To be furious?! Women's march?

Have been seeing posts like this being thrown round on social media the past couple of days....am I the only one who thinks the whole world has gone bananas and we are now taking a huge step backwards???

To be furious?! Women's march?
OP posts:
Gingernaut · 23/01/2018 14:35

With regards to redsatinheets quoted statement.

It uses lazy, racist stereotypes to divide women into racial categories.

Black, white and asian women have worries about violence and police brutality. Perhaps not to the same extent, but there are asian, latin and white people living in poor areas and wary of authority.

Only Latin women have immigration issues? There are black, asian and white illegal immigrants and those who depend on revocable permits.

Only Native Americans are worried about environmental issues? Really?

Trans women worried about cuts to Planned Parenthood? Seriously?

All women are worried about healthcare, for themselves and their families.

That white women paragraph made absolutely no sense.

Most women are worried about sexual harrassment. Watching out for men and what they might do.

To be furious?! Women's march?
bengalcat · 23/01/2018 14:36

Weirdos what's with all the PUSSY stuff ?

Gingernaut · 23/01/2018 14:41

It refers to a remark made by Donald Trump.

He was recorded as saying something about when you're rich and famous you can do what you want. You want a fine looking woman? Just grab them by the pussy. No one's going to stop you.

HairyBallTheorem · 23/01/2018 15:30

"Have a lie down, dear". They can't resist being patronising, can they? It's so funny. As if they can't keep up the pretence for long.

Of course Bergdorf is the point of this thread - transwoman says women's reproductive biology doesn't matter for a march discussing women's rights.

If you're ignoring that point because you're ill informed and, frankly, coming across as wilfully stupid (not actually stupid - I suspect you're probably quite bright - but you are deliberately sticking your fingers in your ears and going "la la la, can't hear you" when anyone tries to explain the issue to you), well then I can't help you.

theForeigner · 23/01/2018 15:48

@HairyBallTheorem

I'm intrigued by your change from third to first person. Playing the audience or just an unusual stylistic choice.

What pretence and who are "they"?

I thought the point of the thread was the OP's screenshot of a woman's comment about levels of oppression and feminism with race being the main influence.

How was this moved into trans debating and what does Bergdorf (who I've now googled thanks to @Mummy's pointer) have to do with anything.

I stay off trans threads on MN as they're tired and repetitive. I have nothing to offer or gain. I'm bemused as to how you think this is about trans issues or how trans issues feature at all.

"probably quite bright"

Have you been talking to my House Mistress? I think that's the exact wording of my university recommendation.

taratill · 23/01/2018 16:01

God this thread has given me a headache.

I've been replying to tweets a bit and no one (TAs) can tell me why:

a) they are ignoring biology and claiming to BE biological women rather than transwomen
b) this is relevant on any level so long as trans women are afforded human rights and free from oppression/ bigotry

I will happily march with transpeople to promote their rights so long as they will march with me to promote my rights as a biological woman. The fact they will not recognise my rights as a biological woman offends me.

This is what I am trying to understand on a personal level.

I know this is a bit OT but anyway I think it is the core of the issue (for me at least) .

OP YANBU to be furious. I am too.

Ereshkigal · 23/01/2018 19:11

Did you not read the part of the OP comment which is clearly about trans, Foreigner? I think you did. Disingenuous. Even if that wasn't part of why this thread was posted, which it clearly was, it would still be a thousand times more relevant to mention Bergdorf in the context of "cis" white women being told what they can and can't do on the women's march, than your laughable evo psych nonsense. So you can drop the hypocrisy too.

thebewilderness · 23/01/2018 22:59

Enormous Mendacious Disembodied Anus is sung to the tune of Kokomo.

thebewilderness · 23/01/2018 23:07

My question remains:
Can you mandate belief?
Can you codify into law the idea that some people can mind over matter themselves out of material reality and into the opposite sex and must be treated accordingly?
It is like transubstantiation. A belief that no one actually believes.
Will you allow people to drug and mutilate children based on this belief that no one believes?

Forkhandles22 · 23/01/2018 23:51

Yes. And just as a point, Dr Radfem has been expelled from the Labour Party over the weekend for posting a meme which said 'Transwomen are men'. Which is true.

She’s been expelled?! When Labour did absolutely nothing when Naz Shah retweeted the white rape victims of a Rotherham need to keep their mouths shut for the good of diversity.
Honestly surprised Jeremy Corbyn wasn’t the one tweeting that screenshot in the OP.

MistressDeeCee · 23/01/2018 23:56

It's about cis white women privilege and stuff they don't really have to fear because of that. So they can be as loud and proud as they like. I hate that stupid cis word and the post is worded very badly. But I "get" it in terms of the truth of that privilege. Just that it's put across in a nasty way as the writer patently doesn't like any woman, cis white non-white trans or not, and the fact that women are marching

FreddoLady · 24/01/2018 00:03

When are women all over going to wake the fuck up?

DreamyMcDreamy · 24/01/2018 01:06

Can't be arsed reading past several pages. Get to fk with all this "cis white woman" crap - I'm a woman, always have been, am not a cis, stop trying to re-label us all.
Stupid term - a woman is a woman. Tell a woman she's not actually a woman, she's a cis, that's pretty damn offensive actually. Evidently to some it doesn't matter if they're not recognised, give them a new name and say they're not what they always were.
F*ck right off with that.

DreamyMcDreamy · 24/01/2018 01:07

Didn't know I felt so strongly about being a woman until you try telling me I'm not, then it's ON!

thebewilderness · 24/01/2018 01:33

The activity as described in the OP is referred to as Oppression Olympics in Feminist circles, and it is indeed an effective divide and conquer tactic that men have used against us for many years.
One woman reported this morning that most of the hate comments she was getting over the women's march were from Russian IPs or 4chan commenters. Then I saw a bit from the NRA TV (National Rifle Association) raging over the women's march and I gotta tell you it was backlash deja vu all over again.

Helllllooooooo · 24/01/2018 01:42

Why can’t all women just be grateful that women from all backgrounds and cultures are coming together?!
It’s womens rights that they are marching for not specifically “black women”, “trans women”, “Latino women”.

Helllllooooooo · 24/01/2018 01:44

And using cis is so offensive. If the show was on the other foot shit would go DOWN

thebewilderness · 24/01/2018 02:03

Using cis is an indication that the screed was written by an MRA and not a woman at all.

GirlInterruptedOftenByKids · 24/01/2018 07:55

AdultHumanFemale

I think I know the Fbook group you mean and it's driving me mad too. Everyone there is so busy tying themselves into knots about intersectionality that they've forgotten the very simple original premise of the group - that all women are at risk under the Trump administration.

One woman posted a highly controversial article she'd written then went on to crow all over her personal Fbook page about how she loved white liberal tears. Is that intersectional? ? Or just being an arse?

(She also told women not to vote, which is about as dumbass as you can get)

FurCoatFurKnickers · 24/01/2018 07:56

I hate that stupid cis word

So why use it then? Confused

PositivelyPERF · 24/01/2018 08:42

It annoys the fuck out of me that women here are still using the word c** (I’m not even going to spell it), even if it’s being used ironically or sarcastically, as you’re giving it oxygen. The more a word is used, the more it becomes acceptable, so from now on I won’t even spell the word as I find it so offensive. You can call me a fucker, cunt, arsehole or any number of names, but any fucker that calls me that word can fuck right off! I’m a WOMAN! 😠😡🤬

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 24/01/2018 08:50

The author clearly finds women more acceptable when they are terrified into silence

MorrisZapp · 24/01/2018 08:56

I'm white and a feminist, anyone with a problem with my white feminism can either explain exactly what they want me to do (without using the words centering or amplify) or fuck off.

If what they want me to do actually comes down to thinking, appreciating, understanding or knowing then can they please demonstrate their evidence that I don't already do all those things.

misssmilla1 · 24/01/2018 17:48

Ah but morris then you'd be accused of making them do unpaid emotional labour by making them explain it to you!

I see that response a lot and the cynical part of me thinks its because they don't actually know or can't form a cohesive argument about it.

thebewilderness · 24/01/2018 17:58

Turns out the source for most of this trolling of the woman's march and c word ranting is 4chan.
