So I'm a member of several local groups - Because of where I live it's all villages and I'm part of each of their Facebook groups.

Tonight in one of them a post appears. Basically a young lad (about 20-23) had taken a picture of a girl he didn't know and the back of her in a shop. She was wearing an equestrian centre hoody. His caption to the post was "Feel sorry for the horse she rides" or something similar to that. The girl had seen the post and she had screenshot and posted to the local group saying how hurt she was.

I'm in two minds about it - I certainly think it's fat-shaming and not to be condoned at all. But people jumped on it saying they were going to tell his employers, and get him fired. He wasn't even a member of the group to go and apologise and instead had friends defending him the whole time. I'm sure he thought he was just being clever and doing it for likes and banter but he doesn't realise the impact he could've had on the girls life either.

Do you guys think everyone overreacted or he deserves whatever comes his way?

How do those of you who hope he loses his job think he should feed himself and his family and pay rent? Should he become dependent on the state?

That's his issue to deal with. When you consciously choose to behave in such a way, you put things like your family security at risk. You'd imagine a functional, intelligent adult would know that and choose not to take that risk. The fact that he did is his issue; he needs to learn from this, find a new employer and perhaps be less of an arsehole online from now on.

Johnnycomelately1 · 14/01/2018 12:13

They won't be able to sack him for it if he wasn't at work as far as I know

They can if there's a clause in his contract covering it and this is increasingly common. I work in financial services and I would 100% get fired if I did this and if I listed my employer on my FB page.

StealthPolarBear · 14/01/2018 12:15

Kenny I'd hope the child's mother works.
Dawn that's really shit. But I'm sure you know the saying, you can lose weight but they'll always have that personality problem

Sparklesocks · 14/01/2018 12:17

He’s learnt that acting like a tool has consequences, and now he’s feeling the effects of those consequences. He’s not a teenager or a kid, he should no better. If he doesn’t, he’ll learn now.

BashStreetKid · 14/01/2018 12:18

He should have thought about his fiancé before he posted, and she needs to think about whether she wants to be with a bully.

I'm from this area too, I think I'm more shocked how many of us from this particular page are on MN. It was totally uncalled for and disgusting

No sympathy at all for me either.

And actually the point is not that his profile should be private, the point is that he shouldn't have done it AT ALL!!

He should have apologised as pubblicly as he shamed.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/01/2018 12:32

Look up the definition of jokes.
Jokes are funny. In case you've not noticed neither this poor women or anyone else is laughing, Kenny.
Don't turn this into some else's fault.
The fault lies with him and him alone. People have been driven suicide over abuse on line.

Looneytune253 · 14/01/2018 12:33

Horrible lad. Yes I think he would deserve it if he got sacked (but doubtful). I hope everyone he knows gets to see what a horrible lad he is!

SavvyFishFinger · 14/01/2018 12:34

It is about time we all deal with this kind of shit. The awful places of this world are increasing in number and it should be zero tolerance. Doubt he will lose his job over it but hope he gets a hard time. Live by the sword and die by it.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 14/01/2018 12:35

No sympathy.

He thinks it’s fine to ‘call people out’ and publically shame them?

Why should people treat him with respect and decency? I hope he’s made to regret this. Might teach him and likeminded individuals a valuable lesson.

HuskyMcClusky · 14/01/2018 12:37

We're better, as a society, than to let a family starve for someone making a joke about a fat person.

Children in the UK don’t starve if their father loses his job. Don’t be silly.

IamLucyBarton · 14/01/2018 12:43

Kenny don't make it so dramatic

No, kenny, I was not being hyperbolic by referring to this (sexist, misogynistic, casual, not-even-think-twice) public humiliation of a woman as sickening.

HuskyMcClusky · 14/01/2018 12:46

Gosh, you’re very aggressive.

I quoted you directly; don’t blame me for your own hyperbole.

HuskyMcClusky · 14/01/2018 12:47

Oh, I see you’re actually a troll.

As you were.

BackBoiler · 14/01/2018 12:51

I thought 'banter' was a playful jibing whereby two people are involved and fully enjoying trying to get one up on each other.

What he did was not banter it was bullying.

Chugalug · 14/01/2018 12:51

Soooo glad I'm not on Facebook..

hmmshock · 14/01/2018 12:52

How do those of you who hope he loses his job think he should feed himself and his family and pay rent? Should he become dependent on the state?

Employers do not leave necessary job roles open you know. Hmm

The job will go to some other deserving non arsehole person who is currently receiving benefits.

Though the majority of people receiving benefits are already employed.

BigBaboonBum · 14/01/2018 12:55

He’s an adult man and wayyyyyy old enough to not make stupid inconsiderate comments like that. I’d be so embarrassed to know somebody who did things like that, especially at that age

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/01/2018 12:57

Horrible lad. He's not a lad, though Looney.
He's 20+. He's a fully fledged adult.
He's not a 14 year old Jack the lad.

rwalker · 14/01/2018 13:00

he fat shamed her, he got shame for being a twat, draw a line under it .As for going to his employer ridiculous. So every time one of us does something wrong or inappropriate someone should contact out boss to get our employment terminated .
