumsnet? Are you able to fend for yourself
independently of Mumsnet?

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 02:06

@ShoesHaveSouls

Well don't march, then Foreigner.

Thanks, I won't. As I said, it's been hijacked (by women) and if I did attend I'd be worried that people think I agree with the radicals.

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 02:07

@bluescreen

????????

misssmilla1 · 23/01/2018 02:09

adult you need to add in "we're not doing the emotional labour for you" and you've got peak new wave feminist bs Wink

ShoesHaveSouls · 23/01/2018 02:10

A women's march hijacked by women you say?

Bloody hell - who'd have thought it?

I'd be more inclined to say it was hijacked by men.

thebewilderness · 23/01/2018 02:12

Divide and conquer is part and parcel of the war on women. One of the organizers of the silly cat hat symbol of solidarity with women is a WOC so for most people these accusations of 'white feminism" are not effective. Still, when blaming women for what men do is all you have then that is what you go with.

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 02:13

I said "women" as some are saying it's been hijacked by the patriarchy / men. Perhaps I should have said divisive and radical women. The type who see men as an infestation.
