DD wanting to quit Guides.

When I've busted a gut volunteering as warranted leader for GirlGuiding the last 7 years, just so she could get into Rainbows then Brownies and now Guides?
Waiting lists for Rainbow were miles long in 2010 (still are) groups are still closing all over the place due to lack of volunteers. I agreed to volunteer as a leader then so she could jump the long queue.
Now she says it's boring. I want her to do it as I think it's good for her (she doesn't do dancing or sport or anything else, plus looks good on future job/uni applications)

I feel a bit hurt that she want to jack it in.
Maybe I should quit too.

Thoughts?

Even in terms of job applications, it isn't necessarily the right thing for this girl to stick at if she doesn't like it. Different jobs demand different types of people. Some kids who get to the point where they don't want to do any kind of organised activity because they get enough of being told what to do at school - these are the kids who will grow up and invent some world-changing device, or create wonderful art/music/literature because they like working stuff out for themselves. Having to fuck around baking cakes for charity or going camping when they dislike outdoor activities just makes them miserable.

And I stick to my point about employers who want a track record of 'volunteering' - unless the job is one that involves public service of some kind, it's likely to be a way of picking employees you can get more free overtime out of.

I'm in agreement with those suggesting a change from Guides to Scouts or Cadets.

I don't know if she's an only one like me, but a structured activity every week did me a lot of good socially - I'm still an introvert but I picked up a lot of skills through Brownies and Guides that still come in useful now. I left Guides at 13 because of a house move. Girls weren't allowed in Scouts then, but I really wanted to be a Scout Sad
