As a biological female I have experienced:
A c section
Pre eclampsia (nearly died)
Single motherhood, currently 90% of all single parents are female, the 10% of men are considered progressive and put on pedestals
Sexual assault, a few times and one horrific incident
I have HPV and have had a lot of smears, and 3 lots of my cervix chopped off, all "pre cancerous cells" have another one next month wish me luck
I've been a victim of domestic violence (strangled me until I was unconscious and broke three of my toes) he was charged with criminal damage, like that's unusual? I'm 32
I have had a period every single month since I was 11 years old

My Aibu is this. Am I being fucking unreasonable to think that India willoughby from CBB is taking this piss out of what being a biological female means, because she somehow in her brain thinks she is an actual woman? How? I don't wake up I the morning and think "ooh I feel so womanly, I need lipstick a dress and eye liner"
I wake up and get on with life, regardless if I have a period or not, because that's who I am, not because who I believe I am.
I understand people who can't cope with gender stereotypes, but reducing being a woman to looking pretty and clothing boils my blood

"If - god forbid - something dreadful were to happen to India, so that the only way to identify the body when it was found were to be through DNA testing - what do you think the results would say, Lyra?"

There was an episode of Silent Witness some years back with a storyline covering this issue. The episode is called Body 21.

Rebeccaslicker · 08/01/2018 17:45

Oh really? I've never seen that programme, Helena - will have a google! Thank you.

No worries Rebecca Thanks Beyond Will take a look.

Idontdowindows · 08/01/2018 18:00

I used to be kind and call male trans she, you know, be polite, yadayadayada.

I now absolutely refuse to refer to any male as she or even as transwoman.

Men are not women and they are not a subset of women. The word woman is reserved for adult human females and not for men with laydeefeelz.

BatShite · 08/01/2018 18:33

Check out Andrews response to yet another India 'they don;t see me as a real woman...boo fucking hoo' crap. Thats how most blokes would react, I reckon.

yes Andrew was apologizing just earlier in the film, but seems to be sick of it all by the end.

Huskylover1 · 08/01/2018 18:34

Given that a man's penis is introverted into their body, to construct a "vagina", I don'y think many straight men would want to go there....it would be fucking an inside out penis, with your own penis, surely? I think you'd have to have gay tendencies, to even consider that?

That said, I actually do feel sorry for her a bit. It must be soul destroying, to go through that whole sex change journey, only to get to the other side, and realise that women still view you as male, and that men don't want to sleep with you. It's quite sad.

When she tried to get a straight male to give her some attention (can't recall his name), she seemed shocked that he wouldn't go there. I so wished someone would ask her, if she would consider sleeping with a male who was born female!

Mooncuplanding · 08/01/2018 18:52

Well tonight's episode looks like more of the same "I am a real woman" bollocks followed by a mega flounce

When Courtney was speaking the other day about what sort of men he gets with he said something like "straight identifying men who are curious about a man's body"

I think the closest India is going to get to having a relationship with a man is that, but then it sort of falls down because those men actually want a man's body, not a neo-vagina and silicone breasts. It's like India has backed herself into a very tight lonely corner and I can understand the frustration that her dating pool is so very limited. But this is what MtF trans are not warned about and why the whole thing is awful for everyone involved - they are not real women so people who like women are not going to want trans ( I haven't met a straight man yet who would go with a trans woman and I don't believe it is just entrenched homophobia) and men who are curious about male bodies / gay want a male body.

I could feel sorry for India if I really tried. But I can't be arsed.

Mooncuplanding · 08/01/2018 18:53

ROFL'ing @ trans'ing to be a 50 year old woman and expecting to be found attractive by all men

Yet another example of the absolute lies and delusion that are peddled about the fabulous lives of women

MsGameandWatching · 08/01/2018 19:12

I've just watched tonight's preview. I'm literally bored to tears now. India is emotionally blackmailing the housemates into agreeing that India is a "Real Woman". I don't think India even cares if they mean it, India just wants them to agree that India is a real woman and India is not going to let up until the validation comes. It's actually quite disturbing and I don't expect we will see the full extent of it because India will be out this week OR the housemates will capitulate just for a quiet life. Without either of those things happening I think we would see India lose the plot completely and become attacking and enraged and possibly have some kind of breakdown. India is emotionally abusing the house as a whole and I so hope that they'll all stand their ground without being written off as transphobic bullies.

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/01/2018 19:17

I'm not watching CBB and I don't want to particularly, but I was wondering what the origin of all this debate about who is a "real" woman? Is it something that is being raised by India all the time, or something the other housemates are talking about? Or a topic that keeps being raised by the tasks they're given?

India keeps bringing it up and trying to bully the rest into agreeing. It does not seem to be working too well with the guys.

A few times the conversation evolved from one of the women 'misgendering' though

Whatthefunk · 08/01/2018 19:35

To me she's a woman. If that's how she presents to the world, it's not for me to question. A massive dickhead though

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/01/2018 19:41

She's trying to control other people's thoughts/beliefs which is never going to work. It's like trying to force everyone to say that they believe in her own religion.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/01/2018 19:42

If anyone challenges India, I think it will be Maggie.

No, I think it will be Shane/Courtney. He is the only one that could.

Have to say, every time that India goes off on one, I think it will cause another lot of viewers to realise the emperor has no clothes.

Which can only be a good thing.

So go on India, knock yourself out love.

MsGameandWatching · 08/01/2018 19:46

I would always respect how a person chooses to present. I will pretend for them and use their preferred pronouns because it's the decent and respectful thing to do. I would actually come to perceive them as the gender of their choice when thinking of them or interacting with them, I certainly have in the past. I do not look at trans women and think "but you're a man" I see what they present and I act accordingly. However I will not be bullied into agreeing that I believe they are real women and allow my spaces and the language used to describe my issues as a born woman to be encroached upon or dismantled. Not without a fight.

“Misgendering”: the crime of correctly identifying someone‘s sex.

"Have to say, every time that India goes off on one, I think it will cause another lot of viewers to realise the emperor has no clothes."

Yy. In the olden days it might be written off as NATALT, but that was before the wonder of social media...

Ereshkigal · 08/01/2018 19:53

"I've never watched CBB". "I don't know who India Willoughby is". Amazing that Lyra happened across this thread called "CBB India" which has disturbed her so much, really, isn't it?

HelenaDove · 08/01/2018 19:54

"Yet another example of the absolute lies and delusion that are peddled about the fabulous lives of women"

Im a size 14/16 Would i have a right to get upset and stroppy if a man who prefers his women to be a size 8/10 didnt want to date me and go off in a huff. NO.

a. i wouldnt want to date someone who wasnt that into me.

b. this is the type of thing women have to deal with ALL THE TIME..........not meeting a mans idea of perfection and fuckability. India didnt get the memo of what its actually like for women.

Backingvocals · 08/01/2018 19:54

Good piece by Rachel. She gets it.

HelenaDove · 08/01/2018 19:55
